  1. I've gotta put in my personal endorsement for 'Edisons Dark Rock Cache'. I did it today (see log for details and pics!) and it was awesome. Even if you go the wrong way at first and come out frustrated, as I did, you can see your error quickly and you just get to spend some extra time underground. And while you're there, you can pick up the (relatively easy) earthcache by taking your picture with the Edison monument and hunting for magnetic rocks as you walk among the ruins of the mining area.
  2. Wow, that's a lot of ammo cans. I don't suppose anyone can recommend a good supplier near Mahwah?
  3. Heh. Approval is all in the wording. And you're right, the diner's home fries are pretty wild. I heartily endorse the French toast as well. Also, any ideas pertaining to the hiking route are welcome; I've got some nebulous ideas but I'd love to see what everyone thinks. Hopefully nature will cooperate and the leaves'll turn in time to give us some great views. It's got potential.
  4. Hi again! If any of you forum denizens haven't seen already, this event is now active! You're all cordially invited for breakfast at the Stateline Diner on Rt. 17 at 9:30am and a hike in the Ramapo reservation at 11:00am. Hope to see you there!
  5. ...and with a pair of FTFs to boot. Well done! Hope to see you out there again sometime this fall.
  6. I think only pirate captains were allowed to say "aaargh maties", but "avast" was probably like calling shotgun in modern times: first person to board a ship being plundered got to say it. Next time I see some pirates, I'll ask them.
  7. In that case we can call it a group hike, and perhaps start or finish up with a good meal at Mahwah Bar and Grill, where we had an event last spring that attracted a bunch of local cachers. As for the route, I know the trails better on the east side of the Macmillan Reservoir, and I know there are some excellent vistas for leaf-spotting there; but I was also considering all or part of BrianSnat's seven-cache route on the west side: 1-GCKHZ2 2-GCK9PB 3-GCM319 4-GCK88C 5-GCK6DM 6-GCJRYV 7-GCK4A9. Of course it can be modified as needed, and we still have over two months to think about it before the leaves turn.
  8. Hello all! Whilst idly pondering today, I thought it might be nice to organize a hike in the Ramapo Reservation when the leaves turn this fall. The res. is home to at least twenty caches, and it wouldn't be much trouble to chart a hiking loop a few hours long that would incorporate a decent portion of them. If you've been procrastinating on some of the farther caches, a group hike under the gorgeous autumn scenery would be a great way to get out, have a good time, and do some quality caching. I was thinking sometime around the weekend of October 13th/14th, around which the foliage usually peaks. Of course, you can't have a group gathering without a group, so your input is encouraged.
  9. Hey, congrats! Just broke the mark myself. Way to go, and cache on!
  10. Curses, I won't be able to make it. The College doesn't hold its move-in until the following Tuesday, so you won't have Ramapo traffic on 202 to contend with. Happy caching, all!
