  1. I don't think you can. the best thing is to archive it and then do a hole new listing with a new log
  2. I use then when i list a cache and have gotten into the habit of it. I love getting e-mails from my administrator asking me to use them.
  3. From "my" point of view it seams that you were negative from the start. It sounded like you were saying that ("we don't care what you think of us, We have a H3 with a nice paint job. We are better and richer then you.") I don't know why I have gotten this impression, but it doesn't matter. You will find that certain people love to have an argument no matter who is right and who is wrong in the forums. Like so many others I have stopped getting involved with petty arguments over stupid stuff. That is why I haven't bothered going in to the forums any more, Whats the point? Today I am here looking to see if something was posted about a topic I am looking for. Gitting on the bad side of cachers in the forums is not a good idea, word travels fast and you will be surprised that if you ever go to an event you will meet some one who has read something you have posted. You may be thinking that the chances of this happening is very rare, but it's not. People in NY know of me from the forums. I have only been to 3 events and 2 were in NY and the other was mine that had people from NY come over to it. So in short, you might want to watch what you say and how its worded. Its not worth the fight or the negative impression that other cachers will have of you. What you drive or what you are worth doesn't matter in this (Hobby, game, sport) no matter what you call it.
  4. Hes lucky there was more then one. I almost got shot looking to place a part 2 to GC13066 ... While I was puled over and looking around at a possible cache home for #2 I inadvertently left my car door open and walked about 15 feet in to the woods. I could see my car from where I was and saw that the door was open but didn't think twice about it. I know a lot of people in the area and was in a pull off area along the main Rd. The whole area is just calling out for a cache as I'm looking around at it. Next thing I know I see a state trouper slam on his brakes and do a 180 in the middle of the rd. and then pull up and stop in front of my car. Well needless to say I need to go find out what's up. DUMB move not making to much noise in the woods, I head tords him quickly and like I said with not much noise either. I must have spooked him or something because that right hand dropped tords his gun as fast as a man in a wild west showdown. well after a few minutes of explaining y my door was open, and why I was in the woods, off he went
  5. This happened to me once. I was given a heads up to a cache went out and found it and then logged it that I found it on the paper. I do not consider it as a FTF because of the fact that I had a heads up on it, and it would not be fair to the cacher who went out the first day of the listing to look for it. A few days later when It was published, that same Question popped up as to weather or not the actual FTF ( in my opinion ) was the first or not. I emailed him and told him that he was and it would not be fair if I claimed it because I had advanced knowledge of it. after about the 3rd cache, I listed on the cache page that I found it with no mention of being the first to find.
  6. I would love to become one, Sorta.. The one thing I have noticed is that one reviewers approval to a cache listing, is another's disapproval. In my opinion there needs to be stricter RULES not GUIEDLINES as to what is and what is not allowed. After organizing my first event and running into the problem about having the raffle listed on the event page and then looking at other listings it seems as though once a event is listed it is never looked at agen. This is why some events have Raffles listed while others don't. When I went to an event in N.Y. I asked dirtfan how he got away with having the listing posted with the raffle listed in it, and he said that there never was an issue, it went right through. Why did it work for him and not me? I don't know and right now I don't really care. To get back on the topic, weather or not you have a lot of finds should not really be a factor in my opinion as to weather or not you become a reviewer. heck if it weren't for my 2 beautiful boys ( 1 will be 2 in November and the other is 2mo ) I would be pushing 1000 finds by now. Family comes first not finds. I spend what free time I have by my self to go and find one or two, but need to choose what I will go after and how much time I have to get to the area walk to the cache site and look and then get home to help out around the house. I do have time to spend on the computer where I spend most of it now ( home ). I am planing on my 2nd event and have sent out notice of it to cachers in the area and waiting on replies as to there thoughts and Ideas on it. Events 3 & 4 will be after the new year. So if the chance ever arose that my name has come up, I would jump at it in a heartbeat
  7. how do I put more notes in the note section, when in the FIND, GEOCACHE, listing. The notes only let me put in the first line of that huge box. I looked in the manual, but there is nothing in there about it. can anyone help me?
  8. OL here's the deal, I finally got the premium membership so I can down load all the caches on a page that i put a check mark on. Now when I go to download them I get an error message. The other thing is pocket queries. I filled one out but I'm getting no results back. did I not do something or haven't downloaded something that is needed? thanks for your help
  9. 2 things, 1) I didn't realize it was her birthday 2) After reading all the posts I understood what was the problem and took out everything about a raffle or door prizes. then it was published. If G.S. had mad the rule a little bit clearer in the Guideline I would have not gone through all of the headaches I went through. I did add a link in the cache listing that talked about the raffle and then there was no problem with the listing
  10. For some reason G.S. keeps logging me out after about 20 minn. I'm usually doing notes in listings or writing long letters and when I go to send it or post it, I keep getting the notice that I was logged out and now I need to write everything all over again. Does any one else notice this or is it just me? No I am not a premium member yet. I have the money but just need to send it in, I will do it after the event that I'm hosting. But has any one else noticed this or is it just me? just curious.

  12. deleted every thing refering to raffle or door prizes. Now i wait
  13. well now I edited it to say this When you arrive you will be given a ticket for the "DOOR prizes" to be given away at the end of the day "DOOR prizes" so far: 1 unactivated geocoin 1 unactivated geocoin 1 hand carved walking stick 1 $25.00 Dunkin’ Donuts rechargeable gift card ( for those early morning cachers ) 1 $25.00 gift card to ARCADIAN SHOP 2 ready to place cache (evil Micros) 2 ready to place cache (regular) If you have anything you would like to donate to the "Door prizes" please let me know so I can keep the list updated. The more things we have, the better the "Door prizes". I think this will be allowed. let you know tomorrow
  14. Keystone: When you say " There is no vast frog-driven conspiracy against you or your event. " I do believe you and in no way do I think that. It sounds like that this is a continuing problem when it comes to events and that no one enforces the rules unless its reported. If I thought I could get away with it I would try the "EDIT LATER" idea. Unfortunately I am one that does not want to break the rules and get in trouble with GS or my administrator, besides mine might be coming to the event and I don't want to be on the bad side and get yelled at in front of everyone.
  15. I have just received another e-mail about the raffle and this is what I wrote and this is what I received back. _____________________________________________________ When you arrive you will be given a ticket for the prize drawings at the end of the day and have an option to buy additional Raffle tickets for 50 cents a ticket, with all proceeds going towards next years event, prizes, and park fees. _____________________________________________________ again, you CANNOT discuss the raffle on the cache page. This is what I am hearing from Groundspeak. If you would like to ask them about it, please send them an email at contact@Groundspeak.com - make sure you reference the GC#. I cannot publish this event with that info in there. _______________________________________________________ What I don't understand is that in this listing, NY Capital Region Geocachers 5th annual picnic GC10EE5, has it written this way Saturday, September 15th, 2006 9:00am -- Registration Opens 9:00am -- Coin Sales Begin 9:00am -- Poker Run Registration 9:00am -- Downloading of Coordinates 9:00am -- Raffle Ticket Sales 10:00am -- Geocoin trading at the pavilion 11:45am -- Potluck Lunch 3:00pm -- 5:00pm Poker Run Check In 5:00pm -- Group Photo 5:15pm -- Raffle and Game Winners Announced 7:00pm -- Night caches available 8:00pm -- Campfire --At the pavilion 9:00am -- Raffle Ticket Sales ? why are they allowed to post it and I'm not? I'm going to contact G.S. and find out the real reason for this and post it as soon as I here back from them.
  16. What about Right of ways? In the next town over from me there is a pond that has a make shift boat ramp on it. It is also the heart of the Housatonic River. There is a R.R. crossing about 1 mi south of the pond. The road leading up to the boat ramp goes directly along side the R.R. Tracks. In all the years that I have traveled along and over the tracks in my car, no one has ever said anything to me, Police or R.R. personal. Using Google Earth, these are the coordinates: 42°22'42.36"N 73° 6'48.16"W = railroad crossing, 42°23'11.17"N 73° 6'48.14"W = Boat launch
  17. If I asked for donations for next years picnic that would be OK? And if I changed it to say: ( When you arrive you are given a ticket for the prize drawings at the end of the day and have an option to buy more Raffle tickets for 50 cents a ticket, with all proceeds going towards next years event, prizes and park fees. ) Would this be acceptable in the listing and in cachers eyes. I really want this to go over well but am on limited funds to pay for everything my self. Next year I hope to have a bigger group of people to help make all the preparations then this year. I will also have a sign up sheet for local cachers to sign up if they want to help next year.
  18. Not sure where this topic belongs so I'm starting it here. I am in the process of doing my first event picnic and I want to do a 50/50 raffle with all the money raised, going towards next years picnic event. Initially was told that I could not post a 50/50 raffle on the listing. A brief reason was given. Then when I was looking around at how other picnics are being done I noticed that one group has stated that " raffle sales begin at 9:00am ". So I changed the listing to say this: ( " When you arrive you are given a ticket for the prize drawings at the end of the day and have an option to buy a special raffle ticket, with all proceeds going towards next years picnic." ). Isn't this the same thing as saying that there will be a raffle sale like the other picnic is doing. We do not have an official website or group leaders yet but I did start a Group on Yahoo before I thought about hosting the picnic. I have had a lot of help on getting the final listing done before posting it to Geocaching.com. So my questions are, why is a 50/50 not aloud to be posted on GC.com, Why is it that one group can sell raffle tickets for a lot of big prizes, But I cant for one big prize. Is the 50/50 raffle " not aloud to be listed " more of a guideline then a rule. My administrator has asked me to remove the entire mention of selling a ticket and the 50/50 from the listing. I will comply with the request, even though I do not agree with it. I have asked many Questions of my administrator and I believe have built up a good Rep. I do not want to be on the bad side of my Administrator in any way, but this whole thing has me a bit confused. Any help on this issue would be great.
  19. This is a Yes or NO Question, not a debate or argument topic. so please just say yes or no. After downloading the new Google Earth I noticed a little dot and then clicked on it and found it was a picture. I found out that if there was more then one picture, that 1 dot would have multiple dots coming off of it to tell you there were other pictures in that same spot. So here goes the pitch to Groundspeak Copy Goggles picture bubble and instead of pictures put geocachers names there. You can put it in the form of a search: Country, State/Province, County. When you pick the county, it will bring up a map of the county and that map will have an out line of all the towns. each town will have a dot in it and when you hover over that dot the names of all the geocachers that live in that town or zip code will then appear. NOT THERE HOME ADDRESS, JUST TOWN. When you click on there name it will then take you to there profile page where you can contact them if you so chose. With the current way of finding someone in my area, I need to look at the logs and then pick a name and see where a big percentage of there cache finds are and then deduce whether or not they live in the area. It takes forever to do it this way. This is just my idea of a better form of contacting one another other then the current form. P.S. This feature would be open to everyone and not just a P.M. feature Now the question for every one is this: would you like to see this idea or something like it done on Geocaching.com YES OR NO
  20. When I found a spot for my 3rd cache I was really worried that one of the locals was going to take the spot from me so I E-mailed my reviewer and asked about reserving the spot. I had the container but needed to get some papers for the container that helps describe the area. When I received an e-mail back from my reviewer it stated that it could not be placed on reserve unless i had a listing and a cache in place. Now that I am working on an event for Sept. 8th that requests cachers place a cache for one part of a game to be played for the event, I hope that my reviewer will be able to put a hold on a cache sight for them as long as it is in the reviewer notes that it is for the event and then list it the day after the event. I will edit this when I get an answer
  21. See them all the time out here in the Berkshires, A few years back before Geocaching, I ran across a momma and 2 babies + last years kick out. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Got to the nearest tree and pulled out my hatchet and stood still for about 1/2 hour while the 4 looked around and played. Momma knew I was near by but because a Bear's eye sight is not the best she could not tell what or where I was and the wind never changed direction.
  22. I think I might have solved that problem, or created a monster, not sure yet. I am getting ready to host an event picnic that will begin at 11:30am. But I through the idea around to some of the locals about a way to draw a decent size crowd. I'm going to do a F.t.F. game in the beginning. If you place a cache you get a cache, and you will be the only one that knows where it is until the end of the event. Still working on the fine details but it is getting good reviews from some of the locals that want to be granted a F.T.F.
  23. This log is self explanitory This log is in 3 parts. Why? Because it wouldn't fit in one log What a cache this one was. My very first first to find. Was it worth it? You decide. It all started the night of the 27th. I had just finished reading Ted the caver, (visit link) and was about to go to bed, when I decided to just check to see if there were any new listings. I have a radius of 10 miles from my zip code locked into my favorites folder, so I can just check and run. WHOA!!! 8 new ones. 2 are right down the road. After some moaning and butt kissing, the wife finally said that I could go and get one. Fortunately I had already downloaded the coordinates into the GPS. Now what do I need to be out in the woods at night? 3 small mag lights and 1 large one, 1 bright neon green jacket, 1 hunter orange hat, 1 walking stick, 1 GPS, 1 pen, and NO FEAR. Out the door I go it is now 12:10am, hope fkrol, Aquaman134 or Mushroomman have not decided to make a midnight run like myself. Arrive at the park at 12:15am and see that the park is closed from Dusk till Dawn. Hope that no cops show up and run me off or worse give me a ticket. I pull into the lot and see no cars are around and better yet no tire tracks in the fresh puddles. This might be my lucky F.T.F. cache. Lucky for me there is a bit of moon light out to help lead the way. I kept the big mag light off as not to attract any attention on my way in. 500, 400, 300, 200, 100, 50, almost there. Shoot, I need to cut through the wet grass. I'm here, now to start looking. Not here, maybe there, nope. Darn the moon is gone. What is that? I don't like the looks of what ever that is, better investigate. I start to look at what ever this container is and don't like what I see part 2 Now take into consideration I have just finished reading a story kinda like the Blair witch, and my nerves are on red alert being in the dark and all alone. There is no ID to tell me it is a geocache. Is this some sort of sickos sick idea of a Bobbie trap and what are the odds of it being near a geocache? and in the middle of the trail. I'm on full alert while checking this thing out, KERPLASH!!!! I jump 5 feet in the air. what was that? Talking? do I hear talking coming towards me? I listen for a few. Nothing must be the wind in the trees playing tricks on my ears. Investigate again, KERPLASH!!!! Now I am so freaked out it is not even funny. The hair on the back of my neck is standing straight up, NO LIE. I want to go and do this one in the morning when I can see. No you cry baby do this and get it over with, you are a man, get the find and then you can go home. I still do not like the looks of this container. I take off my jacket and put my wallet in the pocket along with my GPS, and place it about 30 feet away. Just in case it is not, what I hope it is. I carefully pick it up and inspect it, and start to pry the lid off. KERPLASH!!! I drop the container, look around for a few minutes, nothing. Pick it up again and pry the lid. Why is it making a hissing sound? Don't stop, keep going. I stop. I try shaking it hoping to hear that there is what sounds like a log book and a pen inside. Something is in there, try again. I don't like that hissing sound!!! POP!!! I fly backwards and land on my bumm and the contents fall all over the ground. part 3 It's the cache. I quietly laugh at my self for my nervousness. I start to check out the contents. Am I the first? Noooo!!!! there are wooden nickels in here that have other cachers logos on them. Who are these people and how did they beet me here? ARUGH!!! I am so disappointed. Fill out the log and still have a story to tell anyways. Wait a minute. I am the First To Find. Better make sure first. I am. I start to do a little F.T.F. dance. Signed the log and then got the heck out of there. I really didn't want to find out what made those noises in the water anyways. On a side note: I received 4 personal firsts on this cache. 1: First to Find, 2: first night cache, 3: First time I broke the law to find a cache, 4: the first one of these containers. I don't recommend trying to get the 3rd one. I did place the cache off to the side of the trail in the bushes and sent an e-mail to the Rocking the Goat at like 2 am to let them know that it was messed up and that I had no idea how it was supposed to be placed. I hope you can laugh at me, as well as I am still laughing at my self on this one. Thank you Rocking the Goat for the experience, and Mad Min for publishing it when you did. genegene
