  1. version 2? what is this all about? what will change? is this a practical joke?
  2. I used to feel the same way you do now. Then one night before I went to bed ( at midnight )I checked my listings in my area and found that 8 or 9 new ones just popped up. Never having a F.T.F. I really wanted to nail one badly and would do almost anything to get one. so at 12:15 am I headed out to get it. Fortunately for me the 3 main cachers in the area have never done midnight runs, none according to the logs I have read. so I was hopeful to get one. I was able to log my first F.T.F. that night and low and behold I got my 2nd one less then 3 weeks later at 3 in the afternoon, after all others had logged D.N.F.'s the day before. Not being a premium member yet, I do not get the instant notification feature so I'm left to the old " caches within 10 mi. " page in my favorites folder and check it 3 or 4 times a day. You will get one with out the instant notification when you leas expect it, you ll see just give it time
  3. From my cords. in pittsfield mass., there are 101 caches within 10 Mi. 51/ I have found, 4/ are mine, 2 were F.T.F.s... At 15 Mi. there are 150 caches, and at 20 Mi there are 220 caches. This area Gaines on average of 5 caches per week at 20 Mi.
  4. Its very interesting reading these logs. I have only received 2 F.T.F. and both in the last month. The first one was in the middle of the night and the second one came after the first day of being listed and every one posted a did not find. That night I added a note saying that I would be in the area between 1 and 1:30 and if any one wanted to meet up on a joint hunt to show up, when I arrived I met up with Rocking the Goat and we started to look around. after almost 2 hours Rocking the goat decided to give up and go have a beer, and I decided to keep looking for another 1/2 to 1 hr longer before giving up. Just as the goat had gotten to the road I found it and yelled down for the Goat to return. I decided not to touch the cache and ruin the hunt, so I just sat back and let her look around in the area. Even though She was to retrieve the cache first, she gave me the credit and the F.T.F. prize. But honestly the prize for me was that I got to meet 1/2 of the goat team, and isn't that the best prize any one can can get? If I am ever on a hunt like this one, and another cacher showed up, who ever finds it, should leave it in its place and not ruin the hunt for the other. If it is shown to the other cacher with out them looking for it, shouldn't the log read (2nd to log) and not (2nd to find)?
  5. I still don't understand what I need to do?
  6. In the next log he never said what happened. only talks about 2 days later.
  7. you have to keep reading like me. you just need to fallow his logs as they progress over the caches. i have gone 3 more and I'm hooked and want to know where they end up. but I'm going to bed and will continue with them tomorrow.
  8. after these 3 , I want to jump off that bridge . now I cant stop reading his logs
  9. never thought of a light post that way. I'm going to pay homage to one tonight, and offer a small token of my unworthiness.
  10. link to ted the caver if you want to read it.... http://www.tedthecaver.com/
  11. If this is a repeat of another post, sorry... This thread is for all of those logs that you have run across, that had you laughing out loud. Most of the regulars here in the forums now know me by my avatar picture and have there own ideas about me, Good or Bad. I have found one that I think everyone will enjoy reading. If you have one that someone has logged, or one that you have logged, Post it here so we all can read it and laugh. Please post the name of the cache, I.D.#, and the date, at the beginning or end of the cache log. genegene June 28 by genegene (78 found) This log is in 3 parts. Why? Because it wouldn't fit in one log. What a cache this one was. My very first first to find. Was it worth it? You decide. It all started the night of the 27th. I had just finished reading Ted the caver, (visit link) and was about to go to bed, when I decided to just check to see if there were any new listings. I have a radius of 10 miles from my zip code locked into my favorites folder, so I can just check and run. WHOA!!! 8 new ones. 2 are right down the road. After some moaning and butt kissing, the wife finally said that I could go and get one. Fortunately I had already downloaded the coordinates into the GPS. Now what do I need to be out in the woods at night? 3 small mag lights and 1 large one, 1 bright neon green jacket, 1 hunter orange hat, 1 walking stick, 1 GPS, 1 pen, and NO FEAR. Out the door I go it is now 12:10am, hope fkrol, Aquaman134 or Mushroomman have not decided to make a midnight run like myself. Arrive at the park at 12:15am and see that the park is closed from Dusk till Dawn. Hope that no cops show up and run me off or worse give me a ticket. I pull into the lot and see no cars are around and better yet no tire tracks in the fresh puddles. This might be my lucky F.T.F. cache. Lucky for me there is a bit of moon light out to help lead the way. I kept the big mag light off as not to attract any attention on my way in. 500, 400, 300, 200, 100, 50, almost there. Shoot, I need to cut through the wet grass. I'm here, now to start looking. Not here, maybe there, nope. Darn the moon is gone. What is that? I don't like the looks of what ever that is, better investigate. I start to look at what ever this container is and don't like what I see part 2 Now take into consideration I have just finished reading a story kinda like the Blair witch, and my nerves are on red alert being in the dark and all alone. There is no ID to tell me it is a geocache. Is this some sort of sickos sick idea of a Bobbie trap and what are the odds of it being near a geocache? and in the middle of the trail. I'm on full alert while checking this thing out, KERPLASH!!!! I jump 5 feet in the air. what was that? Talking? do I hear talking coming towards me? I listen for a few. Nothing must be the wind in the trees playing tricks on my ears. Investigate again, KERPLASH!!!! Now I am so freaked out it is not even funny. The hair on the back of my neck is standing straight up, NO LIE. I want to go and do this one in the morning when I can see. No you cry baby do this and get it over with, you are a man, get the find and then you can go home. I still do not like the looks of this container. I take off my jacket and put my wallet in the pocket along with my GPS, and place it about 30 feet away. Just in case it is not, what I hope it is. I carefully pick it up and inspect it, and start to pry the lid off. KERPLASH!!! I drop the container, look around for a few minutes, nothing. Pick it up again and pry the lid. Why is it making a hissing sound? Don't stop, keep going. I stop. I try shaking it hoping to hear that there is what sounds like a log book and a pen inside. Something is in there, try again. I don't like that hissing sound!!! POP!!! I fly backwards and land on my bumm and the contents fall all over the ground. part 3 It's the cache. I quietly laugh at my self for my nervousness. I start to check out the contents. Am I the first? Noooo!!!! there are wooden nickels in here that have other cachers logos on them. Who are these people and how did they beet me here? ARUGH!!! I am so disappointed. Fill out the log and still have a story to tell anyways. Wait a minute. I am the First To Find. Better make sure first. I am. I start to do a little F.T.F. dance. Signed the log and then got the heck out of there. I really didn't want to find out what made those noises in the water anyways. On a side note: I received 4 personal firsts on this cache. 1: First to Find, 2: first night cache, 3: First time I broke the law to find a cache, 4: the first one of these containers. I don't recommend trying to get the 3rd one. I did place the cache off to the side of the trail in the bushes and sent an e-mail to the Rocking the Goat at like 2 am to let them know that it was messed up and that I had no idea how it was supposed to be placed. I hope you can laugh at me, as well as I am still laughing at my self on this one. Thank you Rocking the Goat for the experience, and Mad Min for publishing it when you did. genegene _________________________________________________________________________________________ Fred Garner Park Gas Saver GC13YVC A cache by, Rocking the Goat
  12. GURU4HIRE: It is most likely your area. There might not be as many cachers in your area as in others. Here in the Pittsfield Mass. area I kind of think that we are gaining more caches per week then new cachers per year. What I mean by this is that we have a very healthy growth rate of caches and that is very good for all who play, but the problem is that we are slow in gaining new cachers to the area to the south of me. The best way to raise awareness of geocaching' is to hold events. Try to hold an event that asks every Geocacher to bring one non Geocacher that they know, or there family to a Pot luck Picnic, and then plan on everyone doing some caching. Afterwords have every one meet back at the picnic area and tell what they think of the day they just had. This Idea might bring some new cachers in to the area and help the growth rate of caches for you.
  13. Why is it that posts always get off the topic???????? It was a simple Question. It had 3 possible answers and here they are: I like them, I don't like them, I don't care.... Pick one of the 3, Its that simple!!!!!!! After the choice is made you can add in any suggestion's you want to. There is no reason to keep arguing about who is right about one thing and wrong about another, is there? Who cares Gene
  14. What does that have to do with anything Andrew? If you are going to say the word "CAR" in the next comment, don't even go there. You will be opening up a whole new can of worms that is not meant to be in this topic. I'm sure most of us will know what u will say next. Gene
  15. The new look is better and a lot more easy on the eyes. Thank you jeremy, for taking the time to listen to all the rants and raves in this post and trying to work on a happy medium that we all can live with. Hopefully my P.M. will begin tonight. Deffinitaly the term "FREELOADER" was the wrong one to have used. Have you ever seen any of the news stories on TV or read any in the news paper? That is the best kind of publicity you can get, FREE!!! Do you honestly think any of those reporters or editors would shell out 30 bucks for something they might not even air, go to print or use. News stories no mater how big or small bring attention to this game. witch means in the long term should bring more premium memberships. Were you saying that reporters were freeloaders also, when you made that comment? The thing that bothers me now is what Jeremy said in one of his posts "I have no control over that. In fact Google strictly forbids me to make it so those links open in a new window." Who runs this web sight, Groundspeak or Google? Is Google now telling people how to run there sights or else they will not put them in there search engine? Groundspeak tells them where there ads go or else they don't need google's money. If the word is out that Ground speak is looking for advertisers or goes to them with #'s and facts, they will pay. If I had a product that would apply here I would want it here. but that is just me. Anyways, Thank you Jeremy for you time. genegene
  16. ha ha like i haven't heard that one before.
  17. just a question: is iryshe Jermy? one of the founders of Groundspeak? I dont know thats why im asking. genegene
  18. Andrew, Let me be the first to say that I do thank all of the Premium Members and I do not complain about caches that are for members only, I agree with geocaching.com as to why they have them, and they give the cacher the right to make them that way. When I first started playing I wanted to get all the extras involved in being a Premium Member. The one I really want is the download ability. There are somethings that have changed in the 4 mo. that I did not care for but kept my mouth closed. But this new one really bugs me. I was told in the past, that if there was something that I would like to see, or see changed I should post it here because Groundspeak does monitor these posts carefully for problems, concerns, and Ideas for the future changes. I admit that my tone in the first post was harsh and I apologize for that. Therefor I did an EDIT to it to reflect a better tone then the one we started off with. There are times that I see something that grabs my attention on the side bars and will go to that web sight and do some more looking at it. I have even received my birthday present through one of the advertisers from my sister who is still getting into this game. Might I suggest having more then one advertisement bar on the side. these grab peoples attention pretty good I think. Hay, its an idea that might work better then the new way!
  19. correction "was going to be submitted" is the wrong wording. It should read "IS going to be submitted" I would still play this game whether or not they were there. I just totally dislike the placement of them
  20. Actually I have been out of work because of surgery and finally have received the OK to return to work 4 weeks ago. I have been out since Sept. of last year. On Friday my membership to geocaching.com was going to be submitted so I could become a premium member like both of you. The issue with ads being in the middle of descriptions, I was not playing the game when that happened so I had no clue that it was changed. The post was my reply as to what I thought about it. The topic was the question. I could have made the topic to say "I HATE THE NEW FEATURE!!!" But that is not what it was about. It asked if you love it or hate it? And for you technical people ( Like or Dislike ).
  21. well I would go after one if it came up near me and I was able to go after it. like last night

    Rate My Cache

I like the idea. I vote yes
  23. This new feature just showed up when I went to look at the listings in my area. Do I like it ? NO. To me they are an annoyance and a time and space waster. If I wanted to find any thing for GPS's. From carrying cases, mapping systems or in car systems, I will use the Google Search bar. I don't need to see it under the top 3 listings on the cache page. I know you guys at geocaching.com need money to keep this game running, but do you need to put them in the listings? What will you do next, place them in the middle of the cache description?
