  1. Thanks for the welcome everyone! I've posted to the police thread, can't believe I'd be the first to have that happen to them but that's my luck. By the way I'm up to 5 finds! Woo Hoo
  2. A couple of days ago I was stopped by a Police Officer after looking for the cache for only 5 minutes. Incredibly, this was my first time ever geocaching! I was more than a little nervous when I lifted my head to see a cruiser about ten feet from me . I didn't even hear him pull up to me, must've been concentrated on the find I suppose. The tread to that experience is here. I wish I had some pamphlets to enhance my credibility but I just wanted to try this out as soon as I got my GPSr. He ran my ID and gave me some strange looks, asked a couple of questions, then left but I was wondering if this new sport I was trying was gonna get me a fine. I'm in college and majoring in aeronautics. ANY blemish on my record would seriously limit my chances of being hired by a major airline. Luckily, no problems though and 2 days later I'm up to 5 finds!
  3. Hey all. I did a search for this but it just came up with all the questions/problems associated with CN 8 NT so I'm hoping to get some more info. I know you can buy City Navigator from Garmin for about $135ish but is there another (online) retailer that is selling this software for cheaper than that? It seems a little harder to find CN software than GPSr's. My local retailers are gouging me for around $200ish. I found a site called provantage.com selling CN 8 NT for $102 but they're based in Ohio, so with sales tax and shipping it's around $125. I figure you guys would be in the know.... I'm not interested in checking ebay either because I don't trust that the software I'll be getting isn't pirated or hasn't been used on other GPSr's. From the research I've done I also assume I can use this software??? I have a Venture CX and pretty sure I can put it on the 1g micro sd I just ordered online right? By the way... I know this has been mentioned somewhere else but that kingston 1 gb microsd I got for $0.97 after the google checkout option on meritline.com Basemap just isn't cutting it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks ~ksuaviator
  4. I just took a flight today with my venture cx on an ifr flight in a cessna 172. I'm right around the 41st parallel and have no problems. I was practicing approaches into a regional airport but started from 2000 agl on the ils. Went down to about 250 agl on the option and back to the vor on the missed at 2000agl. Then did a circle to land and entered the pattern at around 800agl no problems at all around the 41st parallel. if you tell me how to get the track from my venture cx on to this forum, i'll post it, it's saved on my garmin P.S. ~ Forgot to mention... I don't know where you're located but the washington ADIZ consumes some of the 39th parallel. Just a thought
  5. Found my first today with my brand new venture cx. I went out looking for 4 caches but only ended up finding 1. It was Awesome though! After sitting around for about 10 minutes, I started thinking much differently than when I first arrived. I started thinking "what would I do if I was hiding something in this area?" It worked. Plus, the find was in an empty park and upon entering I saw 5 deer staring at me wondering what I was up to. I love nature but don't really get to experience it much since I live in the city. I figure the other hides I was looking for may have been covered up by snow??? There's no way to check the status of the cache besides looking at when it was last found is there? Oh also, the first cache I tried to find I was searching for around 10 min digging through the snow when I look up to see a police officer! Caught me off guard at first. After running my ID he told the dispatcher I was out playing "hide and seek" and asked for the name of the website. Maybe he'll convert. I should've printed off some of those handy pamphlets but I wanted to try out the new GPS before dark. Live and Learn. Such a great sport. Fitness for Free - Can't beat it. I can see a caching addiction in my near future...
