  1. Sorry it took me so long to get the name - they were doing road construction this week, so this morning was the first day I was able to drive by the church. It is: St. John Lutheran Church Fairfield, PA Adams County Thanks for any help. For now, I guess I just log it as unloggable!
  2. oof - my bad, I even had the coordinates written down on a piece of paper, in my pocket! I just forgot to post them. <sigh> It's been that sort of month already... Coordinates are: N 39-47.246, W 077-22.140, town is Fairfield, PA, Adams County - don't remember the name of the church, but I pass it almost every day so tomorrow I will look at it and write it down so I remember... I did the search using the coordinates, but the nearest one listed was a mile away...so guess it's an unlisted BM. Thanks for all of your help, gang...
  3. I noticed this benchmark on my way home a few days ago, so I stopped, took the usual pics, and tried to find it in the database - but I couldn't. It's QUITE obvious inits location, so I would think it would be in the database, but then again, I am a noobie. It's located about 3 feet above ground, on the corner of a brick church, just above the stone, about 10 feet from the road...quite obvious, even as you drive by. If some of you more seasoned veterans can help me ID this, and also, please explain to me HOW you ID'ed it, I would be MOST appreciative, as this has become my passion / addiction. I'll post some pics...
  4. Not sure where you're from, but around here, unless you're part of the "in" crowd, the FF/EMT's can be downright nasty to each other. I still do it for the community, not because the people at the station are overly nice to hang out with. <sigh>
  5. I was out this weekend and thought of a situation that I would like some insight into. This is made-up - it didn't actually happen, but muggles in the area got me to thinking about it. Here's the situation - I was searching for a cache. I'd scouted the area before, just never had the time to officially go searching. When I finally get time, I approach the site where I am fairly certain it's hidden, and there are two other geocachers at the hide already. Now, being that none of us are muggles, is it proper ettiquette to walk up, introduce myself, and sign the log, or should I let them "clear" the scene, then go "find it" myself? I know that when I'm at a cache, I take heed to anyone walking up since I don't know if it's a muggle or not. If I were to walk up to them, would this cause undue stress? Or is this such a social sport anyways that my walking up would possibly start a new friendship(s)? So I pose this question to all of you that are so much smarter than I in the ways of the cache...
  6. Maybe I missed something in reading that thread...other than "save picture as..." from the thread, where are we downloading the pic? And who has the digitized file for embroidering? <sigh> I feel like it's a Monday all over again...
  7. Well, after all the good reviews here, I broke down and ordered my first Path Tag (my first personalized anything, for that matter...) Very simple, but meaningful and representative of my life right now...not sure if this image will come through (first time inserting an image, too...wow, I am a newbie...)
  8. I just deleted all waypoints and re-downloaded from GSAK so that those I've found would disappear, etc. And I noticed that the ID being shown on my GPS has changed from the first time I downloaded? Any clue what's going on? Did something change with the pocketqueries or something? Any idea how I get it back to the GCxxxx numbering system, so I can tell the difference between caches and benchmarks? Oye. I wish it were Friday...
  9. I'm sure there is, but can someone tell me if, and how, to map multiple benchmarks into any of the map programs (googlemaps, google earth, mapquest, etc.) I downloaded the county listing as instructed, but it would sure be nice to have mapping capabilities, so I can see multiple BMs as I drive through town, etc. Thanks all!
  10. Thanks! Didn't know you could PQ a bookmark list...good to know!
  11. This place is awesome. Thanks for the QUICK help! <phew>
  12. I just spent my entire lunch hour (well, more than an hour...shhh...) reading this thread. Wow. I've only been caching for about a month now, got a few finds under my belt, and now, thanks to all of you wonderful folk, I have a REAL goal! My question: is there a way to do a PQ for JUST the 50 state caches? If so, how? Remember, new to the whole searching process... Thanks!
  13. PLEASE please tell me there's a way to delete all waypoints in an eTrex Legend Cx at once, without going through them one by one. <sigh> Also, how do I get the caches and benchmarks to go to the mini SD card? I have a 2GB SD card, but it "maxes" me out at 50 waypoints...whether the card is in or not. Is there some toggle I need to switch to get it to save more than 50? If I can't, I have a like-new Cx for sale, cuz 50 waypoints isn't worth the cost of this one... Thanks for all the help... "frustrated"
  14. I get how to download the .loc file, but is there any way to get the "info sheet" to a PDA, like you can with the premium membership for caches? I drive over an hour to work every day, with about 3 dozen different "routes" I can take to get from place to place. I know there's tons of benchmarks along those routes, and I would love to just stop at a few here, few there, on my drives home...but without the info sheet, some of the benchmarks are near impossible to find (or may even be destroyed / not founds, which may impact how much time I give to the hunt...) If I had those sheets on my PDA (or laptop, etc.) I could easily view the file, see if the benchmark showing on my GPSr was worth the hunt (or if I had time for it...) and could plan more efficiently.
  15. I have 30 new coins that just arrived today, and while I am not activating all of them, I am keeping one of each different coin. I want to activate some of them - but I have to go through a 3-page activation for all of them. Is there no way to enter multiple coin tracking numbers, activation codes, and then use the same "location" info? There has to be an easier way than going through them one at a time...please help!
  16. Crowds or no crowds, it doesn't seem to change things for me. I tend to just stand in the background, absorbing as much as I can, eavesdropping as others ask questions, or make comments on things. Generally, if nobody comes up to me and "pulls" me into the event, I just stand back and observe. I learn a lot, but don't always participate. Now, I've never been to a Geo event...but all the other events I've been to have been this way. Unless there's somebody there to walk me through the process, show me the ropes, etc, I just watch and walk away. <shrug> Least I won't get lost walking away anymore...
  17. I know this has been discussed before, I read it once somewhere, but for the life of me, I can't find it. I've spent over 2 hours scrolling through, I've done numerous searches that turn up over 1,000 finds, and stil haven't found what I was looking for. <sigh> It must be this Friday snow getting to me...if they'd let me leave work, I'd be just jolly. Anyways, I'm looking for tips on what info to track when doing trades, or selling outright. I know some do it simple with printed emails, others have Acess or Excell files to handle it. If you're willing to "share" a file, I'd love to view them. Otherwise, just some tips on what info I should be tracking...obviously, name, address, coin traded, when, for what...but what else does anyone else track? Thanks.
  18. So, when you have an order arrive with it's 10, 20, 30, or 100 coins, do you go through and activate them all? Just the ones you plan to keep and not trade? None at all? Just curious what other's do...my first coin came this week, and I have an order enroute as I type... Thanks.
  19. Thanks! I'll keep my eye open for it in the mail, and let you know when it arrives. Beautiful coin! Thanks so much. My collection has begun...first coin in the hands today, and an order placed online for a "bunch" more. Oh no, I've fallen to the other side... <sigh>
  20. I use this for the cord. Roughly 1' per keychain, or 75 keychains per roll. Then I order the beads from these folks buying only the letters I need. Typically 90 of each letter. The split rings I get from Wally World. I've also ordered pewter beads from these guys, and made a keychain with our team name on it. Tell Little Bear "Good Luck!". Those keychains are awesome! I had something like that in college, but never even thought about it for this. And I'm already a member of Tandy's "Wholesale Club" so I'll get an even cheaper price! Excellant idea...hmm, maybe I can think of something else unique from Tandy...
  21. Thanks! I'll keep my eye open for it in the mail, and let you know when it arrives.
  22. I know with caches, premium members can dowload the .GPX files, which would allow them to have the "listing" on a PDA for field reference. Is there such a feature with the benchmarks, or just the .LOC files for the GPSr? I've enjoyed searching for both, but having the ability to download a large listing of info would be extremely helpful... Thanks!
  23. 0615 EST. I logged a find, dropped off my personal TB, but now, I can't get to the TB page to pick it back up...server down again? This is very frustrating...third time this same thing has happened to me, and I've only been a member for two weeks! Somebody's going to be upset if they go looking for this cache, thinking there's a TB in it... <sigh>
  24. Excellant timing! I had done a search at lunch today, looking for this exact thing, and was going to finish up here after work. You've just saved me lots of time from searching - this has everything we were looking for...until we have a more definitive idea of what we're doing! Thanks!
