  1. FWIW, I sent an email to Garmin tonight reference this and this was their response: Hello Gary, The GPSMAP 64, Montana 610, 680 and eTrex Touch series devices come preloaded with 250,000 geocaches from Geocaching.com. If you do not want these geocaches, they can be removed. In order to remove the files you will need to delete them from the GGZ folder internally. Deleting the GGZ files will permanently remove the preloaded geocaches from the device. To delete* GGZ files from your mass storage device on a PC: Plug device into computer Click Window’s Start button Double-click (My) Computer Double-click Garmin device drive Double-click Garmin folder Double-click GGZ folder Select both the preload.ggz and preload.ver Press Delete on keyboard Confirm that selected file(s) wish to be deleted Right-Click on the Garmin device drive Select Eject Unplug device from computer To delete* GGZ files from your mass storage device on a MAC: Plug device into computer Navigate to Desktop Double-click Garmin device drive Click Garmin folder Click GGZ folder Select the preload.ggz and preload.ver Drag file(s) you wish to delete to Trash Click on Trash Click Finder Click Empty Trash Confirm you wish to permanently remove these items Drag Garmin device drive to Trash Unplug device from computer Your mass storage device will no longer display the data you have deleted. * NOTE: Use CAUTION when deleting. Do not delete unknown files outside of the GGZ folder; deleting the wrong files from your mass storage device can cause device failure. Thank you for choosing Garmin, Scott Product Support - Outdoor Team Garmin International http://support.garmin.com Going through the process I saw there was a third file, preload.sum. I asked about deleting it and they said to delete it as well. I deleted all theee files and whoila no more preloaded caches!!
  2. The color model is a m505, not a m515. I was unable to edit the thread title.
  3. I have a Palm m505 and m500 for sale. I no longer need them as I now have a smartphone with Cachemate on it. The Palm m505 is in color and comes with the device itself, stylus, and thumbpad. I can include a CD with the latest version of Palm Desktop if needed (burnt copy of downloaded file, not OEM CD). I am asking $25 plus shipping. The Palm m500 is in B&W and comes with the device itself, stylus, and a leather case. I can include a CD with the latest version of Palm Desktop if needed (burnt copy of downloaded file, not OEM CD). I am asking $15 plus shipping. I have a USB charging/sync docking station that I can include with either device for an additional $5. I have a USB charging/sync cable that I will include for no additional charge. I only have 1 of each. If you request the docking station I will automatically include the cable with the other device.
  4. I thought I had read it was your location in relation to the sats.
  5. I bought a Magellan GPS315 off of eBay. There is something rattling around inside and I suspect that it has to do with the antenna as it has problems acquiring and holding a signal. Does anyone know how to open the case? There are no screws so I'm guessing that it snaps together, but where?
  6. I am a LEO and I carry my Vista C with me when I'm on patrol just in case such an occassion should arise. Our dispatch has GIS software that will map the coordinates provided during a cellular 911 call. I am unsure whether they can manually enter coordinates.
  7. A website for LEO-cachers is an awesome idea! Cant wait to see it! I have some Ohio Deputy Sheriff patches. If anyone is interested in a trade drop me a PM or email.
  8. Hello!! I am a LEO from western Ohio. I've got 2 hides so far. I would be interested in some of your ideas for LEO related caches.
  9. I was getting the error and just tried turning off Norton Internet Security 2007 phishing filter and the error has gone away. I saw that one poster was able to get upgraded to Norton 2008 at no cost, how did you get them to do that?
  10. I've had the problem intermittently on a computer running Norton. Has anyone found any work arounds?
  11. I posted this idea in a thread in one of the other forums, but thought I'd post it here as well. What would be neat would be a way to have a master account for a family with sub-accounts for each family member. The family could log finds under the master name with the sub members who were present listed. The find would show up in each sub accounts "found list" but only show once on the cache listing, under the family's name. The sub accounts would still have the ability to list finds individually. Hopefully you can decipher my idea!!

The sub accounts would still have the ability to list finds individually. I bet this would take a ton of code to implement!!
  13. The Garmin handhelds usually come with a "base" map that shows interstates and large routes, but very little else. They are not useful for navigating roads. You need to buy maps if you want to use those units for navigating. Some of the new Colorados come with Topo maps preinstalled, but again the Topos are good for trails, not usually not very good for roads.
  14. Yup, exactly!! Thanks! I forgot about looking at the source code and going from that.
  15. Is it possible to make a picture show up on a cache description page without having to click on the link?
  16. Not sure about topo, but I know CN uses map data from NavTeq. You can go to NavTeqs website and report inaccuracies. Not sure how quickly they show up in updates, though.
  17. Guess I'll be the first LEO to post here! LOL I am a Deputy Sheriff in a rural county in Western Ohio. On my days off I am a substitute bus driver our local school district.
  18. My Vista C has the geocaching mode and I find it very useful. Mine does not mark as found unless I actually hit enter to mark it as such, even when using the Go To feature.
  19. Maybe it is just me, but if I was the original poster I would find the large text replies offensive. Looks to me like those posters were trying to be smart-donkeys!
  20. The current versions of CN are only allowed 1 unlock code. That was from Garmin. They will sell you a second code for $139.
  21. Around here the "park rangers" are Law Enforcement Officers.
  22. Did you realize that you can only unlock the software once? If it's been unlocked for your 60CSx, it won't unlock for your Colorado. You'll have to purchase new software.
