  1. Edited to remove - off topic thoughts and experiences.
  2. No. It needs to be converted into an MDB file suitable for installin on a Palm PDA. You can use gpx2html to convert GPX files into HTML on your PC (I used GSAK to do the same). You can then use Plucker to create the MDB file that installs you your Palm. Then use the Plucker Palm application to view cache files. Alternately, you can use GSAK to convert GPX to Cachemate files, then use Cachemate on the Palm to view web pages and make log entries. And there are other ways....
  3. If you want to slow down a lot, just keep raising the price.
  4. Say it isn't so I understand about the preassures when something like this takes off. At least I GOT MINE ! I just hope it never breaks. Can you explain your numbering scheme? I think mine is B2.
  5. I've had the Color since it came out, and highly recommend it for driving, boating, and caching. In direct sunlight, you can have the backlight off and still see it great. In less than direct light, you need the backlight. I have mine set so that when it is in a holder, with external power, the light stays on, but when caching the light timer is 30-seconds. I look at the GPS then walk for a while, then touch any button to bring the light on and look again. I use rechargeabler batteries, and one set will last for 10-14 hours this way. (I always carry a few sets of spare batteries.) Who cares about eating batteries when using rechargeables? The only time I have a hard time with the screen is when it is mounted on the dash, and VERY BRIGHT sunlight is all around, but not on the screen itself. (The unit is "backlit" in photo terms.) then the screen is difficult. Otherwise it is fine. I use topo (rarely) and DirectRoute mostly. The new maps are great, and the only 2 times I was led astray was due to coinstruction from this year.
  6. Yes, but it will then not set up the file for an install, and then you have to use the install tool to set it up for install. The selection checkbox is on the GSAK panel when you tell it to export the file to cachemate.
  7. I have a 3 D-cell flashlight for caves and such, but I always have a small LED light in my pocket, made by ARC. It is REALLY bright and I use it all the time. It is only a couple of inches long, but is a good inch in diameter. I use it to search hollow logs, in rock crevices, when the lights go out, etc. The lithium cells last forever. I bought a set of 5 spares and am still using the one the light came with. And I bought an adapter to use 2 AA just in case. I heartily recommend a good quality LED. Expensive but very worth it.

  9. I am not so creative, so I've used buttons from bumblebuttons.com and calendar cards from wundercards.com (Both are fellow cachers). Originally, I was using old silver dollars and silver half dollars in 2x2 holders with my name, but that was VERY expensive. Somewhere around 200+ dollars.
  10. How can one tell that geocaching caused the trail. Last Friday, I was FTF on a cache that had "social trails" all over, yet I was the first cacher there. In fact, the cache was just off one of those trails. Of course, there were dear and rabbits and people rode horses through the area, so maybe some of these trails blamed on cachers we caused by non-cachers or animals. Who woulda thunk it?
  11. Use Plucker to grab the datasheets (using a "search" from gc.com) and it will build a file for your palm.
  12. You'll melt tho polyester shell. Besides, iron-ons eventually peel. If you cannot stich it on, and you don't know anyone who will help, take it to a full service dry cleaner and they can sew it on for a price.
  13. You'll find the heavier-duty inverters (400 watt +) use battery clamps and not the 12-V plug
  14. You can't log it at gc.com, they only have NGS markers in the database. Even a lot of USGS markers are not there. BTW - it is Denver Water Department, unless the name changed since I left Denver.
  15. Bought a boat in March, so I spend my weekends trying to get my money's worth. (I'tll never happen, but I have to try.) I'll end up a winter cacher, but that is indoor painting and redecorating time. I need to win the lottery and retire.
  16. I just returned from a 2 month hiatus in caching. The last cache was a puzzle multi where the hider goofed on the web page and sent me into a dense patch of ticks and poison ivy. In the weeks it took me to heal, and remove the final embedded ticks, I realized that all the new caches in my area were micros, or stuck in dense brush. I just decided to give it a break until I wanted to come back. So today I did 2 new ones for lunch. Wouldn't you know it, but the first one was a micro [] But, I'm back!
  17. I just had a thought: Nothing will happen at the DNC. I think the "bad guys" would be more likely to hit the Repubicans, instead. I would think they would like Kerry. My bad.....
  18. TotemLake, I don't really want to argue. I was just wondering how this would affect Boston cachers. In my earlier post I was talking "accident" and not trigger happy. When I was "in the business" an officer tripped and involuntarily shot another person. He was not "triggerhappy", just had bad luck and made a poor decision. The officer was raked over the coals and quit and went to therapy for years. (I don't know if he ever got sued.) The dead person stayed dead. The government is expecting something bad to happen at the DNC, so with tensions very high, bad things happen. It is not right, not fair, but it is life. Sorry if this offends. I'll give y'all a break, and take the boat to the lake. (And I won't complain a week from today, when y'all ridicule me because nothing untoward happened to any innocent people.) [Edited to clean up any inflamatory words - DJ]
  19. Yup. For many reasons, including caches we never intend to do, a lot of us have asked for an "ignore" list. Patience......
  20. My company has an office in Boston. Amongst other things, delivieries are cancelled. Anything that could carry a bomb or chical or bio weapon is going to be suspect. In my book, that means all bags, backpacks, boxes, lunchpails, tupperware, and ammo cans. It is not about giving up freedoms. It is about avoiding trouble. (Heaven help you if you have outstanding parking tickets and do some caching there next week.)
  21. If you lived. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.
  22. The word I am getting is that the authorities are getting VERY nervous about the DNC in Boston next week. Any activity remotely "suspicious" is going to bring the world down upon a person. And getting shot by mistake hurts just as much as on purpose. A good week to get the house chores done, I'll bet. Anyone planning any Boston caching (especially urban caching) next week? [Edited for typos - DJ]
  23. Of course Jeremy is evil. He is providing a service. Hes is making some money. He is having fun. Having the last 2 at the same time is a sure indication of Evil. It is just plain wrong. Remember what Catbert says: "Having fun at your job is just like stealing from the company."
