  1. I would be in for 5 or 6, numbered. Don't care if it is trackable.
  2. The coin is beautiful! Thank you everyone for all of the hard work on this. I'm ready to order as soon as the order form shows up!
  3. I think a loose knit organization would be good. A calendar, some PR info, where to get help for newbies, etc. as WoW suggested would be useful. Perhaps, SOME of what the MIGO site does could be replicated. And at some point it might be useful to consider adding forums for discussions. Instead of one continuous thread like this one, the different topics under discussion would have their own threads. It is much easier to go back and find a discussion or previous information. You can't do everything at once, but start out with a few key, important items and then add (or subtract) as you go. You might have folks rank what they would like to see most. I think that it would be very useful to have a local group with a web site.
  4. Because the cachers here are actually out caching as opposed to sitting at their computers building web sites You know, I think there is a lot of truth to that! Must be those cold winters.... I'm not sure the cold weather actually slows them down too much, just as the rain here doesn't slow us down (much). I've been back in Michigan in the winter and like caching then. Tracks in the snow (when there is snow) are a big help. The cold doesn't bother me much.
  5. A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Marky and Joani on their 4,000 th cache today! [] Way to go!
  6. RE: Greater Palm Springs Geocache Event OK, FullOn, I owe you and your group an apology. I guess that I was overwhelmed by the 140 caches going live in one place at one time. And I will take your word for it that they weren’t lampposts. It sounds like a lot of thought went into the cache placements. The cache page says, “Guided cache hunts for the Pushawalla Power Path, etc.” That sounded like a tour to me. If this were to help newbie’s learn how to find caches, it would have been good to actually state that was what the purpose was. That wasn’t clear to me and possibly not to others. I don’t doubt that many cachers put a lot of time and effort in the event. At the events I have been to, I’ve found that to be the case here as well. And we certainly all appreciate their efforts. That seems to be true of cachers everywhere. I have really enjoyed all the local events I have been able to attend. The best part was getting to talk to all the cachers that I never meet on the trail, not the caches that became available. From reading some of the event comments, it sounds like everyone had a really good time at a great event. If I am ever in Southern California when you have an event, I will try and make it. If you are ever up here, hunt me up and I’ll buy you a drink. Next time I’ll keep my mouth shut and see what happens first. Again my apologies.
  7. I guess the folks in the Palm Springs Area need an easy way to pad their numbers. I think that some will do things correctly, but how many won't? They are giving "TOURS" [aka "guided cache hunts] to some of the caches!!!!!! I'm sorry, but this event doesn't seem to be in the right spirit of geocaching. Just my two geocoins worth.
  8. The SJ Meercury News today (3/1/05) has an interesting article on the front of the Valley ( section. It discusses a Mountain View store, Global Beads. Interesting. If you don't know what I am talking about check the cache list for GeoBeads #1, a great series.
  9. Marky, I have a couple of TB's that want to go to England and Scotland. I'll watch for the post on the location. Thanks.
  10. Kealia, I don't have any of your shotglasses. Can I get one of your old style, unumbered ones?
  11. Marky, The sigitem registry for tracking is a great idea! I have just started using a sig item with a tracking number. I didn't think that I would be able to ever track them but wanted to put something out there. You have the perfect solution! Put me down for a listing. My sig items will probably be the rariest ones since I'm not exactly a power cacher like the rest of you.
  12. Working with local agencies to gather support for geocachers has been a topic of discussion with other organizations. The Michigan Geocaching Organization has at least one recent thread going on this topic, http://www.mi-geocaching.org/modules.php?n...iewtopic&t=2742 Their main page http://www.mi-geocaching.org/index.php also has some presentations that were used to explain geocaching to a local reginal parks authority. The two presentations are a short distance down the page at the "MRPA Delegates! Get Our MRPA Conference Information Here!" heading. Perhaps, this could be of use in our efforts.
  13. GeoBrowns, that's a great idea. If a cacher gets too many ignores, he's archived! Thanks, bullit. It's interesting that you got the significant other pasta rollers. You do know that they can be used with polymer clay as WOW showed. Is that your plan? And for the Kitchen Aid no less. I also noticed that I wasn't in the top bay area cachers based on caching rate. If you do a listing of the bottom dozen, I should be there since I am probably at a half cache per day.
  14. There used to be one in Michigan called Birmingham Choo Choo (GC42A6). It was located within spittin' distance of the Amtrak tracks. Neverbug, Retlawfan, and I found it while visiting Michigan on a cold winter's night during a snowstorm. It had a half gallon jar filled with lots of goodies and has since been vandalized. Too bad. You can read the archive, however, and the pictures still load. Bughound
  15. CrimsonWrath, You may just have to wait this one out. javascript:add_smilie(%22:mellow:%22) I was getting notifications for Jeep TB that were "nearby" but some were on the otherside of the local mountains. However, this evening I received one that said a Jeep TB was placed in a cache about 15 minutes from me. I drove over to the cache Got Bugs and retrieved the Jeep TB. I would suggest that you just open the e-mail and check the distance. Then discard the ones that aren't close. A bit of a pain, but it finally paid off for me. Good luck. javascript:emoticon('')
  16. I can post a list with lat/long of a number of benchmarks at Disneyland or just a general description of where they are located. I found these a couple of years ago and have posted them a couple of times in discussion topics on www.laughingplace.com (If you are interested in Disneyland you should frequent this site). Let me know what you want me to post here, either a description or location. I have some also for DCA, but Klemmer has those in his cache list as well. Have fun in Disneyland! I wish I was going too.
