  1. Back to the original question. (Too much time on my hands.) As of this afternoon: Alamogul – 183,693 finds From profile page: About 816 find logs (traditionals) in the last 80 days (since 4/30/18) (OK, I don’t have that much time on my hands.) So that’s a rate of 10.2 finds/day. 200,000 – 183,693 = 16,307 finds to reach 200,000 16,307/10.2 = 1,599 days mondou2 – 173,814 finds From profile page: About 781 finds in last 24 days (since 6/17/18) So that’s a rate of 32.5 finds/day 200,000 – 173,814 = 26,186 finds to reach 200,000 26,186/32.5 = 806 days So mondou2 will pass Alamogul before Alamogul reaches 200,000. QED No need to thank me. Past performance does not guarantee future earnings. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear. Your mileage may vary. If you have an FTF for more than four hours, seek medical attention.
  2. So it seems like I'm incapable of operating this particular piece of technology. I have a .gpx file that I've tried to install using the garmin software, dragging it onto the memory card, and the waypoints show up, but they don't show up in the geocaching button. What am I doing wrong?!
  3. I've recently purchased an Oregon 200 ($279 w/ TOPO Canada) and have found that it isn't a whole lot better than the Blackberry 8330 w/ Geocache Navigator that I was using previously. I'm still frustrated with inconsistent GZ readings, hopping around showing 0 metres then bouncing around to 6 or 8 metres (that's 20 to 25 feet). I see the REI deal with the Oregon 450 ($249 US) and I'm wondering if I should return the 200 and pick up the 450. Will the electronic compass make a significant difference when I get in close? What to do, what to do...? Thanks
  4. I have not yet found a way to manually enter a set of coordinates into the Oregon 200. Yesterday we were cacheing and it was a progressive cache. Got the first one, based on the coordinates downloaded, but couldn't figure out how to put the next cache coordinates in. Any help or advise is appreciated.
  5. So after becoming frustrated with my Blackberry 8330 (with Geocache Navigator) due to accuracy issues, I finally went ahead and took advantage of what seems like a pretty good deal at Costco (Oregon 200 with TOPO Canada maps for $279). I knew I'd have to do a bit of a sales job on my wife (she thinks GPS's are about $100) but she'd been caching with us and experienced the frustration of compass fluctuation so aside from her initial sticker shock, it went pretty well. So today she says why don't you take that one back (it's still in the box) and get a more expensive one (not a misprint), since that one is just for geocaching. Why don't you get one that we can use in the car as well, and does all that "turn right here" and calculates your arrival time, etc. So my question is: Is there a GPS that does double duty, as in works as a car navigation GPS and a decent paperless geocaching GPS? Or is there some app or add-on that I can use with the Oregon 200 that will serve the purpose(s). Please let me know your opinions on this matter. Thanks!!!
  6. I am selling my beloved Garmin GPSmap 60 CSX for $200 USD. The gps has had a screen cover on it since new, ( Just removed it, and the screen is perfect).. The gps includes Mapsource Topo software, and city navigator north america dvd. I will pay for shipping anywhere in Continental US. Feel free to call / Text Robert - 970 480 7253 ( Colorado, USA)
  7. By right-clicking a cache on the new Search-Map and then "Download GPX" results in an error-page. Result: https://www.geocaching.com/error/404.aspx?statusCode=200&referrer=/play/map If you open the cache via left-clicking, it works in the sidebar as expected.
  8. Help required please. I'm having difficulty entering co-ords for a bonus cache. The only way it seems possible is to drag to a point and save it as a waypoint. This is proving very frustrating as even with the maximum scale getting N and W settings accurate is beyond me. Isn't there a way just to put the co-ords straight in? Would be very grateful for help. Thankyou. Gareth23
  9. There is a tool on project-gc.com which lists the sums of hidden caches per country. https://project-gc.com/Challenges//22565 There are 12 entries on that list which have no hidden caches: # Country nr caches Per 100 000 Population Per km2 Area km2 Population Density 238 Netherlands Antilles 0 0.000 172261 0.000 999 172.433 239 Bouvet Island 0 -nan 0 0.000 49 0.000 240 North Korea 0 0.000 24213510 0.000 120538 200.879 241 Saba 0 0.000 1911 0.000 13 147.000 242 Heard Island and McDonald Islands 0 -nan 0 0.000 412 0.000 243 Comoros 0 0.000 806153 0.000 2235 360.695 244 St Eustatius 0 0.000 3543 0.000 32 110.719 245 Nauru 0 0.000 10084 0.000 21 480.190 246 Swaziland 0 0.000 1132657 0.000 17364 65.230 247 Equatorial Guinea 0 0.000 1222442 0.000 28051 43.579 248 St. Martin 0 0.000 33609 0.000 54 622.389 249 Bonaire 0 0.000 17408 0.000 294 59.211
  10. I have been geocaching for half an year now, and am interested in a dedicated GPS for my birthday. I am currently using an iPhone 3G , and would like to get something within by budget. The unit does have to be somewhat rugged and hopefully waterproof, but does not need to have a touchscreen. A colour screen does help but is not mandatory, and it has to be powered by AA batteries, as rechargeables don't work for my long hikes. Any suggestions? My friend is using the Magellan eXplorist 310, and it looks tempting.
  11. I have for sale a Garmin Oregon 200 touchscreen handheld GPS that is loaded with North America City Navigator 2011.10 and 2008 100k TOPO maps for $200OBO. It has a 8GB Micro SD card in it that the maps are loaded on (card can be put in any Garmin that has a SD slot to update that units maps). The unit is used and has a few scuffs and scrapes on the housing but the screen is in excellent condition and the unit works great. It comes with the original box and all paperwork, carabiner clip, vehicle vent mount for vehicle navigation, and the sync cable. The unit with maps and accessories cost me over $500 new when purchased less than a year ago. I only used the unit to Geocache and the only reason I am selling it is I got a newer upgraded unit over the holidays.
  12. FS: Garmin Oregon 200 barely used. Has factory maps as well as USA Road maps for on road navigation, installed on the Micro SD card. Asking $175.00 Call or Text 317.989.6667. I am in Franklin Indiana Listed on Craigslist also. You can see images also on my facebook page at Garmin Oregon 200 Pics Jamie
  13. Cav Scout was banned, I was looking forward to doing his Earthcache when I went down to Washington DC. I noticed it was archived by Brad W. Looking at his account, every single one of his caches were archived. Why did this happen? Why was he banned? And why did so many caches that are still out there and still exist get archived. I can understand the 200 earthcaches he owned, you can't answer the questions if you can't E-mail. But, why archive the physical caches? What happened that I am missing? This happened recently they were archived on December 5th.
  14. its less than 2 months old and wont turn on.(well stay on) it goes through the motions and just as the home page would turn on it shuts off. Its acting the same way as it would when the batteries are dead. it also will not connect to the computer with usb, any ideas??
  15. I am really new to geocaching but my wife found it and now we are hooked. We started with an old Magellan Blazer12 then I got a Garmin eTrex Legend from work to use for a bit. Needless to say, the eTrex blows the Magellan out of the water. Now I am looking for something to go paperless with and auto load my caches. I don't want to spend anymore than $200 for a unit. I have found numerous refurbished Garmin units with 1-yr manufacture warranties on ebay. The two that I am focused on is the Colorado 300 or 400i (I know, the "i" stands for Inland waterways but I am going to load in better maps) and the Oregon 200. I am having a real hard time deciding between the two and I know both units are really good. The big difference is the Colorado has the wheel instead of the touch screen and the Oregon has the newer satellite "hotfix" feature. I am looking for some input from someone that actually uses one of these units for geocaching. If someone has owned and used both units, that would be even better. I would greatly appreciate any input from members of this forum. Thanks, Chris562 and Tawana730
  16. What are some of the best GPSr under $250?
  17. HI I have been using iphone until now, but just excitedly received my Garim oregon 200 this week. Well I have had a lot of trouble downloading PQ into it. (and am seriously loving the ease of the iphone and wondering why I bothered to buy a GPS!) Please help me to overcome my problem. I have spent the last few days searching forums/garmin for answers, GSAK is recommended, but that seems to be for windows. I use Mac and have garmin oregon 200. PLease keep any answers relatively easy as I am learning as I go and not very technically minded. Thanks. I have manages to download caches one by one from website directly to it, but obviously that is not optimal I can download PQ OK. They say to "unzip it" using a winzip or something, but that seems to be just for windows ?. I can not find anything similar for a mac. I can put the file on the desktop and open it and see 2 separate files, caches and waypoints. When I connect my GPS and drag those files to it it says "memory full" even though the GOS has no or just a few caches on it, I also installed maccache . I somehow put the PQ in there on a "cache list" ( but now I can't remember how!) anyway, then I try to press the "to GPS " but a message comes back "gpsbabel quit unexpectantly" I did not even realize I had this gpsbabel. But I googled it, and "installed " or reinstalled it as case may be, restarted mac and same message happens. Thank you very much if you have read this far and can help.
  18. So, I picked up an Oregon 200 for 100 bucks today. I am a relative noob, but isn't this a fantastic deal? It should be here within a week and I can't wait to get out there for some Iowa winter caching! Up to this point, we have been using our BBs with pretty good results. We were starting to think about doing some hides, so I thought it was time to take the plunge. I really want to make sure our coords are spot on. I was just looking for a little feedback from the community on the perks of this unit, or anything I need to watch out for. Thanks a lot and happy caching!
  19. I've stayed from social media, so a chinese company their government has a "1+%" stake in is a definite no. Hopefully someone looks. But with so many sites still calling this location hobby a real world, or real-life "treasure hunt", we can see that happening... New, weekend n done folks look for a cache, find a damp log and a broken mctoy, and say, "where's the loot? I walked 200 feet in woods...". I still feel that next to hoarders, "treasure" is a big reason so many trackables go missing. A once-and-done finds a plastic soldier, and a trackable tag or coin in the gladware. - Which one would they be taking as their treasure/souvenir of their day...?

  21. I have the above sat nav, can I use it to geocache? What do I need to enter - I've tried entering a number, ie, GC2WCTZ as a postcode but it doesn't find anything. What am I doing wrong?
  22. Hello all i got my new GPS (Oregon 200) this weekend!!! I was supper exceeded but to be truthful i was kinda disappointed with the streets and roads on it or better yet the LACK of them in my area. Basically, there is none on it other than MAJOR highways. How do i get streets on my Oregon 200. Thanks for any help!
  23. How many geocaches can I load into my Oregon 200?
  24. Howdy, I have a Garmin Oregon 300 with TOPO software for sale. I'm asking $200 for it. The unit is in great shape...there are 12 specks on the case that are lighter in color than the rest of the case, but nothing major. I changed over to a Colorado 400t, because I use GPS to hunt as well as geocache, and didn't want to risk scratching the touch screen. MERRY CHRISTMAS! BT
  25. Ok...feeling really stupid here.....I have an Oregon 200 with a microSD card. If I plug the GPS into my computer I see the extra storage area provided by the SD card. But if I store caches on this card, how do I access this information from my Oregon while out geocaching? I see no way to do this...so, what is the point of the card if I can't get to the information while "in the field?" Help.....what am I doing wrong?!!? Thanks in advance!
