  1. I use a smartphone when hiding caches, but the phone is connected to the Garmin GLO receiver. It could be better to ask the estimated percentage of players who use only a smartphone GPS receiver. That number is constantly rising.
  2. Geocoins for sale, all unactivated. No fee paypal is the preferred payment method. Price beside each is for the coin, it'll be about $3 more for tracked shipping, so add $3 onto the cost of the first coin you select. Any additional coins do not incur any added shipping charge. 3. Was looking at a post like this. A coin of mine went missing in 2010, I eventually marked it as missing in 2016. Then 2024 it apparently show up at an event in America, several logged a discovered. At first sceptical but one person grabbed and posted a picture, after a few messages they posted it back to me. Finally after about 20 days and Royal Mail charging me £15 for a little VAT but most a handling charge, its back in my possession. They also very kindly included a personalised coin they had made up. So as you say never give up on a missing trackable.
  4. Greetings-- Just upgraded to a GPSmap 67i from a 64st, added a 32gb microSD card, and the first thing I noticed it that when plugged into the Mac, it no longer shows up as a drive (or 2) on my desktop, thus my iCaching software doesn't see it directly for purposes of export. Garmin support told me I needed the Android File Transfer utility see the units directory and transfer files to the GPX directory. That worked, booted up and voila!. Tried to find them again the next day and nothing. Support had me verify the PQs were enabled and to use both AFT to load files to the directory, import them into BaseCamp then Xfer to the 67i. After reinstating BC (not my favorite piece of software), I was able to get the PQ loaded onto the unit. Not exactly a clean way to do so after the iCaching/GPSmap 64st combo I've used for years. Does anyone know a more efficient way to do so? I can run Windows and try GSAK, but would rather not.
  7. Okay... here we go! PS: Logging on STAGING was throwing an error. This is why is I reproduced the issue on LIVE with an archived cache of an inactive owner STEP 1 - There are no drafts STEP 2 - Upload drafts Let's assume that I have a brand new (Garmin) GPSr and I have found one single cache. The geocache_visits.txt file looks like this: GC3GKH8,2024-04-03T11:43Z,Found it,"Draft 1" STEP 3 - Log the cache -> Result: Cache has a smiley on all maps/lists and the draft entry is gone -> No problems so far 👍 STEP 4 - One day later - we found another cache Now, the geocache_visits.txt file looks like this: GC3GKH8,2024-04-03T11:43Z,Found it,"Draft 1" GC3GFWJ,2024-04-04T10:24Z,Found it,"Draft 2" -> Yes, the (Garmin) TXT file contains *all* found caches (up to 1000) PROBLEM 1: After uploading the TXT file, the Drafts section unfortunately contains both (all) caches. This is a real pain because the list is getting longer and longer every day. Until June 2023, the upload process ignored already uploaded drafts. STEP 5 - Deleting the duplicates All I can do now is to delete the duplicate entries one by one and then log the remaining (new) ones. This leads to PROBLEM 2: After deleting the duplicate draft, the smiley is replaced by an exclamation mark (forever): Hope this helps...
  8. Traditionally birthday challenges are finding a cache on its publishing birthday. Few examples from my finds: MNTA has used Project-GC to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did. 01-22 GC2MR32 Hill, not Kent, hidden 2011 found 2016 (age 5) [MNTA](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=MNTA) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC4XAT2/66399 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did. I have found these birthday caches: 1. anniversary: [GC5VXNN](https://coords.info/GC5VXNN) Thrifty business found on 2016-05-20 hidden on 2015-05-20 2. anniversary: [GC58GE2](https://coords.info/GC58GE2) Zorilla 2 found on 2016-07-08 hidden on 2014-07-08 3. anniversary: [GC4RFFT](https://coords.info/GC4RFFT) Challenge of the Quarter Century: Meat found on 2016-10-27 hidden on 2013-10-27 4. anniversary: [GC4QH7T](https://coords.info/GC4QH7T) Powerless Pole found on 2017-10-19 hidden on 2013-10-19 5. anniversary: [GC3Z0Q3](https://coords.info/GC3Z0Q3) Grateful Dead Bonus: Bird Song found on 2017-10-20 hidden on 2012-10-20 6. anniversary: [GC3JMY1](https://coords.info/GC3JMY1) Grimm 16 The Thing With Feathers found on 2018-05-04 hidden on 2012-05-04 7. anniversary: [GC2VMN9](https://coords.info/GC2VMN9) Finding Sasquatch found on 2018-05-05 hidden on 2011-05-05 8. anniversary: [GC282QZ](https://coords.info/GC282QZ) Bus Stop 10 found on 2018-05-05 hidden on 2010-05-05 9. anniversary: [GC1R06X](https://coords.info/GC1R06X) Breathe (In The Air) found on 2018-05-05 hidden on 2009-05-05 10. anniversary: [GC1CWDX](https://coords.info/GC1CWDX) Dr. John Watson found on 2018-06-07 hidden on 2008-06-07 Alternate definition is on your geo birthday. 9. Kind of an old thread and you may have moved on or given up but if you bought City Navigator pre-installed on a micro SD card from Garmin then you can transfer the card from GPS to GPS and it should work. No unlock codes required. Here are a couple of things to look at. Go to the map page on the GPS and click menu. Scroll down and select, "Setup". Are any maps listed? Is the check box under, "Show" checked? Another thing to try is to connect the GPS to a computer with a USB cable. Click the menu button twice and select, "Setup". In the Setup menu select, "Interface". At the top under USB does it say, "Connected"? If it does go down to the bottom and select, "USB Mass Storage". That should open the file manager on your PC and the SD card should show as a USB Drive (#:). In the Garmin folder you should see a map file called, "gmapsupp.img". Anyway that should tell you if there are maps on the SD card and if the GPS can read the card. I always loved my 60CSx, it was one of my favorite units back in the day. I still have it, and would never part with it, but I haven't used it in years.
  10. I'm getting the same error. It was once much less complicated! The sequence I'm seeing is: In any List, attempt to Send To Garmin, and a window pops up that says: "Allow Garmin Express Your browser will ask you to open the application. Make sure to choose the option to launch Garmin Express." This is followed by no browser asking anything. Click OK, and the box closes, and is replaced by "An Error Occurred". At this point, Garmin Express has opened perfectly fine behind all other windows. And it has a box that says "Content Ready to Download". Click continue, and the requested GPX List file is placed onto the Garmin. Do the same with another List, go through that entire process again. It is working, except that there's more manual interactivity required. I don't like the additional weirdness. In your case, maybe you need to update and open Garmin Express and then try it. Or post the exact steps and errors, and your OS and Garmin Express version. Don't want to tell you how to do things, but the above is why I use Pocket Queries instead, including Lists as Pocket Queries. And if I'm "downloading" a List or PQ or a single cache, I'm "Downloading" it as a GPX, I NEVER use "Send To Garmin", because of this exact thing. It's chock full of unpleasant surprises. I'm not excited about fiddling with the bug of the day. I need to load a GPX and go. Just before I saw your post, I saved a couple of GPX files from the web site to my Oregon 750 without issue. I don't see the Garmin Express problems, because I deliberately bypass them.
  11. Maybe you have found yourself in such a situation. I have never found myself in such a situation because I don't search for challenge caches that I don't already qualify for. A few years back, I was with a group of cachers doing a bunch of caches around the Colo River north-west of Sydney, including a trail of challenge caches. There were some I qualified for, some I was close to qualifying and some I was well short of, but they were all in the PQ of the area I'd loaded onto my Garmin the night before and couldn't easily tell which was which while we were walking along the trail, so I just signed the log of each cache we found and left it until I got home to decide which ones got Found logs and which got WNs. Since then, I've qualified for one or two I was close to and added a Found log. There's another challenge cache GC5KEY1 that I'm slowly working towards. It requires 40 finds that are terrain 4 or higher and with the Cliifs/Falling Rocks, Scenic View and Difficult Climb attributes and so far I have 27, so it'll probably be at least some years before I qualify. The cache itself, in fairly remote mountainous country, is terrain 4.5 and has all those attributes so it's not one I'd want to attempt alone, and given I turn 70 later this year, it may well be beyond my physical abilities by the time I do qualify. So if my group of caching friends were to organise a trip out there I'd jump at the chance to join them and at least get my name in the logbook while I'm able to, and if that were to happen I'd probably then make more of an effort to find the remaining 13 caches I need.
  13. BrandiiPrime Origin Story (Long but hopefully entertainingly relatable): Picture this: The year is 2007, the location is Oregon and I just turned 23... someone I knew told me about some kind of game that involved finding hidden treasure and how people ALL around the world are on the good ol’ world wide web uploading GPS coordinates so strangers could go out and find it. I thought to myself... Say no more... So... yes, I was really out there thinking what a great idea… a solo female in the PNW wilderness with my 2005 4cyl Ford Focus, armed with nothing but a pixelated print out from Google Maps yep… you read that right Google Maps lol (I mean I didn’t even get an iPhone till 2008) and I suppose... maybe a sense of adventure. Fast forward to when I upgraded from white knuckle driving, wasted gas and DNF’s to a Garmin Oregon 600— And in 2018, I finally decided to jump on the app. One of the most exciting aspects of my geocaching journey has been witnessing the community evolve. Back in the day, spotting fellow women geocachers my age was rare! But now, it's heartening to see the diverse range of adventurers from all walks of life joining the ranks. Geocaching has been my ticket to discovering some truly incredible locations which I wouldn't have stumbled upon otherwise. My absolute favorite finds are those elusive caches reported over and over DNF with a note from the owner defiantly declaring, "It's still there!" Sure, there have been a few questionable locations along the way (note to self: maybe avoid the abandoned stretches of rural Oregon towns claiming there is a micro on a “free puppies sign” when you’re caching alone… sorta kidding lol -eekk), but hey, every cache has a tale right?! So, if you have read up to this point you know I live in Oregon, allegedly home of (trigger warning for some lol) the first geocache: N 45° 17.460 W 122° 24.800 placed by Dave Ulmer. If you don’t know why I said trigger warning lol or the “lore” surrounding this, I encourage you to use your geo senses read the forums/research and report back who you think the “first” was. Now, let me introduce you to my FEARLESS caching co-piot – my daughter. She's been coming along on my geocaching escapades since she could barely walk (she is now a teenager and still loves going)! As one might imagine Oregon can often be quite remote with lots of critters that go bump in the night ...actually they go bump in the day too – *confession* I may be a bit of a geo scaredy-cat when it comes to snakes, she's definitely the fearless one in our duo. What does 2024 have in store? I am diving headfirst into the world of complex geocache builds. Considering I live in the 3rd largest city in Oregon there are not currently many local hides outside of the classic micros/parking lot or cache and dashes. I am aiming for folks who are city cachers or have accessibility needs to find caches that are just as exciting as the ones we have to travel/hike to. I don’t know what has taken so long to finally integrate myself into the geocaching community but here I am haha! I am so beyond grateful for all the adventures I've experienced over the years, and I can't wait to help create similar memories for new cachers. <3 Brandi
  14. Yes it's a shame but that kind of a hide is no longer allowed. I remember well one of the caches I found in the early days of my geocaching "career" was similar to what you describe. It was a notice on a local notice board about a lost dog, and the logsheet was the back of the notice. I thought it was terrific, but this was hidden in 2010 when the rules were different. Probably the examples that you give were also published some time ago.
  15. Those are Drafts. Go here, edit each Draft one at a time however you like, be sure to select "Found It" as the log type, and submit it. If you uploaded the geocaching_visits.txt file from the Garmin to the Geocaching.com web site, the logs are Drafts that show as exclamation points (!), not automatic Smilie icons. But there are other ways to do online logs. If you submitted the logs some other way, you may need to be more specific about the steps that caused the exclamation point icons. And give an example of a cache that is showing one. If you mean that you logged a find, and next uploaded a Note Draft which is overriding the Smilie icon (even after deleting the Note), I caused that to happen while testing this issue. I made a persistent (!) map icon instead of the previous Smilie icon. But I didn't do it the way you described, so I'm not sure it's the same thing.
  16. If I download notes from my Garmin 66st and log them, a ! shows on the map instead of a smiley. Is there a way to correct this?
  18. Kunarion, Thanks for the reply. Your answer sorted it! I had just placed the file in the Garmin folder and not in the GPX sub folder.
  19. You didn't say what folder you placed them on the Etrex. You must place the GPX files into the folder Garmin/GPX.
  20. Where do I find the 'Gear Icon'? I am not using an app, I am using my Garmin Oregon 750t, and then uploading the drafts to log the caches on the website. When uploading the drafts from the GPS, and logging the finds, the system used to remember which caches I had already logged, so when I uploaded new ones another day, the old ones were not included. Now, the previously logged caches come back every time.
  21. Thank you for the reply. I am curious though, why not found by will not help. I seriously was asking how does an owner find his own cache? No, I am not a GSAK or Cachly user. I use the geocaching.com on a laptop, app, and a GPSr, Garmin Colorado 400.
  22. I have loaded maps for several other places in South America without a problem, but Santiago just won't load a map on either of the two sites mentioned here. My guess, both sites use the same map source and there isn't one for Santiago. I tried several different map styles, all with the same result. Only the largest of the highways are shown, with no roads in between. Not sure if these came with the map, or are the original very basic map in the Garmin.
  23. I've used https://garmin.opentopomap.org/ after someone suggested it in the forums a few years back.
  24. I had already found that. I know the one in Wuppertal closed, but last time I was directed to another site which used the same maps. That's what I want. I have changed computers due to a fault with the old one, and so no longer have that address. I have been searching for that, but can't find it. Anyone have that address please? I thought it was open street maps, but could be wrong. I have searched open street map, but can't find the map I want. On that map you click on and highlight sections of the map you want. I might not have mobile coverage where I am going and need to add maps to my Garmin. Added: I think I found map. Will see.
  25. Where do I download maps for Garmin? Anyone have the link?
