  1. We're still struggling here, both unemployed, and needing money so we won't lose the car! Please help as much as you are able! Make me an offer I can't refuse on the coins listed below. I have pictures of about half of the coins, and can get pictures of others if needed. However, if you Google the coin names listed below, you should be able to find pictures of most of the coins. $3.00 for shipping, plus 50 cents each additional coin, for Domestic (US) shipping. International shipping will be a little more, depending on how many coins you purchase. Please send an email to mooniesgeocoins @ gmail . com (NOT my Geocaching profile!). Payment will be accepted through PayPal. Activated geocoins will of course be adopted over once cleared payment has been received! I will consider offers for bulk purchasing, and offering discounts on the shipping costs, maybe even FREE shipping! I would LOVE to sell the whole list in one go! I have bills piling up, and still no job in sight for either me nor my husband. We're on the verge of losing the car, car insurance (already lapsed), storage unit with everything we own, and cell phones. You can't get a job around here without a phone and a car! The following Activated Coins are in addition to the ones listed in my last post... Sets: (Would rather they go together, and a couple of these "sets" MUST go together, such as the Puzzle coins and Caching Pills.) 12 Days of Caching (Blue) 12 Days of Caching (Green) 12 Days of Caching (Orange) 12 Days of Caching (Yellow) Caching Pills (3) V2 RE Copper (Caching Pills come with the Bottle!) 2. Which brings me to my story about how stats can affect Favorite points. Someone's stats goal affects an owner's goal. My goal as an owner is to provide a good geocaching experience. The Favorite Point count helps advertise my cache as one that should hopefully provide the majority of cachers with an all-round enjoyable experience. I was batting about 50% FP rate after about 40 finds on my cache. Then along comes a group of 50 people on a special holiday, looking to find as many non-trads as possible that special day to qualify for a number of different challenge caches including Fizzy and 10-10-10 and to break their previous non-trad record. Since maybe only 4 people actually saw the cache, the cache got only 2 FPs that day. Dropped the % to 20%. I get the kick to the gut from losing FPs - in my case losing a big percentage. I see FPs as foremost a community tool, a way to advertise a cache to others that they too might enjoy finding the cache. I don't like to see FPs used as a way to bolster stats. I don't trust FP numbers. A CO with a lot of FPs could mean a popular event-going/event-hosting CO who likes to place lots of caches (100s, maybe 1000s). Often they hide too many to maintain and leave it to reviewers to archive as they continue to hide more caches and get more FP points. Tie a bison to a barbie doll or plastic butterfly and watch the FPs flow in. Do something that is against the guidelines and watch the FPs flow in because the cache is "unique". Get a lot of FPs in the first year, by year 3 it's a falling-apart mess, it still looks like it's a great cache and a great owner because it has double digit FPs.
  3. I have just take permission to use the photo and I a mso happy!!! Let's see now.... Part A: 1) Monarch Butterfly 2) Coho Salmon 3) Hamback Whale (or gray whale... but I think hamback has larger fins like the ones showing in the whale figure on the coin) 4) Canada Geese 5) Chelonia Mysas.... also known as Green sea turtle 6) Arctic Tern 7) North american Caribou... (official name: ragifer tarandus) or reindeer I think... Plan B: even if Monarch butterfly was already posted, I will talk about an other butterfly...the Panaxia Quadripunctaria (Poda) also known as... butterfly of Rhodes! Special thanks to the site Hotelsline.gr where I took permision to post the photo! Panaxia Quadripunctaria (Roda) in the older times was called Callimorpha hera (Linnaeus) or Callimorpha quadripunctaria (Poda). in the last years some are calling it Euplagia quadripunctaria, but we do not know who actually named them like that! These butterflies are very common in whole europe except the northern countries whose climate is cooler or frozen! You can also see them in Western Asia, in africa and in the meditteranean countries! they migrates in the summer season because their real living place is not good for them during summer! It doesn't have much water or shadows and it is too hot! so they migrate in other places forthe summer and then in the automn they are returning to their first area to make eggs etc! Sometimes the migrate is big and sometimes it is not! it depends of the climate changes and if they will find a nice place to stay! they are coming here every year, in a small valley (not actually a valley but...) here in rhodes that took its name from them! we call it butterfly valley! IT is a nice shadow place with lots of trees, a stream (we call it pelekanos river..) and lots of humidity! that's a paradise for these butterflies and they are coming here every year! an other gathering are is in Paros but most of them are coming here! there are also smaller numbers in other places... It is said that a german scientst, Peter Elgen caught about 100 of them, he marked them and let them free and they went back to Petaloudes valley! Oh... they do not live in area higher than 1500 metres! they wings when they are open are about 6cm! these butterflies as you see in the photo have colour and when their wings are closed they have a camo colour... that makes it difficult to see them when they are on the trunk of the trees!! why I am mentioning the colour?? Because these are night butterflies!!! Most of night butterflies do not have colours!!! they are flying during the night.... so you will not see them flying all together etc! In the day they are on the tree trunks and they are not moving at all! you may see a trunk full of them!!!! this is dissapointing for the visitors of the valley who actually expect to see them flying etc! butterflies are very sensitive! even the visitors who visits the valley is not good for them... and in older years when people didn't know... they used whistles to make the butterflies fly away and see them! That was extremely bad! butterflies were scared and they were dying or leaving the area for ever! Now they do not do that anymore and they have signs saying that this is not allowed! Unfortunatelly the change of the climate is not helping them a lot.. and the people who work there are trying to help them.... water levels are way down in the stream, trees are not like the old times and more sun is coming in... destroying the butterfly paradise! hmm... I probably forgot to tell you... you can see them here in rhodes from June until the end of September when they are going back to their living areas... when they not flying, they have their wings on the sides or back... like all night butterflies! Both male and female have the same size and you can only recognize the males from their "hairy" belly edge they have! females do not have that! When they get together... the male dies after it... and the female dies after she give birth of 150 -200 eggs! Ok.... now a small joke question... in migrate animals... can we post about Party animals who are migrating from party to party or bar to bar (or club to club) and have fun, dances and lots of alcohol???
  4. While not a butterfly 'expert', this does resemble (in part) the Eastern Tailed Blue Butterfly. It does not, however, have the tail shaped projection from the hind wing. As in many species of 'flying' winged things in nature, the brighter blue is the male of the species while the female sports more browns and greys in wing coloring. Only know a little about these since they exist in the Eastern area of North America and reportedly in ALL counties in Ohio, where I was born. I know a bit more about buckeyes than butterflies ... ... need to know more ... Google 'Easter Tailed Blue Butterfly' images. This butterfly is probably a morphed artist inspired version of the standard butterfly. They do come in just about every color, but the wing patterns of many are strikingly similar.
  5. Hi All! I’ve been geocaching since 2010 (superslothsonya), and earlier on was definitely into buying/collecting geocoins – but less so these days. Looking at downsizing my coin collection – have some older unactivated coins potentially to sell (see list and pictures below) – thought I would post here to gauge levels of interest and possibly work something out from there! Located in Australia, so keep in mind international postage can be somewhat expensive (around ~$25aud for small, tracked package to USA/europe), otherwise within Australia is about $9aud. Happy to provide additional photos by request. 6. That's pretty smart! Kind of like the butterfly effect, or the old phrase "what goes around comes around" EDIT: I misread, I thought you meant somebody would see a waymark posted, and think "hey I know something that would fit in that category" and go make a waymark for that. But what you originally meant is also a really cool idea
  7. That was true for me too for awhile, but I've since been back to Germany to Hamburg and Berlin and found caches there. My first "find" in Switzerland was also a webcam cache at Zurich airport. There's a nice traditional cache at Changi airport in Singapore in a Butterfly garden. I forgot about the one in Sacramento airport when I was there a couple of months ago.
  8. I got my package yesterday from MoonCat & KDT. Thank you so much!! Everything was perfect, even the coins . I got all kinds of butterfly stuff. Butterfly stickers, patch, pendant, clip on, butterfly notepad and butterfly notecards, butterfly gummies and a nice card. The coins I got was a Iridescent Dreams Geocoin and a Suncatcher geocoin. I loved everything. Thank you so much MoonCat & KDT!!! Pictures are below. MoonCat, I believe it was you that I had in a mission before and I told you about the cotton we grow around here. Well, the cotton is in and I will send you some of it like I told you I would. Is your address still the same? Hope you are enjoying y'alls honeymoon and the married life. Best Wishes to you both! Had to edit and delete the close up of the coin since I had the code # showing...ooops!!
  9. The smallest I've found are 1.2 mL "Cryogenic Vials", and these that aren't threaded, where the manufacturer doesn't mention the capacity nor what they're for. But they also come in black. The butterfly kind seems almost custom crafted from longer tubes. The two-tone plastic has me wondering (or are these painted?).
  10. I'm pretty sure I saw centrifuge tubes used in the wild well before I saw them for sale on Groundspeak's site. The ones I'm curious about are the base containers for the butterfly camouflaged example on the right. I don't think I've seen them in the wild, but I have no idea what those containers would be used for, other than gluing some sort of camouflage to them and using them as a geocache. And Groundspeak offers a few options that all use the same base container.
  11. There have been previous threads on this topic. I think I then mentioned there is a traditional in the Butterfly Garden, Changi Airport, Singapore. terminal 3 IIRC.
  12. Oh man... if a butterfly flaps its wings...! So many things in life have happened and changed because of this hobby. SO many things.

  17. I'm finding this thread on Letterbox Hybrid caches most interesting! Up until I started geocaching 2 years and a few months ago, I had never heard of "letterboxing". The first couple of that cache type that I found were more like puzzles, or multis, except there was a stamp in the container, and I was supposed to use it for ... ? I wasn't sure what it was all about, but claiming the find gave me another smilie, and following the clues was interesting too. Eventually we figured out what it was all about. We had a 1" x 1" rubber stamp with our initials intertwined that we had gotten years ago, and I added that and an ink pad to my geo-bag. When we come across a LBH cache, we stamp the book with our stamp. We don't have one to stamp with the cache's stamp, but we aren't avid letterboxers either, so I hope it's ok to just leave our stamp impression in the logbook and claim the find on geocaching.com Some of the stamps I've seen in the hybrid caches are nothing more than a cheapy self inking kid's stamp, the 1/2" round with a butterfly or heart or something. Others have been more elaborate and creative. I carry our stamp but I haven't been motivated enough to carry an additional book to collect others' stamps when/if I come across them.
  18. Hi all! Anyone have a story about losing someone else's trackable that you picked up out of a cache? What did you do? Here's my "Almost lost it" story: Yesterday I found a nearby cache listing that had a geo coin placed in it a few days earlier. I really wanted to find it and take the coin because we are new to this hobby and my grandson and me have never seen a "real" geocoin before. He has taken various poker chip type of disks out of caches and calls them his "geocoins", but that is the extent. Anyway, I knew this geocoin in the cache probably wouldn't stay there till the weekend without someone else picking it up, so I decided to go after it myself before work and show it to my gs this weekend, if I can get him. My Swedish meatballs took a little longer than planned to finish up and this cache wasn't really a P&G, so I was cutting it close time-wise and would have to fly straight to work from cache site. Reading logs, one finder indicated getting feet wet, so I brought dry socks and my work shoes. I loaded up work and geocache stuff and headed out. A lovely area full of muggles, I parked, started walking path, waited for a break in muggles and slipped into tree cover. Gps was bouncing a bit and the hiding places were endless. Got my feet totally wet and still hadnt found cache and was running out of time. Finally the sky opened, the angels sang, and there it was. I pulled cache to ground, got on my knees and opened it up. Wished my grandson was with me cuz there was some cool swag inside. Anywho, that wasn't my purpose at this cache. I had a TB to unload and a geocoin to find! A thing of beauty she was, this geocoin! My hands were literally shaking as I pulled her out of the ziploc baggie and removed her from her protective coin sleeve. I'm not making this up, I felt the same joy I felt the first time I found the travel bug I was now dropping off. Then, as if I wasn't in geo heaven enough, I spot a small swag item in the cache. It was a small plastic butterfly that looks uncannily like the butterfly geocoin in my hand. Same colors and all. (I took a photo of them side by side.. it's amazing) I hadn't brought swag to trade but had to have this plastic toy anyway. I held the plastic toy and geocoin both in my hands, marveling at them. Then reality bit me you know where, and I realized I am so outta time here! I had to get moving. I rummaged thru cache looking for pen and only came up with an unsharpened pencil. Darn, I left my pen in car and now I couldn''t even sign log book! I hastily put my baggie with TB in cache. I put geocoin baggie that also contained some Chicagogeocacher.com cards into my pocket, patting it lovingly. Closed and replaced cache and headed out. Checked the time. I could make it! I had just enough time to get back to my car, change my shoes and socks, and fly to work! The Universe was on my side, after all!! Got to vehicle, changed shoes, put key in ignition, pulled out geocoin baggie for one quick, loving peek, and OMG....she's gone! What the ****? Looked around seat, floor, ground. Geocoin is nowhere. I had to make a decision. Retrace my steps and find geocoin and be late for work, or fly to work now and sort this out later. Don't judge me, I opted to preserve my job. I just made it to work in the nick of time. Clocked in. Told my supervisor, I needed to clock out for lunch now, take an extended lunch, because I had lost something at the park and had to find it before it got dark. He gave me the green light without questioning it. (whew) I raced back to GZ. There, lying on the ground 2 feet away from cache site, was Isabelle the geocoin, and Isabelle the clone, the plastic butterfly. I was so relieved to find them unscathed, I forgot to open up the cache and sign log book with the pen I had put in my pocket. I hightailed it back to the car, clutching my treasures. What would I have done had I never found Isabelle the geocoin again? I had planned to email the person who had dropped coin in cache, get tracking info from that person, then contact coin owner and beg for forgiveness. I was going to offer to buy them a new coin as a way to settle out of court. Thank goodness this had a happy ending. I don't know if there is a moral to this story besides, don't go geocaching when you're pushed for time. Any one else have a story? I'd like to know I'm not the only one, goofballs love the company of other goofballs! Happy Caching!

Here's a shot of one of the coins I got to move: Note to mods: I'm not putting those up to promote the Morpho Butterfly geocoins -- I'm just trying to provide some context for the Butterfly 2010's scheme in the history of hinged butterfly geocoins. : )

  24. Hi Everyone! Sadly I haven't been able do to much caching in the last year. I am finishing up graduate school and my family has decided to move overseas (nothing official yet but may be moving to Japan). As we have begun the process of deciding what will come with us and what won't....it's time to move my geocoin collection along. I'd like to offer them up to those of you who have collections and are active here instead of selling them on eBay. I know that most/all of these coins are sold out and some are quite rare. I do not know the value of many of these coins in the current market but I will entertain any reasonable offers. I have attempted to sort the coins by manufacturer and list the metal finish. I can supply photos of coins that you are interested in prior to purchase. Activated coins will be transferred through the adoption feature. Additionally, if one of these is a personal coin in this list that you would rather have released into the wild, gifted to someone, or returned to you please let me know. Thanks for looking! TERMS:BEST OFFER BY January 1, 2012. All offers and communication will be handled via email. Please specify the coin or coins you are interested in and your offer price for each coin. Please include your email or geocaching name where you would like to be contacted at. You will be notified if your offer has been rejected or accepted and what the status of your offer is throughout the process. Final notifications of best offer will occur no later than January 2, 2012. Buyers will pay actual shipping based on weight, destination, and service selected. Items listed in Blue have offers recorded by at least one party. Items listed in Red have been sold.
