  1. ArtMan where would i find a hard copy of the original record, if one exists?
  2. what does moveing to Geocaching.com Web Site mean?
  3. does any one know if there is some way to get and have your benchmarks included in the downloadable verson of the stat bar. If not who do we contact to have it added in to it.
  4. not sure if this will help you? but i found it quite interesting in finding benchmarks in my area. I dont have a high speed conection like some do so i diddent explor it to its full potential but its a start. the first tells you how to use it and the second is the page. ngsngs2
  5. TIE ? TBM ? what do thoes mean im a nubie? and how far away 1,2,3ft or like 10 to 15 ft? the location is off in the weeds and young trees are scatered arround and i will be neading a rake just to get a better look at the ground becouse of all the leaves and decaing matter, not that im complaning, just wondering. and also what are the markers made of? I have acces to a metal detector..
  6. In benchmark MZ0452 it says Note: disc set away from marker etc... Does this mean one was placed or should be placed? and if placed, how far away do they place them?
  7. Dont swett the small stuff, just becouse it has been found allready doesent mean that there is no fun in the hunt. sometimes it is better if the cache has been found a couple of times just to get the bugs out of it and cords better. sometimes there are better clues in the comments also.
  8. Stay away from the e-trex becouse they don't work as good in the woods. If you want to be on the open water there fine, but once you get in the woods with trees covering your head they are not very good at all. one thing you left out is your price range that would help us, help you decide on a model. I own a garmin map60, the basic of the 60s and i dont have any complants yet. It has a USB port and is able to acept topo maps and water proof. I paid on the steap end of $352.00 and then later found it on the web for like 175.00. It just shows that you should look around a little bit more. Unless it says brand new in the box, I wouldent buy it of e-bay. Also check out GARMINs web sight and look at the diffrent fetures of GPS units. and weather or not a GPS is still being made. If you plan on doing caches in the woods, choose one that has an external antena, ( it helps with recption ). There are two other companys that make GPS units but garmin in my oppion leads the way in user frendly and personal hand held units. let us know what you decide. GENEGENE
  9. whats so diffrent about servaor metal detectors and privat detectors? they all pick up metal dont they?
  10. in my area i have found ones that havent been loged since they were placed in the 30's and im currently working on one that hasenet been found since 42. ( been loged as missing ) would thoes cound as bonus points?
  11. Black dog, here's an idea for you to you to try. go to your library and ask for topo maps dating back to the early 1900's. i have done that in the past to find old celler holes in my area and to my amazment they help out when looking for old buildings that are no longer there
  12. first off my name is GENE and secondly i think every one has a gene in them to hunt and capture game... and that is what we do. hunt CACHES and capture our game PRIZES OR BRAGING RIGHTS. so even if they say they are not interested in it take them out on a couple and then ask them.... genegene

  14. when 3 1/2 ft. of snow don't stop you from makeing your first find in the middle of the woods with no snowshoes 1mi. from the nearest plowed rd. first finds are exciting for a newbee

  17. just got the topo mapquest cd's for gpsmap60 and they show me all the roads in my area not all the names but its not bad, some sections much better detailed then others but what do u expect for 1: 100,000 maps right? they range any where from 90- 150 $ depending an where u look. hopes this helps GENEGENE
  18. NOT A CHANCE IN H#@*...... YOU DONT KNOW Y IT WAS ABONDEND AND THE STRUCIAL INTEGRITY OF IT. FOR ALL YOU KNOW THE NEXT TIME YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE ENTERS IT, IT COULD CAVE IN. THEN IF SOME ONE WANTED TO SUE, THEY COULD, THE OWNER OF THE MINE AND YOU FOR GITTING THEM TO GO IN THERE. GRANTED IT WAS THERE STUPIDITY. MY SUGJESTION IS LEAVE IT ALONE, PUT A CACHE NEAR IT AND INFORM THE CACHER OF ITS PREASENTS AND LET THEM MAKE THE DECISION TO ENTER IT OR NOT. AND CHECK THE STATE WILDLIFE WEBSIGHT ON THAT PITICULAR BAT, WE HAVE A CAVE NEAR ME IN MASS. THAT HOUSES A BAT FROM NEAR YOUR AREA THAT IS PROTECTED AND ANY ONE COUGHT ENTERING WILL GO TO PRISON. AND ANOTHE ONE THEY BLOCKED OFF BECOUSE MORONS WOULD ENTER IT AND THEN GIT STUCK AND THEN THE FIRE DEP. WOULD HAVE TO GO IN AND GET THEM THEN SLAM THEM WITH BIG FINES. THINK VERY CAIRFULLY BEFOR PLACING ONE IN THERE... GENEGENE
  19. OK Heres a question then! when certen groups hold events and there are prizes for the team that logs the most caches in a given time, or when jeep and geocaching.com did a joint venture (The Challenge officially started on August 1st, 2006. After that date, when you found a green 2006 Jeep Rescue Concept Travel Bug you had the opportunity to sign up for the 2006 Jeep 4x4 Geocaching Challenge. Each month, this site provided a goal for the green Jeep Travel Bugs. You could enter the challenge by completing the goal each month - by taking a photo with the 2006 green Jeep Travel Bug and the goal in the same photo. (If you did not find a Travel Bug in a registered cache, there were other options on the contest page.) Each month, we awarded a new Garmin GPSMAP 60CX GPS unit to the first prize contest winner. ) does this mean that it would now,IN THESE CONTEX, be conciderd a sport, becouse of a clear winner and loosers? 20. WITH WHAT CAME WITH MINE, I DONT GET ANYTHING BUT THE MAIN ROADS ANYWHERE BUT I THINK IF YOU GET THE STREET MAP CD YOU SHOULD GET ALL OF THE SECONDS AND THIRDS IN IT...
  21. ONE OF THE ONES I WANT TO DO IS GOING TO HAVE A TOTAL OF 6, INCLUDING THE START. A LOT OF WALKING IN MINE
  22. Definition: Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Used by itself, sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors. from, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport Does this mean that we can now classify Geocaching as a sport and not a game? Lets take a look shall we? 1: an activity that is governed by a set of rules Yes: we have rules that tell us where and how to place caches 2: or customs and often engaged in competitively Yes: we have geocaching edicuit and there are teams that chalange each other 3: Used by itself, sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), Yes: we challange our selfs or others to find caches that are placed in hidden location all over the world, and our physical limitations are the only limitations that we have in order to reach our goal of winning the prize; the fealing of pride that you get. 4: but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors. Yes: Mind, you need the mental prowless of a detective to find a cache sometimes. Moter sport, have to drive to the location ( as close as you can ) and in one piece. Equipment quality, some say that the more pricer your G.P.S. is the better off you are, and others will dissagre! my personal oppion is ( you get what you pay for ) but what ever you chose is right! it's up to you. In the deap woods with heavy cover an external antena might be the best bet, and in open ares an internal antena will surfice just fine. In my nonexpert opion I do belive that Geocaching is a SPORT, played by a lot of people with very little (if any) coverage on T.V. and scatterd magizine and newspaper stories. Is this bad? I dont think so. I feal like im apart of a secret orginazation that operates in the shadows, of all the goings on in the world. Where other like minded Men, Women, and Children, can share personal thoughts and locations, with others that might enjoy what the cache might show about that peticular location. So what are your thoughts about ( A SPORT OR NOT A SPORT ) Please Share !!! GENEGENE
  23. Im new to this SPORT, and the first cache i found was less then .3 mi from my house. The question i have is what is the proper ediquite on geocaches? 3 days after i left it, someone stoped in and found it and deposited a geocoin, and i would to go back and retrive it and deposit it somewhere else or place it in my first cache in the spring. I have not had the heart to go and get it because 1. i dont know if it is fair, 2. dont know if i am allowed to return to a sight? I havent read anywheres on the web sight or the book on proper ediquit on this subject. I dont want to ruffel the feathers of fellow geocachers who will be going to this sight in the future to try and get their first coin, or first time there in hopes of getting a coin in the process. Thanks for all the advice that i will recive on this topic. geocacher: GENEGENE
