  1. As of December 31st 2004 this race will officially be over, the end cache will remain in existence for any racers that wish to continue on their present course. The entire CannonBall Run Race will be turned over to Strikeforce1 (aka CannonBall Cop) at that time, he will be running everything for that point on. Trophies and awards will be mailed out after the first of the year. I want to thank everyone who participated in the first two races, either by entering a TB or handling the racers along the way, it's certainly been a learning experience all along the way!
  2. Backtracking is complete for both Vee-Dub and Dragonflyer 12, Vee-Dub is the official winner of the 2nd Annual CannonBall Run TB Race! DragonFlyer 12 is awarded 2nd place! Congradulation to both! Who is the odds on favorite to claim 3rd place?
  3. Unofficial Winner of the 2nd Annual CannonBall Run TB Race is....... Vee-Dub the Tortoise Bug!!!! entered by defending champions Team GeoDillo, and dropped off at Winners Circle at 2000 hrs EST 07/09/04 by OurWoods. Now comes the tedious process of backtracking this bugs movements and verifing it's logs to make this official. Meanwhile... Congradulations!
  4. The Winners Circle Cache which is the finish line for the 2nd Annual CannonBall Run was listed as an Event because of the rules governing the logging of a find. The ONLY way to log a find at that particular cache is to place a CannonBall Run TB in it! No other bugs allowed! Since the field is limited to 78 existing racers I felt that an Event cache was closer to the truth... besides I was thinking of having a party later in the fall and inviting all those cachers and their families that actually placed a CBR TB into Winners Circle....hence an event.
  5. Nothing like sitting on top of them Team Geodillo!!!! As of a couple minutes ago the 2nd Annual CannonBall Run TB Race did indeed start! Release point was Deja Vu All Over Again in Sacramento CA ( GCJ263 ), their destination is Winners Circle in Bennington, NY ( GCJ271 ). Keep in mind we promised you a cross country race... some of you assumed that it would be from NY to CA.... those of you who did might want to consider contacting the first cacher that grabs your bug and get them to change your instruction cards! Good Luck to all! BTW I am the owner of the final cache, anyone wishing to make arrangements to have their TBs shipped home later can contact me directly through GC.com
  6. Just occured to me that I never showed you folks the "Special Edition" CannonBall Run Tags that were added to each of your travelbugs. CannonBall Tag
  7. Actually the real problem is here wonder where they were headed?
  8. Clue to the Starting Coords of the 2nd Annual CannonBall Run TB Race located HERE
  9. I would be happy to host a cache for this idea, but would probably not enter as I have enough TBs to watch over as it is. If this is acceptable count in one cache for Upstate NY.
  10. Let me toss in my two cents here too. First off, don't worry about stepping on toes.. mine are pretty calloused and thick (like my head). Second any rule you make that says that an owner is disqualified if they handle one of the bugs in the race is absolutely unenforcable, we found this out on the 1st Cannonball Run, there was an instance where I absolutely know that an individual moved His?her own bug but it was logged under a sock puppet account and we could do nothing about it. Third, any rule you make, someone will do their best to find a way around it! Hope some of this helps, good luck with your race!
  11. Ah Yoda Doe...ye of little faith.... Not only is the CannonBall Run TB Transporter a moving cache, it is also a Travel Bug (note the tag in the picture). It is trackable, and it is verifiable as to the contents at any particular stop in it's journey, the unfortunate down side is that it will all have to be done manually at this time (bummer for me), if it proves to be too much work then the cache part will be archived and the bug part allowed to continue on in the race.
  12. Entry for the 2nd Annual CannonBall Run TB Race is now officailly closed. We have 78 entries this year, all of which have been grabbed to the CannonBall Run User account. If you have not received an e-mail telling you this it means that your TB did not arrive before the required date/time. Starting and endcaches are in place and will be revealed at the start of the race. Watch for updates in this thread as to the movements of your bugs!
  13. Check out this entry: GC7572 of course it is not eligble to win, but it should be interesting none the less.
  14. Will the owner of the Hampton Roads Virginia WELCOME WAGON TB please activate your bug.
  15. Just a reminder to everyone, today is the last day for racers to be RECEIVED for the 2nd Annual CannonBall Run TB Race. I am currently holding 72 racers at this point (9:00 AM EST) and will receive my mail around 1:00pm today, UPS and FedEx are usually afternoon deliveries here so don't despair just yet if you haven't received your e-mail notice!
  16. The CannonBall Run Race Tag has the race logo and the website info on it, no instruction of any kind. You will still need to add a tag of your own if you wish to give specific instructions.
  17. Green Achers: there is no four wheel requirement. Motorized, ground based, wheeled vehicles are what is required. A Motorcycle certainly fits this description. Miss Jenn: Currently holding 21 vehicles, with at least ten more known on the way, if last years race is any indication we will have a flood of last minute entries....
  18. Will the owner of the BIG GREEN MEAN MACHINE please activate your TB!
  19. The trophy(s) for last years winners were sent out several days ago, unfortunately I didn't think to take pics of them before mailing them out, perhaps the winners would post a shot of them with the winning TB?? The rest of the awards will be ready soon, imagine the work involved in manually backtarcking each racer and figuring out who gets the award for which category! I'm pushing forward with getting these done as well as looking for a sponsor for this years race and creating the CannonBall Run Tags as well as logging in all the entrants for this years event.... I promise the awards will be in the mail this week!
  20. Congradulations to Roach Coach on obtaining Pole Position for this years race!
  21. Q and A time again. Weasel: Technically, yes... it fits all the rules. dwgogo: 1) The racers will know where the endcache is the day that their TBs are release for the start of the race, unless some enterprising genius among them searches throughout the country and manages to locate it ahead of time. 2) You can put any information cards on your entry that you wish, I certainly would not refuse a bug entry on that basis. The original rules posting suggests that you refer people to the race website in fact. MarcB: only if you afix it permanently to a motorized groundbased wheeled vehicle, such as a APC or truck, etc. brad.32: you win the "Teacher's Pet Award" !
  22. YodaDoe, Radio Flyer, chariot, soapbox racer, BMX bike and skateboard would be ruled out as they have no engines, yes I admit they all do race, but certainly not cross-country. The tank idea I would rule out as it is a tracked vehicle not technically wheeled, however an APC would definately fit the bill in all catagories. Once again I refer you to the CannonBall Run Movie.
  23. Let me try and shed some light on the subject of what is deemed an acceptable entry for this race. First and foremost it must be a wheeled vehicle. (pretty self explanatory) Secondly it must be ground based. ( no jets, planes, helicopters, etc) The intent is to stay as close as possible to the real CannonBall Run (as in the movie). This would mean that cars, trucks, motocycles, and the like would be acceptable where a train, trolley car, subway car, or boat would NOT be. We are not such sticklers that the wheels must roll but we do expect the TB to be a three demensional vehicle and not a picture of one. This still gives you plenty of leeway in creating your own unique TB(s), feel free to add drivers to your vehicles, customize your bugs with unique paint jobs, disguise them as other types of vehicles... just rent the movie and watch it, you'll get a feel for what we are after. BTW, the coveted Pole Position is still up for grabs, it is awarded to the first TB to arrive in the NYGO mailbox.
