  1. I purchased my 60cs from GPSExplorer for $329 after $100 rebate. Bought it on 4-18 and received it on 4-23. I checked with Garmin about the rebates and was told that a copy of the confirmation page was OK. So now we wait for the return of the $100. Unit is fantastic compared to my old Vista. I get a signal inside my house now and can't with the Vista. Woohoo. Autorouting rules and the color screen sure is perty. The 56mb of memory allowed me to D/L all of NJ and parts of eastern PA and some of NYC. Now all I need to put on units are my waypoints and routes. Slight problems with Metroguide ver 6, but I decided to go back to Metroguide USA ver 3 and see if this is any better. Totally pleased with purchase. eagleNJ1
  2. Sorry about that. Previous post should have read as Vista C, not the old monochrome-screened Vista. Sorry for the confusion. eagleNJ1
  3. IMHO. I have used the origonal Vista with all the upgrades and have found it very useful. But, I am itching to spend my tax refund and decided to order the GPSMAP 60cs to at GPSExplorer and I'll tell you why. The 60cs has more memory for maps(56mb vs. 24), color screen, optional patch antena, auto routing, and the kicker----GPSExplorer has it for only $329 after $100 rebate and no tax and free shipping. So while I like the Vista, I can't wait to try out the 60cs unit. Your tests were also a big help in my decision, thanks. The cheapest I could find the Vista was $315, so for $15 more, I decided on the 60cs. eagleNJ1

  8. I just checked out Garmin's site and I think Santa is going to bring me their GPSMAP 60CS next year for Christmas 2004. Color display Electronic compass Altimeter GPS caching friendly Everything I always wanted @ twice the price I want to pay. lol Adding it to my wishlist now.
  9. I own a Garmin and a Magellan unit (Vista and Meridian). From a hardware standpoint, I find both units to be equally acceptable. That's where the equality ends. The software from Garmin (Mapsource) is a lot more user friendly. Turn-by turn directions can be downloaded to your unit. Magellan (Mapsend) doesn't allow TBT directions. They use line of sight (straight line from point to point), which is useless if you are trying to go somewhere. Garmin allows you to print TBT directions which gives a hard copy to look at while driving. And lastly, the road and points of interest database in the Garmin software seems to be more up to date. For basic caching, where road maps and directions are not needed, either unit will do. If you want to find out how to get near the cache area (directions), Garmin is absolutely the way to go. These views are only given from my usage with both companies and should be taken with a grain of salt. Some people swear by Magellan and this is OK, but my next unit (color screen) is going to be a Garmin. Hope this helped. EagleNJ1
