  1. Adding another cache to where I had mine listed for wouldn't happen because its just about 1.1-1.2/10 of a mile between 2 other caches. That's why it was decided that this was not a good location. A mutual decision between me and my reviewer.
  2. Some people do "hide" some T.B's or coins in caches but mostly its there own stock. I have never seen the use for that personally. I still have coins that I have never even activated yet. If a reviewer can see the listing can't they see if there are any TB's or coins in them as well? Your reply brings me to another Question. If a cache has never been published, why not use that GC# for a new cache. Kind of like Recycling a unused item. I would personally feel much better seeing it used then have it disappear.
  3. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had one of there unpublished caches in there "My Account" page Archived? I just got a e-mail the other day saying: Archiving due to inactivity. If you still have plans to work on this cache, please let me know and I can unarchived it. I was under the impression that it could only be archived by the user if it is in there "My Account" Cache Que. Now some background on the listing, At one point I had submitted it for review and it was determined that it was to close to another cache. Instead of archiving the GC # I have left it in my unpublished caches list until I decide to place a cache and use that GC# instead of getting a new GC#. I'm not mad about the archiving of the listing, just a little confused about how and why it was done. I have a few in my Que that I have not used yet, and its my understanding that I am now the only one that can ever use them since the cache #'s keep going up and old GC#'s never get recycled even if they have never been used. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Gene G.
  4. 3 things real Quick... 1.) Can you post a note as to what states have a GEOCAC set in already and keep them updated so everyone can see them and know there GPS location? ie... Arizona N xx xx.xxx W xx xx.xxx 2.) What states have plans in the works to have a GEOCAC Benchmark set. ie... State = Massachusetts Placer = Western Massachusetts Geocachers Proposed Location = Mt. Greylock Chosen Because = (Why this location was chosen can be anything. Easy Access, Historical Location, Metropolitan area, What ever the choice) Mt. Greylock was chosen because it is the highest point in Massachusetts.. 3.) Expect my order form to be sent to you by early next week. Hope you still have one for me. Now I just need to wait until spring for the Road to be opened after a 2 year repair. On a side note, can there be 2 in one state? I know some one on the east side of Mass that would love to do one out there. Gene G. aka... genegene
  5. Looks more like dino droppings Seriously though, That place looks awesome. I hope to some day get there and check out that area. the E.C. is very well written and I love the pics that were included in the listing.
  6. what if you could only name one though? Out of all the E.C. in Kentucky he's probably set up all but one
  7. Neos2 I can find this if you want some. Need to wait until the snow melts in the spring now. Was thinking about doing a EarthCache on one of the 6 mines that this could be found in. 6 mines= 1 on P.P. no permission granted Yet 5 with there own EarthCache 1 EarthCache to cover all 5 accessible mines Grand Total = 6 EarthCaches There is going to be a lot of leg work getting to all of the mines and getting the info that is needed for publishing them. I have already gained permission from the state to start them, then they will review what I have and let me know if there are any problems. Rose Quartz I would love to get some of that rock to...
  8. MissJenn, the link you posted = http://www.delorme.com/geocachingfun is broken. No info on the page..
  9. Use this link, It might help. http://www.americanhiking.org/NTD.aspx Its the National Trails Day. It can be used as a CITO as well
  10. I agree a lot of great info is here in the forums. The problem is that it could get buried in a matter of a day if the forums are very busy. Also I have talked to many cachers who do not use the Groundspeak forums. so they would not even think to look here. The intention is to have all of the great info that other cachers want to share, published on one site after they post it here. That way if someone wants to see if there is a "How To" on what they want to do they can look in one place and not have to scroll through tons of pages and hope they find something close to what they are looking for. If you noticed I also set up a "Wanted" area for people that are looking for something. If they cant find it they can just ask and hopefully someone will help out with what they are looking for. Sputnik 57, The info you posted is a great start. There is some realy great info within the links you posted as well. I will contact the authors and get the OK to reprint them on the How To Guides. The one thing I will not do is to just take someones info and re-post it with out there OK. I need to first get there OK, then once received I will then get it set up and send them the link, I then have to wait and get there OK on that. Its not a long process, it is just nice to have a final OK before anything gets posted on the site. I want the right person to get credit for there work and for them to say "everything looks good to me". Keep the links coming in and the replies. It looks like it eventually might have a lot of info on some realy great topics. Trainlove, you and I have meet several times and I know, you know a ton of things. Want to share with everyone else as well (hint hint)... Gene G. aka... genegene
  11. Now I just hope people will submit topics. I realy think that it will be a great site for new cachers that have no idea how to do things. I'm going to add a link that people can submit there thoughts on changes as well.
  12. The info about the C.I.T.O. is not in our Database. I have linked from our website to the F.G.A. website. As far as I know that is the best one out there.
  13. Hay every one, I have started a area on the W.M.G. website that will house all kinds of great How To Guides that will cover everything that you can think of that has to do with Geocaching and the tools we use. What I'm looking for is anything that you know how to do, that you would like to share with the rest of the world. It can be on anything you want it to be on. There is nothing that would not be worthy of being in the Database, you can even do one on how to camouflage a ammo can if you want to. The information does not have to be long or short, you just need to make it as long as it needs to be to teach other people how to do what you know how to do. The information is completely FREE to access and you do not have to join the W.M.G. website. The reason that I wanted to start this Database is because when I wanted to have a GSAK profile, I needed to learn how to do it all on my own, and do a trial and error learning process, and it took a long time to learn it all on my own because there was no How To guide on doing one. After many request I finally sat down and actually wrote down how to do a GSAK profile. While I wrote it all down, to my surprise I learned how do do things much easier then what I was doing the whole time. It was a great learning experience for me. Some of what we have is been well received so far and the comments are great. If you want to go check it out and see what we have so far. How To Guides Gene G. genegene
  14. There is a way to do it, but its not going to be easy. 1) If they are a P.M. you can just ask them for one of there "My Finds" PQ and then see what they have found. 2) Go to there GC page / caches found / run a Waypoint Download on all of there finds. Like I said, you can do it but its not easy
  15. 1) What type of ISP are you using? I sometimes run into the same problem. 2) Sometimes it does take a while for it to update the page "if" you keep moving it. 3) If you are using Dial up you might want to forget the whole thing. 4) Make sure that the box next to "Geocaching Network KML" is checked, as well as everything else that will show up under it for geocache types. 5) Make sure that when you download the file, you let it be saved where it wants to be saved. I personally do not change where it wants to be put for this type of application. It will end up withen Googles files anyways. 6) Is your Google Earth up to date? Keep us posted
  16. Its weird that when I go to the downloads section, I can open a file and then opens with mapsorce but it still has the GSAK logo. Is the reconized logo for .gpx files the same as the one that GSAK uses?
  17. I can only change it to "all files" from gsak, these are the only 2 options I have. That's why I'm sure I'm having problems. It wants to only download as a gsak file, and even if I try "all Files" MapSourse won't recognize it because it wants to open in gsak. Did you try the download and see of there were trail maps on it?
  18. Im trying to download a .gpx file from http://www.gpsbasecamp.com/national-parks/...a_National_Park Every time I try and save it, it wants to download it as (Type: gsak) I don't want it to do that. GSAK wont open a .gpx file for me to view. I want to view it in MapSource. So I want to save it as a .gpx file I know it has something to do with how I download .gpx extensions but I dont know where to look. I have already changed how .gpx files are opening (My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types) now I need to change how they are downloaded. Thanks, genegene
  19. Is Rhodonite the same thing as Rose Quartz
  20. Softball29 I would highly recommend talking to Mama Geoslider of the Geosliders. They were the ones that hosted the picnic that we meet at. When I run into a jam I contact her for insight and info for things in our area. Any EarthCache that is under the name Geosliders are very well done and I look forward to doing it.
  21. After sending e-mails about the new Benchmark "GEOCAC" I have been given the final ALL SET from the Massachusetts National Geodetic Survey's State Geodetic Advisor, Mr. Curtis Crow. He is even going to be on hand for its placement. There are just a few loose ends that I need to tie up like the best location in the area on Top of Mt. Greylock in Adams Mass (Google Earth 42° 38.235'N 73° 9.960'W) The reasons I have chosen this location are many, It is to Honer all of our fallen heroes in times of war, To thank the C.C.C.'s for all the hard work that they did in creating many of the Federal and State parks that we use today, and the fact that it is the highest point in the state of Massachusetts. This fall when the road finally reopens up to traffic (maybe sooner) I along with the park ranger of Mt. Greylock and the Regional Director of D.C.R., we will locate the best location for the benchmark to be place at, that will not interfere with the daily operations of the park as well as a location that can be easily accessed by Geocachers, Benchmark Hunters, and Surveyors. As soon as I have the location for it and a date that the road to Mt. Greylock will reopen on after the winter closing I am going to have an event to commemorate its placement. If I can get the Benchmark Disk this fall I am going to have it on display at the Mt. Greylock H.Q. so everyone can see what it looks like before its placed this spring. I would love to see the coins made with the locations on the back of of them for each state in the future.
  22. maps are working but not the pictures as of yet. Thanks for the info Keystone. I must have missed that post. I figured something was going on and not to worry to much about it.
  23. worked for me ( 01201 ) but I don't like the fact that it is harder to find caches now. I liked the old way better, where you could just enter in the zip code on the home page, and get them.
  24. I got that same message a little while ago and then it was all better. I think they were updating the system because it looks different. so far it looks good
