  1. Either way, take a look at this: www.miscjunk.org/forum/ne-quad-grid.zip Is that what you're looking for? It could be printed - you would need a large piece of paper - or can be loaded into any program that loads geo tiffs... I don't quite know what I am looking at.. none of my apps seem to recognize the extensions except for the jpeg.. and opening it shows the grid lines but no names.. an example, my home topo map name is Enfield Center.. USGS has maps of NH VT etc that show the quad names, but the site is unstable and brings my notebook to its knees.. it would be great if I could find, like some kind of a topo order sheet that shows the state outline with the quad grids and names.. some topo map sites have a list, but you need to know the name of the map quad you are ordering.. all I need is the name associated with its general location in the state map
  2. I use MacGPS Pro for topo viewing on my iBook and have the New England topo sectionals loaded. The problem is that all the maps are listed in USGS lat/long coding which gives me no clue as to what quad the numbers represent. in other words, 43xxxxxxx may represent quads between long 42 and 44 with the following numbers defining West to East positions.. but finding a specific quad is a lot of work. I can auto open maps based on GPGr position but not unless plugged via USB and receiving.. what I need is a base map of the NE states listing the quad names.. then in MacGPS Pro I can just find the quad map by name.. can anyone point me to a web site that has a printable map with quad names? I can't seem to find such an animal...
  3. MacGPS Pro can do this, and more, but it is NOT as friendly as GSAK.. Google it for the web site
  4. I am looking for a list of Quad names by state. My topo software for Mac lets the user search by Quad Name for 1/24000 maps which is much easier than using coords. I have gone to the USGS web site and used the new map which is very cool, but the site crashes my browser all the time just when I am getting to a map of quads displaying names but nothing else. Thanks
  5. For all you Mac OS 10 fans, what topo or mapping software available for Mac or Mac/PC do you favor? I have a Garmin 60 CSX and use a PC and Garmin North America detailed software but I would like to use my iBook for some of what the Garmin software does.. I know I cannot send the maps to the GPS but I could route plan and waypoint mark and just have more fun on the Mac.. maybe?? Or should I save my money and stay with the PC software
  6. Should I consider purchasing Topo maps? Should they be loadable into my new Garmin (Garmin Topo) or National Geographic or James Associates Topo for Mac (I have both a PC and Mac Laptop) or plain old USGS hard copy Topos and a good compass along with the electronic compass my GPS provides? As a novice, it would seem that the GPS will work out of the box and I need to figure out the approach (trail head) or do I really need both topos (for trail work) and what software came with the GPS (Garmin 60 csx)
