  1. Not according to the Official List If GS ever gets around to them, I'm owed about ten
  2. Are sure that wasn't a summit register? I've found a few of those in the same vicinity as geocaches.
  3. I've had one update for the system in my 28 month old Outback last year...it cost me nothing. Not sure when the next update will occur and I do not know the cost, if any.
  4. I don't understand the reference to the coin...I have logged all three caches and I bought the coin (silver colored) that was available at GS HQ.
  5. That is incorrect. There is a multi cache in the same forest. You also stated that the CO has not visited the site since 2017. That is also incorrect. That geocacher logged a find as recently as May of this year. I suspect you are not aware that logging using a phone app does not show up as a site visit. I regard throw downs as the geocaching equivalent of feeding feral cats. In the long run it prolongs the marginal life of the animal and usually creates more feral cats. Far more humane is to trap and neuter then feed if you insist on being involved. The geocaching equivalent is the offer to adopt if the cache is in your area. If you get no response then a "Needs Maintenance' followed by a "Needs Archiving" is the procedure to follow.
  6. That is an inaccurate generalization. In my experience, about 20% of wet or damp logs I encounter are the result of a prior cacher not closing the container properly. People are in such a hurry to get to the next find that they fail to make sure that the contents are not caught in the seal, the lid is not closed all the way around, the log is not rolled tight and inserted into the bison cap first and so on. If I find a wet log caused by a container failure I make sure to state that in my log and typically add a NM
  7. If the CO leaves the necessary specialized tools near GZ the geocacher still has to know how use them correctly to acquire the cache (as mentioned by niraD.) The fact the tools are there doesn't change the T rating in my estimation. I would NOT leave climbing equipment or a boat for others to use. Consider the ramifications of use by cachers inexperienced in those techniques (you have no way of vetting them) or failure of the equipment. It's one thing to leave a pole with a magnet nearby but climbing gear, boats, etc...have people bring their own.
  8. Just for fun I ran a search for "Macy's" "Walmart" and "CVS" in cache titles. Macy's had a few returns but all were in reference to children or dogs. CVS has several returns that were at or very near pharmacies of that company. Walmart had the most returns, some were at Walmarts and some were at abandoned Walmarts (they still seem like commercial violations to me) I don't think Walmart and CVS should get a pass on "cultural" grounds although the multi about the grave of the founder of Walmart might be OK (to me)
  9. You (or your partner) could use more generic terms like "six shooter" "revolver" "12 gauge" Even the proper name Deringer has passed into common usage as "derringer" With a little effort you could come up with a dozen terms to extend the series. eta: while I was typing this a couple of other posters had similar ideas and faster fingers...
  10. Alaska cruises are popular but as someone who lived in Fairbanks for two years and traveled to multiple parts of Alaska I would recommend flying to Anchorage and taking the train to destinations north and south to see the real Alaska. I just went back for the first time in 45 years and we traveled every mile of the Alaska Railway and had a great time. (message me if you want details) Denali as seen from a jet boat on the Susitna River near Talkeetna
  11. I'm good for this one but I will confess that many of the "significant hike" caches were found by mountain bike. Of course, that may also be why I have so many "dangerous animals" caches. I have been chased by wild boar while biking on Pulau Ubin but I had a good head start and they lost interest after I made a couple of turns and wasn't in line of sight. I may get to this cache when we finally go to Australia (more likely to be in the Melbourne region, though) but the best part of this whole discussion for me was learning a new word, nemophilist, and the scientific name for the drop bear Thylarctos plummetus (per the University of Tasmania see: https://www.australiangeographic.com.au/news/2013/04/drop-bears-target-tourists-study-says/)
  12. If a person has developed tetanus there is no "painful shot" to get them over it. The antitoxin is only useful for toxin that has not yet bound to nervous tissue. That is why it is important to get the shot before the disease develops. As for the second statement, a recent 6 year period reported by the CDC indicated 197 cases in the US with 16 deaths (all in patients over the age of 55) If the thieves are exposed to Clostridium tetani from a wound obtained while stealing an ammo can I hope it is followed by prompt delivery of a tetanus "vaccine" shot
  13. Did you read the question? The video clearly shows Dave introducing a gentleman named Don who he calls "the first finder, or guinea pig finder." Don then adds "I was the guinea pig finder." I did not know about the existence of this video (I knew the story of Dave Ulmer, of course) so I, too, want to know "Who is Don?" Presumably the first beta tester, as JL_HSTRE suggests, should have his own place in the history of this game.
  14. (Bolding mine) Note that six of those caches (all found in 2013) are now archived.
  15. Nothing weird, just an incorrect recovery log. The data sheet indicates the the mark is set in a rock outcrop. The mark pictured in concrete cannot be HV1700. The mark photographed by ArtMan and seventhings is much more likely to be HV1700
  16. We recently returned from finding our fourth cache on that list. We made the hike from Bray to Greystones on my birthday and logged GC43 along the way. It is a great walk along the cliffside above the sea with the train below us even closer to the water (we took the train back.) We were fortunate to have outstanding weather which made the day even better!
  17. Both the origin and the most famous usage of that term have strong political connotations. I would not use it.
  18. You may have missed the OPs post from last Friday that said, in part: "I have had the 11 type (icon) idea refused and this has been backed up by a refusal on appeal"
  19. From the OP: "I can access Email from the middle of no where in the outback but I can't access the website until I return to civilization" I doubt the FTF hounds are too much a problem in this scenario.
  20. fwoot, as you have seen we have some helpful geocachers here in the Off Topic forum. Welcome to Premium status, it helps pay for the game we all enjoy. This is the Off Topic forum, however, where non-geocaching topics are discussed. In the future you should post geocaching related questions to the regular forum.
  21. I use Garmin Express on my Mac Book Pro, no problem
  22. Because they do not have assigned difficult and terrain ratings?
  23. Sorry, not a Windows user. I'm sure you can find something through a search engine.
