Hi, I'm Premium Member and today was the first time that I got an automatic advertising popup (BMW). I understand that you have to make money to keep the servers running and the people paid. That's why I'm a premium member. I'm also willing to accept the banners on the side, but this automatic popup really is getting on my nerves. I open my manage lists site and this BMW-Ad launches a popup window that puts itself in front of my Groundspeak content. Please make the popups at least for PMs go - you already got paid for the use of the site. Thank you Atti

Haven't heard back yet (it was only 1.5hr ago) but when I tried searching on Google found this thread and thought I'd give it a shot. BMW Jedi - thanks for catching the typo. I fixed my post - DeLorme very recently said they plan to fix Topo THIS year and reiterated they are abandoning Cache Register. As reported here http://forum.delorme.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=77368&p=263919#p263865 for one example.

I am with BMW Jedi on this one. I manage a trail map project and I can tell you Google Maps/Earth should not be considered an accurate way to place a cache or confirm coordinates. I have seen it out by 100M in places and there really is no substitute for taking actual coordinates at the hide location. Remember coords that are out by 100M could lead cache seekers to a place they are not welcome like a neighbouring property. This does not promote good will for our game. Use your iPhone's GPS as mentioned above or another discreet GPS unit and disregard the use Google/Bing/Mapquest methods

I'm with BMW Jedi as I will need to load the FL topo to my SD card in preparation for my trip to Orlando in June.

Hi Splashy, I have a Garmin 450 (Oregon) as mentioned and the battery compartment is orange so I dabbed paint for a quick reference. If the compartment is black on yours, just a dab of red on one end would do if you want a quick reference for the positive end. ======================== Hi BMW JEDI, To be quite honest, I did not know about the lock, I just put the card in and slid the cover forward, but still it would open when I sometimes took the batteries out. The small piece of tape mentioned does the trick and it is still easy to remove/replace the card and the tape is re-usable. Best regards, Wayne Miller 4evrCking

Something is wrong. The unit should be very accurate, as accurate as anything made. BMW Jedi is completely wrong. If anything, they are better at accuracy than an Oregon. First please check that the firmware is up to date. Then learn how to use it. The Colorados still have the nicest user interface, IMO, despite the software being a bit older.

If anyone has experience with birdseye satellite, I would appreciate comments on it (not worried about getting it right away, but would still like to hear personal reviews on it).

This is from the guy who has never owned a kayak, and has mostly borrowed or rented canoes for 45 years? My Coleman Ram-X 15 was pretty advanced when I bought it in 1995, with its bright orange poly hull. It sure beat those aluminum Grummans I had always previously used for the 20 years before that. I sold it around 2005 to another cacher, and have heard a story or 2 of it being beaten on by others who borrowed it. But it really does not compare to any kayak. Kayaks really are so simple there is no learning curve, unless you are on whitewater rapids. Just get in and go. The newer advanced canoes look pretty awesome, but in the end it's still like comparing SUVs to cars. Yes, that 2012 BMW X-5 will leave the 1982 LTD in the dust, but overall most cars are more nimble and handle better than most SUVs. I have never had any problems getting out of my kayaks quickly, never felt uncomfortable, am able to keep a small cooler in them, as well as accessing the rear storage area without getting out. They are without a doubt much easier to control. Although on most camping trips, I admit I would rather have a canoe. I was also in Maine this past September and recall mostly seeing kayaks. It looks like I'll have to return next summer to take a closer look.

Any rationale for the 62S from your side? I've always been a fan of the quad-helix antenna.....I have 4 different models using the quad and several without. I find the button layout on the 62 series ( same as the 60,76)much better than the Etrex joystick, etc. The firmware for the 62 series is more mature ( my unit works perfectly )....read this forum re Etrex firmware. The 62 has a GREAT 3-axis pointer{ compass} ( will always point at the cache even if you're not moving)......I've read several on this forum that won't even use this feature on the Etrex 30 it performs so poorly. IMO the Etrex wasn't made to compete with the 62 but to offer a less costly alternative...like trying to compare a BMW 700 series with the 300 series. That's a great insight; thanks! The compass and greater precision is important to me and the most important reason I am upgrading from the Legend HCx. I got lost yesterday for a while because without compass it's so hard to find your way back to a trail. I kept on walking back and forth and then made a detour over a golf course before finding a trailhead bringing me back to the trail...

Hallo zusammen... Wir (Mieze81, KraxelMaxel, Thümmi, Bmw-maxe und ich) haben eine "Sagen-Cache-Serie" im Ost-Erzgebirge (Derzeit 24 aktive Caches). Die Idee wurde durch Mieze geboren und durch uns beide maßgeblich vorangetrieben... Mittler Weile veranstalten wir halbjährlich ein Event. Aus den dort entstanden Bekanntschaften bilden sich nette Cachergruppen, gerade für Nachtcaches oder aufwändigere Multis, LPs etc. Seit kurzen habe ich eine Seite unter dem Motto Cachen im Ost-Erzgebirge online gestellt. Sie ist im Aufbau und wird noch und nach erweitert... Ursprünglich war es eine Übersicht all unserer Sagencaches. Vor kurzen wurde die Seite um eine Bestenliste und eine FTF-Jägerliste erweitert... Many people around here use a magellan and love them as well as delorme units. I would not definitely choose garmin over any other brand. Availability of maps is only one consideration. I would chose a unit based on the features that I needed and wanted and also the price. My very first unit was an entry level magellan. Then I researched and got a lowrance h20c which I loved. I now have a montana only because I really lucked out and found a great deal on it. Speaking of Lowrance, I purchased their $600 flagship model (Lowrance Endura Sierra) just so I could experience another brand... Having done so I am very happy to stick with Garmin units. Anyone can read through these forums and see which brands have the most issues, and which brand has the best user and factory support. Garmin is constantly refining and introducing new features for all of their GPSr units, while other brands only offer updates and fixes once a year, if that often. Anyone can run down to their local sporting goods store (if they have one) and handle the latest offerings from Garmin, Lowrance, Magellan, etc... and decide for themselves which units look and feel the most refined and finished. Much like a Prius or a BMW will both get you from point 'A' to point 'B', there are some users who find they do not require a Garmin to meet their needs, but they certainly do enjoy them more.

Howzit BMW GS geocachers. This years BMW eco challenge is happening from 18 to 21 October in Clocolan. Are there any GS riders who would like to join me on the trip. Do a few caches on the way down, a few during the event and a few back to JHB? Are there any other GS riders going from the other provinces?

I take it from this comment, you ride a cruiser or similar, 'cause loose dirt is hella fun on a dirt bike! But I'd also like to know if its a dirt road, so I can choose which bike I use, like yo usay, loose dirt is not so fun on an expensive Harley, and it means you're gonna spend hours cleaning it later. That's what I was thinking. I got my first motorcycle when I was about 10 years old and spent a *lot* of time riding in loose dirt and mud before I got a drivers license and could ride one on the streets. If I still owned a motorcycle I'd be more interested in having one for geocaching on loose dirt than one for geocaching using city streets. Absolutely! I ride BMW and Harley Davidson to caches.

Hi, Knochen haben wir zwar noch nicht gefunden, einen Polizeieinsatz ausgelöst jedoch schon. Suchten nachts in der Nähe eines stillgelegten Radarpostens der Bundeswehr nach einem Tradi, als ich im Gebüsch etwas Blitzen sah. Jedoch war es nicht der Cache, sondern 4 Sätze nagelneue Alufelgen, die meisten von BMW, etwa 17-18 Zöller, bestimmt nicht billig. Es hatte an dem Abend geregnet. Einige der Felgen waren noch in Kartons verpackt, diese waren jedoch nicht nass. Das ließ die Vermutung aufkommen, dass das alles noch nicht lange hier rum lag. Auch war es provisorisch mit abgerissenen Ästen abgedeckt. Eindeutig ein Zwischenlager eines nächtlichen Diebstahls. Nun gut, sind wieder etwa einen Kilometer zurück zur nächsten Ortschaft gefahren und haben dann die Polizei informiert. Die haben uns getroffen, eine weitere Streife hat die umliegenden Autohäuser nach Einbruchspuren inspiziert. Dann gemeinsam wieder zum Fundort. Der zusätzlich angeforderte Polizeibus wurde schlussendlich bis unters Dach vollgeladen mit den Felgen. Ein paar Tage später erfuhren wir aus der Zeitung, dass ein paar Ortschaften weiter bei einer Tuning-Firma eingebrochen worden war und diese Felgen wohl dort gestohlen wurden. Den Cache selbst haben wir in dieser Nacht nicht mehr gefunden... (wobei uns die Polizisten bei der Suche ja auch hätten helfen können, wenn sie schon mal da warn

There are tens of thousands of companies that are 10 to 100 times larger than GS that operate less than $200k above or below breakeven, and even for them, a delta of $200,000 would be a complete game changer. This is what the posting of the Louis CK video was all about. GS gives the vast majority of its users the vast majority of their services for free, and when they need to make all their salaries and pay all their bills from the tiny sliver that is left to make any money from, they are villainized. $200k isn't optimistic, its more like the idiot price for someone that walks into a new car dealership and pays whats on the sticker (and if you do a little research, you will find that this is the top price for 2 million daily hits). $50k is what they will get if they have more than 10 minutes of negotiating experience. But, lets play with $200k, for a company that has revenues of approximately $4 million (and yes, this is gs's approximate revenue, for some quick math, 125k users, figure 1/2 pay annually at $30, and 1/2 pay quarterly at $40), its a 5% hit. For a company that has no significant expense in the product that they sell (they aren't out placing the caches, they don't own the caches, they very simply have a listing site, nothing more), there is definitely room in the budget for a 5% variance. This comes to less than $2 annually for each premium member and still giving it to free members. More realistic, they would pay less than $50k, which would only be a 1.25% hit to the budget. ANY company that operates that tight won't be in business for long. This comes to less than 50 cents annually for each premium member.

I was using a BMW Z3 and Saab 97X, but about a month ago picked up a Jeep Wrangler Sport, which is fantastic for the forest service roads in my area.
