Hi all. I have an Oregon 200. When doing multi caches I often key in coordinates from one cache to find the next one. The map feature accepts the new waypoint and plots it on the map, but the compass will not. The compass always shows the last geocache I seached for and that information stays in the compass until I select a new geocache. There seems to be no way to clear this information. So, basically anytime I "hand enter" coordinates or even select something of the "Where to" menu, the compass won't recognize it, but the map will. I find this very frustrating when doing multi caches. So, why is it that my compass will only accept/recognize geocaches and not other waypoints or GPS coordinates I enter in the Oregon 200. Anyone have any idea of what I'm talking about, and if so, can you help!??! Thanks!

I have been trying to download new caches to my oregon 200, and for the past couple weeks, it hasnt been working. I used to use the plug-in and click on "save to my GPS", but when that stopped working, I also tried saving the GPX file directly to my GPS, in the GPX folder. When I go through my computer and open the GPX folder, the GPX files for the new caches are saved in the GPX folder, but they don't show up on my GPS map??

I have recently been given a Garmin Colorado 200 GPSr which still has a large number of geocache descriptions loaded in it. I am unable to find a way to delete these and the person who gave it ti me has no idea either. Can anybody help please.

Hi there - sorry, very newbie to actual handheld GPSs. My daughter and I just stared geocaching last year and did it last year almost entirely with my iPhone. This works great where there is signal but, living in northern Canada, that's a pretty limited area. So, I found a used Triton 200 for sale and picked it up hoping it'd allow us to expand our range. It seems the location readings are consistently off. The N degrees seems to be fairly close but the W degrees is .075ish off pretty regularly. I'm getting these numbers compared to the iPhone geocache app which is bang-on when I'm looking for caches. I read a bunch of forums and didn't really find any thing other than a Magellan shift (which I assume means they are always wrong by a set degree and I must account for that manually). There used to be a link to the last 200 logs. Does that link and list still exist? The "last minute" crawler isn't quite the same thing.

Hi all Can you please help a newbie on here? I have had a Garmin Nuvi 200 for a few years and my wife loves it (will not try another make or model) The maps on it are dated 2006 and under map info it sates "City Navigator Europe NT v9 [1] UK & Ireland" Thinking these are getting old I went to Garmin.co.uk a new map is £40.00!! (I went to Halfords & purchased a Nuvi 250 £84. on special offer) How my wife still wants her Nuvi 200 with new maps So I went to my local news group and down loaded City Navigator Europe, the one dated 2009 is named "gmapsupp.img" the one dated 2010 is named "gmapprom.img" I tried to upload both using a USB lead to the Nuvi 200 and got the message "insufficient space" I have since tried a 2gb SD card and copied 2009 map to it and got the message "no maps found" I then tried the 2010 map and got the same message "no maps found" Please what am I doing wrong? And why are there two different file extensions? Thanks in advance for all your help

comes with usb cable ,garmin gps case ,2 windshield mounts , owners manual, have cached with this unit for 2 years with no problems reason for selling is i have upgraded to a paperless unit

Is there a way to navigate to an address with a Garmin Oregon 200? I got this device for geocaching, but I would also like to use if as a driving GPS. Thanks for the help!

So it seems like I'm incapable of operating this particular piece of technology. I have a .gpx file that I've tried to install using the garmin software, dragging it onto the memory card, and the waypoints show up, but they don't show up in the geocaching button. What am I doing wrong?!

I've recently purchased an Oregon 200 ($279 w/ TOPO Canada) and have found that it isn't a whole lot better than the Blackberry 8330 w/ Geocache Navigator that I was using previously. I'm still frustrated with inconsistent GZ readings, hopping around showing 0 metres then bouncing around to 6 or 8 metres (that's 20 to 25 feet). I see the REI deal with the Oregon 450 ($249 US) and I'm wondering if I should return the 200 and pick up the 450. Will the electronic compass make a significant difference when I get in close? What to do, what to do...? Thanks

I have not yet found a way to manually enter a set of coordinates into the Oregon 200. Yesterday we were cacheing and it was a progressive cache. Got the first one, based on the coordinates downloaded, but couldn't figure out how to put the next cache coordinates in. Any help or advise is appreciated.

So after becoming frustrated with my Blackberry 8330 (with Geocache Navigator) due to accuracy issues, I finally went ahead and took advantage of what seems like a pretty good deal at Costco (Oregon 200 with TOPO Canada maps for $279). I knew I'd have to do a bit of a sales job on my wife (she thinks GPS's are about $100) but she'd been caching with us and experienced the frustration of compass fluctuation so aside from her initial sticker shock, it went pretty well. So today she says why don't you take that one back (it's still in the box) and get a more expensive one (not a misprint), since that one is just for geocaching. Why don't you get one that we can use in the car as well, and does all that "turn right here" and calculates your arrival time, etc. So my question is: Is there a GPS that does double duty, as in works as a car navigation GPS and a decent paperless geocaching GPS? Or is there some app or add-on that I can use with the Oregon 200 that will serve the purpose(s). Please let me know your opinions on this matter. Thanks!!!

Help required please. I'm having difficulty entering co-ords for a bonus cache. The only way it seems possible is to drag to a point and save it as a waypoint. This is proving very frustrating as even with the maximum scale getting N and W settings accurate is beyond me. Isn't there a way just to put the co-ords straight in? Would be very grateful for help. I have been geocaching for half an year now, and am interested in a dedicated GPS for my birthday. I am currently using an iPhone 3G , and would like to get something within by budget. The unit does have to be somewhat rugged and hopefully waterproof, but does not need to have a touchscreen. A colour screen does help but is not mandatory, and it has to be powered by AA batteries, as rechargeables don't work for my long hikes. Any suggestions? My friend is using the Magellan eXplorist 310, and it looks tempting.

I have for sale a Garmin Oregon 200 touchscreen handheld GPS that is loaded with North America City Navigator 2011.10 and 2008 100k TOPO maps for $200OBO. It has a 8GB Micro SD card in it that the maps are loaded on (card can be put in any Garmin that has a SD slot to update that units maps). The unit is used and has a few scuffs and scrapes on the housing but the screen is in excellent condition and the unit works great. It comes with the original box and all paperwork, carabiner clip, vehicle vent mount for vehicle navigation, and the sync cable. The unit with maps and accessories cost me over $500 new when purchased less than a year ago. I only used the unit to Geocache and the only reason I am selling it is I got a newer upgraded unit over the holidays.

Cav Scout was banned, I was looking forward to doing his Earthcache when I went down to Washington DC. I noticed it was archived by Brad W. Looking at his account, every single one of his caches were archived. Why did this happen? Why was he banned? And why did so many caches that are still out there and still exist get archived. I can understand the 200 earthcaches he owned, you can't answer the questions if you can't E-mail. But, why archive the physical caches? What happened that I am missing? This happened recently they were archived on December 5th.

its less than 2 months old and wont turn on.(well stay on) it goes through the motions and just as the home page would turn on it shuts off. Its acting the same way as it would when the batteries are dead. it also will not connect to the computer with usb, any ideas??

I am really new to geocaching but my wife found it and now we are hooked. We started with an old Magellan Blazer12 then I got a Garmin eTrex Legend from work to use for a bit. Needless to say, the eTrex blows the Magellan out of the water. Now I am looking for something to go paperless with and auto load my caches. I don't want to spend anymore than $200 for a unit. I have found numerous refurbished Garmin units with 1-yr manufacture warranties on ebay. The two that I am focused on is the Colorado 300 or 400i (I know, the "i" stands for Inland waterways but I am going to load in better maps) and the Oregon 200. I am having a real hard time deciding between the two and I know both units are really good. The big difference is the Colorado has the wheel instead of the touch screen and the Oregon has the newer satellite "hotfix" feature. I am looking for some input from someone that actually uses one of these units for geocaching. If someone has owned and used both units, that would be even better. What are some of the best GPSr under $250?

HI I have been using iphone until now, but just excitedly received my Garim oregon 200 this week. Well I have had a lot of trouble downloading PQ into it. (and am seriously loving the ease of the iphone and wondering why I bothered to buy a GPS!) Please help me to overcome my problem. I have spent the last few days searching forums/garmin for answers, GSAK is recommended, but that seems to be for windows. I use Mac and have garmin oregon 200. PLease keep any answers relatively easy as I am learning as I go and not very technically minded. Thanks. I have manages to download caches one by one from website directly to it, but obviously that is not optimal I can download PQ OK. They say to "unzip it" using a winzip or something, but that seems to be just for windows ?. I can not find anything similar for a mac. I can put the file on the desktop and open it and see 2 separate files, caches and waypoints. When I connect my GPS and drag those files to it it says "memory full" even though the GOS has no or just a few caches on it, I also installed maccache . I somehow put the PQ in there on a "cache list" ( but now I can't remember how!) anyway, then I try to press the "to GPS " but a message comes back "gpsbabel quit unexpectantly" I did not even realize I had this gpsbabel. But I googled it, and "installed " or reinstalled it as case may be, restarted mac and same message happens. Thank you very much if you have read this far and can help.
