  1. Well, in no particular order.... The political inference/assertion by X-Isle was rather strange: I am totally apolitical (far more focused on Holy Spirit than with external manifestions in this world such as politics), and have NEVER been accused of being affiliated with any point/position on the political spectrum in my life, and thus the emergence of this rather vehement claim was rather funny and astounding! Likewise, the inference/assertion by X-Isle about "bong" was rather strange as as well: first, I have no involvement of any kind with drugs; I do not even ingest over-the-counter remedies or prescription drugs (believe me, as any of the locals can tell you, I am very crazy, uninhibited and eccentric, and I do not need drugs to help me be that way; rather, I was born that way...!), and second, there was the fascinating implication by the poster that anyone whom he assumes to be a flaming liberal must also use drugs (and also a device called a bong.) I had never enountered that particular stereotype before! Wow! Lastly, as for cache maintenance: Yes, I need someone to make the ascent to Psycho Urban Cache #13 and put some more geocoins in the container, and I also need someone to rappell down to the final stage of Psycho Urban Cache #14 to add a few swag items. Thank you for offering X-Isle for these chores! P.S. Psycho Urban Cache #9 - Hot Glowing Tribulations needs a maintenance visit as well! Late edit: P.P.S. I forgot to mention above... I am quite thick-skinned, but the remarks by X-Isle really stung, and hence, I am gonna punish you all by committing public geocide: from the moment that I hit the SEND POST button onward, I will refuse to read any posts on these forums, or to send any posts to these forums, for TEN WHOLE MINUTES! So there! See if you can live without my posts for ten minutes! Oh now...no reason for such extreme measures. I tried to insert smiliies in my retort. And I apologize for assuming you belong to such a radical leftist organization bent on the countries destruction. I am wrong on occassion, and will readily admit so when proven wrong. However, I stand by my assertion that the little loud mouth (how ever old it is) was intentionally casting malicious remarks. And the OP was perfectly justified in her response. (Did I mention I automatically associate liberals with Berkley and copious amounts of marijuana and lack of bathing?) I certainly don't mean to be harsh, although I can see how my posts can be construed as so. I try, as I previously mentioned, to insert smilies whereever possible. I am simply plain spoken...with a smile on my face. No harm intended, but I will say exactly what I mean, and stand by it. As for the assistance with maintenance, I'm down for anything that involves descending and rappeling, especially where there's a deep dark cavern involved! I hope your ten minutes are up...I feel chastized beyond what I can bare. X PS....did Roddy say something?
  2. Yes, it is like that in many states that had open range land. It is my understanding that in Oklahoma we are pretty much OK if we avoid; 1. enclosed fenced areas, 2. crops or cattle present, and 3. no trespassing signs. You pretty much need to know you shouldn't be there for it to be trespassing. Of course you can also be told verbally by the owner that you are on his land but you then have the opportunity to leave immediately. Then there are some always off limit areas like railroad tracks and right of ways whether they are marked or not. One odd provision of the law is that it is also trespassing to interfere with a land owners normal use of his property. So if you were to park your car and block access to a business driveway, you are trespassing even if you are not on the property. I've lost a case in court because I hooked a fella up for trespass after he had been repeatedly informed he was trespassing. The judge advised the suspect must be warned and given the opportunity to leave EACH and EVERY TIME. Only if you refuse to leave can you be arrested, in Oklahoma. This caused quite a commotion in the department. Judges legislate down here too. However, always do as police advise. You can find yourself in more serious charges than trespass, like "interfering with official process" or "disobeying a lawful order", etc. The police are not always right. But as we already established, a cache is unimportant where legal ramifications become involved. And, I'd be sure to let the hider know they should make other arrangements before someone does wind up in jail.
  3. Not sure why you got all fired up, nor why you needed to send a personal note to the logger. After all, she/he stated plainly in their log that they would rather not be geocaching, but were forced to do as part of a school class activity. Why should they not be allowed to have their opinion and feelings about geocaching? Or is it that you are very insecure about yourself and your activities, and thus take offense where none was meant? I guess someone has to hit you with a hammer before you are offended. I don't like smart mouthed kids, no matter how old they are. Your reply is oozing with typical bleeding heart liberalism. So, put the bong down and answer this question... If it's so OK for the smart mouthed kid to "be allowed to have their opinion and feelings", why is it not OK for the Ferris Family? That person was obviously going out of their way to insult geocachers by telling us, we need a life. And you are right, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, coming on to a geocaching site, and spewing such an opinion is hateful and malicious. I applaud the Ferris Family for returning such a statement. They are a sight milder than I would have been. The important lesson here is, that one can spew anything they like, but they should be prepared to be responsible for their words. I would think you had learned that from the Dixie Chicks. We certainly don't all have to agree. But we all have to standby our own statements. Had I read the insult in another unrelated forum, I still would have defended the game, as so many play it. But to bring it and post it on a geocaching page is just cruising for a bruising. And by the way....that's just my "opinion and feelings". Thank You Ferris Family. X
  4. I'm with the guy who says the pictures make him ill. I have a severe fear of heights, which is why rappeling is so stimulating. I'm not sure the view is worth $25 tho. I'm NA (Creek and Kiowa) on the roll, etc etc. And I like white people. Especially with a cream dill weed sauce and a squash casserole . I also have to agree with the person that said "the we's are all dead". Racism will cease to be an issue when race ceases to be a topic or a point of referrence. Frankly, I find the entire "Skywalk" concept weak and unimpressive. I could design a project that was more thrilling at a fraction of that $30 million price tag. How bout a zip line to the bottom? Eh? I see nothing wrong with a cache in the area, but not on the feature itself. Of course, if the tribe says no, I would heed that answer seriously. We could always save our money and build a skywalk on the otherside of the canyon, with a predominant geocache. And charge non cachers a fortune to walk on it.
  5. I purchased a GPSr for logging meteorite impact sites and cataloguing strewn fields. As you know, it is virtually impossible to make such a purchase without hearing something about geocaching. Speaking for myself, I do the geocache thing solo. So it would make little difference to me how many geocachers there were in my area. However, the amount of caches in my area would effect greatly where geocaching appeared on my priority list. I believe there are close to 500 caches in my zipcode, so this should keep me occupied (for a time, anyway). AND, just as a side note, I am much more interested in rural placements and caches in the wild, that I am urban and interurban micros. X
  6. I was stoned out of my mind when I first saw that movie . Thanks for the memories.
  7. Bored? Dahling,,,,we LIVE for details . (I love this forum!) X In Transit
  8. Hey, thank you, Sneaky Pete. I had just placed a cache the day before your challenge, and it was approved immediately,("nice job" to the reviewer) without anyone dying or losing fingers or being arrested. So I didn't place another. But I am doing my research for the next one, as it happens. Everyone in their right mind recognizes the good natured challenge and that it was made in an effort to perpetuate the adventure. You've posted more than I, so I know you understand the nature of the beast. I also appreciate the voices of reason, like Trinitys Crew, Jasond, Jeep and the rest. I'm new to this, and appreciate those with a positive and encouraging contribution. Since my latest placement, I had some cachers from the great state of Texas find it and leave nice comments. So I guess us newbies are not totally incompetant. (sorry, couldn't resist) Anyways, thanks for the challenge, and the interesting thread. We'll be talking, no doubt. X "So easy, even a ..."
  9. Besides geocaches, I hunt meteorites for a hobby too. I hunt tornadoes professionally. I don't have any geocaching pics yet, but they are coming, forthwith! Great thread yall! I have enjoyed seeing all of you! X
  10. I'd like to see the "G" symbol on a small car window flag.
  11. *Rocking Roddy mode on* Hell no, if I do that, out of vengeance they will never publish any cache that I might create in the future! *Rocking Roddy mode off* BaHahahaaa!
  12. So what? And what does that have to do with permanence? I fail to see any of these restrictions in the rules. Would someone be kind enough to show us where?
  13. Roddy, I may respond with a strong retort, but it doesn't mean I don't respect your opinion. I have to say that I haven't encountered any of these difficulties caching so far. I live in southern Oklahoma, and all the cachers I have encountered so far were fun, respectful and truely knowledgable and helpful. I just haven't seen (down here) this dark side of the coin you are referring too. In any case, I will keep it in mind. And I realize your other post was misunderstood. It still doesn't change how it was percieved. I agree with your points, just not your presentation. I still respect your opinions. And as I mentioned, I will be utilizing Brians advise, even if I feel it's a sad state we are in to have to do so.
  14. Well one of my caches requires you to cross a busy road. What if someone crosses the road at the wrong moment in their urge to get to the cache and get hit by a car? Then maybe we shouldn't make caches that require you to cross busy roads? On the cache page, I do mention the busy road crossing bit, and I have listed the cache as not suitable for kids, but that's as far as I'm prepared to go. The list of stupid things people can do is endless, and although we should consider them, I don't believe we should create caches to cater for idiots. My point exactly! It puts me in mind of those stickers that snowblower manufacturers put on their snowblowers warning people not to use this equipment on their rooftops! And sadly the manufacturers do this to avoid the possibility of wrongful and frivolous suits. It's a sad world. But idiot catering only goes so far. I realize not everyone is going to follow the rules, but that is in no way the responsibility of the placer. But I will, after all, from this point forward, include this criteria as a valuable addition to my list of requirements. I'm not going to intentionally invite disaster. And frankly, the thought never crossed my mind that some cachers were dishonest dirty players. But i suppose they are out there. But I won't accept any blame for their lack of respect and integrity. I appreciate the advise Brian, and will remember it on my next hide.
  15. What? PuhLeez. These people need no interpreter. Your words were plain for all to see.... "I agree with Sbell...challenging a newbie into hiding a cache that he/she has no idea how to (A) hide ( maintain, how can that be helpful to our sport?? If that newbie (or even old salt for that matter) decides to place one in a sensitive location because they didn't read or follow the guidelines for placement, we could actually get a black-eye for their effort! It's best to leave hiding caches to those that are READY to do so," and..... "...attend at least 5 events, find at least a 3/3 cache, find 50 LPCs (after that, you'll be good and tired of them), do a 5+ mile cache, find 50 urban caches (not LPCs), find 50 wilderness caches, attend at least 2 CITO events and THEN place a hide!" I'm not putting words in anybodys mouth or having anyone believe anything. Your words speak loud and clearly. Your words "challenging a newbie" etc etc are pretty telling...eh? Since you have already apologised for any misunderstanding by "ANYONE", it seems a sad and detracting tactic to attempt to shift blame upon me, who has absolutely no clout whatsoeva in this forum. But as a "newbie", I won't be denigrated just because you are a premium member with a holier than thou attitude. **snicker** I'm really not mad. But I'm not letting you get away with using Hillary tactics on me! And I agree that some of your points were valid, your presentation was insulting and egomaniacal...and for a newbie, a bit hair raising! X
  16. In the case that cachers just load waypoints and go, is nobodys fault but their own. I never go out without some research. And as I go alone most of the time, my approximate destination is important for safety issues. And this second remark about it may not be a good idea because some cachers may break the rules is absurd to me. You are effectively altering proceedures to accomodate rule breakers. (you wouldn't be a congressman would you?) Now I'm no moderator...and you certainly know more about it than I do...but I didn't see anything about time availability (or more specifically the amount of available time) in the rules. And I don't know the specific details for this OP, but I know what it feels like to be wrongfully censored.
  17. You really shouldn't wait. That purse may be part of an ongoing investigation. Any police would swing by your residence and retrieve it and any pertinent info you have. X
  18. Secondly, anyone who starts to pay will spoil it for others. When you give in to any administration to finance their administration costs, you and everybody else have to pay from now on for a free service. Who knows where it will end. When it is common knowledge among park or county administrations or over the world to charge for caches, we might be the end of our great hobby. So, to my opinion, do not pay. I hope every potential cache hider has a good relation with park or county administration where you discuss things like the best spot to hide the cache and the most interesting route to get there. But some things are non-negotiable; paying for placing a cache is one of them. It is just as inappropriate as the right to edit the cache description or the demand to delete unwanted logs. DITTO!
  19. Thanks everyone, for the swift contributions to this thread. My lame little hypothetical just showed me how little I actually understand about geocaching origins and geocaching as a whole. Your responses have indicated an entire other world outside Geocaching.Com, with which I am totally unfamiliar. I only first heard of geocaching a little more than a month ago, and was immediately drawn to it. I'll continue my efforts in sharpening my finding skills, and leave the psuedo-politics and legislating to the experienced veterans of this adventure (I just enjoy a hike with a prize at the end ). As for global warming...Gorean concepts are established issues of desperation by a psychosis afflicted shell of a man dreaming of what could have been. In any case, ammo boxes are cooler.
  20. I had one like that. But my lack of experience was the cause of my DNFs', as others were finding it just fine. And, on my third attempt, I found it as well. Endeavor to persevere.
  21. What if geocaching was banned, altogether? I mean, they can't eat us. The sport would be driven underground, but still played by stealthy renegade cachers. Many would nolonger play, but there would be a serious following of nervy outlaw cachers. It would definately add an aire of excitement, no doubt about that. But who would still play and who wouldn't? Whatcha think?
