  4. Except I would rethink the idea of having it on a public holiday. (ie. Memorial Day) Most people jump at the opportunity to do some traveling on those long weekends and may result in poor attendance. I suggest that we set a time of at least 6 weeks in advance to give people some fair warning.

Anyone out there have a small geocaching sticker to sell me??

Just wondering if you have any old friends, who are Geocachers there that you are in touch with. Among the cities near my lines are Bloemfontein, Bisho, Queenstown, Bethlehem, Kurman and Vereenigingn. Hmmm. Tricky.... I just know geocachers from the Cape Town area and none of those cities are near there. I suggest you go to the South African forum and Peter Scholtz and Co. will help you Us South Africans are a helpful bunch [This message was edited by The Artful Dodger on March 20, 2002 at 06:59 PM.]

  16. quote:Originally posted by DenaliNW: My wife doesn't much enjoy the geocaching, but she loves scouring the neighborhood for garage sales. She gets her bargains on stuff we don't need, I get some caching in . . . I like it. Perhaps feed into your GPS the coordinates of all the houses in your area that are holding garage sales and let your wife loose..... (There are online programs that give you the coordinates for an address)

I know the Catskills quite well and would be happy to join you and any other Geocachers on an overnighter. Hey BrianSnat! Yep, it was you who reminded me about the Catskills. I might just take you up on that overnight offer - the more the merrier. Let's talk more as Spring approaches... Any other geocachers out there interested in a weekend backpacking trip sometime in Spring/Summer?

  22. Hi all THis upcoming Spring/Summer I intend to do a lot of weekend/long-weekend backpacking and hiking(and geocaching, of course ) . Since I am relatively new to the NorthEast NJ area, does anyone have some good recommedations of some good trails? I have purchased some maps of the Delaware Water Gap area and the Catskills. Do you have a favorite? A geocacher I met on the trails highly recommended the Catskills. Perhaps a few geocachers could be enticed to make a good weekend of it outdoors.... Thanks AD p.s. I have my second Grand Canyon backpacking trip all booked - can't wait for that one!

  24. quote:Originally posted by DxChallenged: So ArtfulD, I've been wondering about this since I read your post at 2am........which is better NJ or South Africa? Hi Debbie I try and go back to SA once a year to visit family and friends but that might slow down or stop as my only sibling and her family are immigrating to New Zealand. My Mom will join her in a few years. South Africa has the best, sunny weather in the world bar none (my opinion ) which I miss the most. The land is beautiful and some of the people friendly. Its really worth it for US tourists to visit there. Good value for money. Great food, scenic open spaces etc. Apart from that, crime is very high! Standards have been lowered, material things are very expensive. Education is becoming sub-standard and people live in electrified barbed wire fortresses (no lie!) Very simple things you take for granted (like letting your children walk in the park) are no longer viable without being afraid of being mugged etc. etc. One of the most important things a parent can teach their children is just how great they have it here in the good old US of A!
