  1. yikes, I thought I was on another DR thread, so I just duplicated an earlier post.
  2. My Norton software now checks for update once an hour. No problems here (yet), but at work, oh geez............some people just don't get it.
  3. All 4 of mine, but I am going to be using the stencils now, as sometimes the stickers don't stick well.
  4. There is one similar to that - a disk with a dot in the center, although this one has some stampings in it. It is a few hundred feet away from an NGS disk that I found, protected by its own guardrail, and is mentioned in the NGS data sheet for their mark. It is a city disk. It is on a square mound and has line-of-sight to the East, whereas the NGS disk is blocked by the mound and has line-of-sight to the West.
  5. Having a Meridian Color, I like having the backlight come on. I think Magellan/Thales needs to use different options for the different GPSrs since it seems most non-color units don't like it. They could do away with the excessive beeping. 5 seconds is more than enough. I find that ALL setting reset when I do: GOTO -> Stop Routing, except the 250 proximity alarm. Not a deal killer but somewhat annoying. Every now and then it does not resume North Up map orientation, but that is seldom. Magellan needs to woirk a few bugs out, but will they know about them? Is someone communicating to them? I do like the fact that it resumes routing even after I miss a turn and eventually get back on the route, even though I may have bypassed several turns. I am happy with DR. I could be even happier, though.
  6. My worst caching day is any day I try This Cache
  7. Search Canadian and other sites for VOMP (Vest OF Many Pockets). The link I had is now dead. They look less like fishing/survival/photographer's vests. More like what someone would wear when trooping through the fields in Ireland or England......
  8. If you use Spinner and plucker instead, you can get pictures on your Palm. I don't know anything about cachemate.
  9. What he said. Please be aware that EasyGPS (without erial photos and maps) is free and usefull. But I found the cost of ExpertGPS to be well worth it. You can select which caches you want to upload from a map or photo of an area you want to visit.
  10. This Night Cache description has a good intro to night caching and how it all works. (If I do say so myself. )
  11. My current nemesis - I've logged 3 DNFs now. And it calls to me.......
  12. What hider in their right mind would go to claim the cache after the NPS starts tossing around the term "illegal." It may not hold up in court, but I would still hate to be arrested. I believe something like that has happened or was at least attempted.
  13. Aliens - using the radio receiver to find the colonists, and then the little girl........
  14. Team Charles (cspitz) is 6 and had hidden a cache on his own.
  15. In direct sunlight, I don't even need the backlight. The sun makes it look great. I even turn the backlight off. (I have it on a 30 second timer) When not in direct sunlight, but you hve high ambient light, it can get difficult to see. i.e. when inside a car and the GPS is on the dash and it is very bright outside. However, I wouldn't trade that color for much else on the market today. be sure to upgrade to firmware version 5.12. They did wonderful things with the color. Also, DirectRoute is excellent.
  16. Here is a funny thing: gpx2html passed along the bad HTML and Plucker hated it, and the page didn;t load. I downloaded Spinner and tried it. It also made a page, but it was somehow a tad different and Plucker DID like it. Aaaargh... Webscouter, I didn't notice it until we were on the way out the door this morning. I've found that illegal color names tnd to kill a Plucker or gpx2html page quickly. I'll have to look into cachemate, now that my paperless "system" is unreliable. Robertlipe - I don't notice the broken pages until I am out in the field. I think it would be really nice if Jeremy added an HTML "checker" for when you submit a cache page, but afer the javascript elimination, any sort of HTML "policing" will tick off a bunch of folks.
  17. Yup. We (actually, BettyD) did 2 caches after that breakfast. I found the first, under a rock, under the snow. Disguising the tracks and stuff is half the fun.

    Gpx Error

For Jeremy, I was going to a cache today, when I noticed that the page was not on my Palm Pilot, even though the link was. Waypoint: GCGEF3 To make a long story short, this cache page has a BODY tag in the description, which did not receive a closing ">" or > in the GPX file. Several lines from the cache page (view source): <P><span id="ShortDescription"><font color="gold">>This cache is for the trade of the State Quarters.</font><br></span></P> <P> <BLOCKQUOTE><span id="LongDescription"><BODY BACKGROUND="http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/79458_200.jpg"><br> From the GPS file: <Groundspeak:short_description html="True"><font color=gold>>This cache is for the trade of the State Quarters.</font><br></Groundspeak:short_description> <Groundspeak:long_description html="True"><BODY BACKGROUND="http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/79458_200.jpg"</font><br> Was this caused by the >> in the font tag: <font color="gold">> Is there any way to either make the GPX emitter deal with bad HTML or flag the cache owner when they enter bad HTML in the cache page? (Luckily, we went to a nearby cache, dug through 10 inches of snow and found that cache instead.) ----------------------------------- gpx2html created the mini-HTML page, but Plucker hated it and didn't send it to my Palm Pilot. This is not the first time bad HTML didn't make it to my Palm device.
  19. Since when? He said "in some users tag line". That part is not allowed.
  20. Get a Color display. No problem here with the Meridian Color and DirectRoute.
  21. They don't allow those any more. BTW - they were from another site where folks had to enter their stats. It wasn't automatic. Very few people did it, and some exagerated their finds/hides.
  22. A pre-snow, post snow find - you can see the cache in the picture
  23. Yeah, me too...... still, compared to aviation, space travel has been less hazardous... I was living in Hawaii when Neil stepped on the moon. I didn't have to stay up late to see it.
  24. 6.2 miles - fairly recent and I have gone out that direction recently, I planned it for this weekend, but the storm is coming, or so they say. The next couple (7.2, 7.4, and so on) are 1/1 I am saving to go with my family. The first "real" unfound caches for me are around 10 - 15 miles.
