  1. Interesting opinion for someone who only has 16 posts which is 16 more than the number of caches than he has found. What does he base his info on. Personally I think the Montana is a fine device and I wonder if I will ever need to buy another one. The large screen, profiles and other features meet my every need. If people are looking for information in these forums you might want to stick with actual cachers. In addition if this is a sock puppet for an experienced cacher why is he afraid to show. I appreciate your comments. However, not being a cacher doesn't mean I don't use a gps for other things. I'm an avid hunter and backpacker with over 35 years experience. Much of those using a gps. Sorry for expressing my opinion. I thought that was the purpose of this forum.
  2. If I were to do it all over again, I probably wouldn't have laid out the cash for my Montana. With all the bugs, betas and functions that don't work as they should, I would have purchased a DeLorme PN-60. I suppose I can sell the Montana and still get another gps'r with accessories and still have money left. Just my .02¢
  3. Which do you find the better of the two...Friction or Suction Cup? Trying to decide the best choice for my truck...
  4. I have a well kept DeLorme PN-40 I would sell. Feel free to conact me.
  5. The Energizer Ultimate Lithium 8x (non-rechargeable) is a great cold weather battery. Personally, I carry those, Enloops 2100 and Sanyo 2700 NiMh batteries. Just another option. +1 on the Maha C9000....great charger.
  6. Well.....since I don't geocache and instead hike, hunt, boat, fish, mtn. bike, etc......the Montana sounds pretty good to me. Thanks
  7. Cool.....so no need for a spare Li-ion battery, case, map package, car adapter, etc.? It's going to be cheaper than I thought.
  8. Just about to pull the trigger....shopping for the best online price. What are some "must have" accessories and extras to get? This will be my first Garmin GPSr.
  9. Just what I was looking for, ty. I also use the Enloops in another device. I wonder how 2800's would do...
  10. What have you guys been seeing with both the Li-Ion and AA? Also mention what type and brand of AA's. What settings are you using?
  11. Thanks to everyone who gave constructive feedback and opinions. I went to the local store today and did a hands on with the Montana. It has a good feel to it and a very nice, responsive screen. I guess my main concerns have to deal with the FW issues I keep reading about. Guess I may have to just pay to play and see how it shakes out.
  12. I've been looking at either an Oregon 450 or a Montana 600 for hiking and hunting. I've been reading about quite a few problems with the Montana. Have those pretty much been ironed out? Any cause for concern as far as dependability? I really need a full functioning unit in the back country. Thanks!
  13. I too am on backorder with J&R. I will be waiting for my PN-40 to arrive....but not patiently
  14. I placed an order online for a PN-40 Friday. Called today and the customer service rep said it was on back order, due in approx. a week. I know I could have ordered a Garmin 60CSx for less, but I decided to wait for the PN-40. Why should I settle.
  15. I got all the 'Pre-cuts' for the west region, less AK & HI on an 8 gig. with lots of room left over. We're talkin' WA, OR CA, NV, UT, & CO. Did I leave any body out? Haven't used it enough to determine if the 100X (good price) card makes much difference, initially it seems the same, but I elected to install only WA on the small bundled card, so conditions are different. Norm Norm, Do you have anything installed on the internal memory, or is everything on the SD card? Thanks Brian
  16. After my wife came home from Black Friday shopping, there was enough money left over for me to purchase a DeLorme PN-40. I got it at $285 on Amazon. My question is..... what size SD card do you recommend getting? Is one brand better than another? I hope it gets here for Christmas tree hunting next weekend.
  17. Same as any hunter....... One that works well under cover
  18. I'm an avid bowhunter and looking at these two for hunting purposes. I have no experience with either. I'm looking to you folks for guidance...... Please give me your opinions on which would fill my needs. Thanks!
