  1. I travelled about 950 caching kilometres this weekend, hit 6 caches (3 of which I'd found before), was rushed through a 15km/h tidal current in whirlpools, came close to being flattened by a flying sea lion (yes, a real one!) and almost ended up dead twice. Good times!
  2. Well, as long as you're drunk, YOU won't be using your quad...
  3. 'A' beer?!?! Yeah, now I know you're being funny! Hey - we're heading out for the weekend (possibly to places you've been before). Wanna come along? You supply the quad, we'll supply the beer! Hee hee!
  4. Wow, what's with bees this year? Dagg was stung in the back of the neck a couple of weeks ago, and I got it on my index finger (same time and place). I haven't been stung in years! Killer bees? Seriously Zoomzoom - that's all the excitement you had? I doubt it...

Way to go ZoomZoom! Seems you may (or may not) have 'zoomed' right past us this last weekend!
  7. GPS City Canada has had some of my business and I found them also to have great prices, service and quick, reliable shipping. Just another option for you...
  8. ...and stay tuned... you may have started something here, Jomorac5! Who knows, maybe something like this event will be held on the island some time... ;-) Thanks again Jomarac5 and everyone else who showed up - it was great!
  9. Hey, I only meant that this could (under certain circumstances) serve to be an added thrill to geocaching. It makes no difference to me whether this is adopted by GC.com or any other site - it's irrelevant. People who may choose not to look for caches that are welcome to Urchin's Pirating ideas can also be forewarned by the cache owner placing the "pirate zone" logo. That was my only intent with that note. Personally, I'd prefer to see GC.com adopt this as a new twist to geocaching, rather than "someone parasiting off the geocaching.com website" (Zuuks words). The way things sit now, it doesn't look like that will happen, but who knows. I'm not trying to alienate anyone or any web site here - just showing my support for what I think is a great idea that can really improve an already great "game".
  10. Seems like a cool idea to me, at least the way it's been explained to me. I can't really see any viable negative points to it (once again, in the way I understand it will work). I've been lead to a cache that's already "flagged" as "pirate-friendly", and I think it's a great idea to welcome pirates to your cache - this may well deter anti-pirates from seeking your cache as well, if they so desire. Or, perhaps people will visit the caches more often or look for pirate-friendly caches to try out the "new" system and hope to get a new cache container to place their next cache! Here's the logo I've used (I "borrowed" it from another cache with the same logo): To this end, I have edited my caches to include this "Pirate Friendly" logo. The logo links to the site explaining the process of "plundering" a cache and what to do if you find a "plundered" cache. See an example of one of my caches here. As for the name attributed to "pirating" a cache, it all has to do with your perception of the word "pirate". Personally, when I think of pirating software etc. it's all negative. But to think of a pirate on the high seas (eye, matey!) has now turned to something that kids love and people seem to enjoy (think of a Pirate Pack at a White Spot restaurant, etc., for those in areas with that restaurant). So, I think the name fits and is friendly enough (as long as it's a friendly pirate). Of course, that's just my perception of the word. Happy pirating!

Think I may have been there once or twice before on cycling trips... Can't wait! Already I'm daydreaming at work; people keep asking me why my arms are moving around in circles
  12. No, but you can fill up the pontoons 3/4 full with beer and it still floats! That's not required though, 'cause Dagg will be carrying all the beer in his new boat:
  13. dadgum, I said no hints! Oh well... at least I won't be wearing a skirt!
  14. Sweetness! I just bought a boat (you'll have to wait to see it in person - no hints!) and I'm enjoying getting myself deeper in debt by buying all the required gear. Looking forward to trying it all out on the Arm! See you there!
  15. Sure glad there aren't many red-necks around these here parts.
  16. 27th is out for me. Any other weekend would work just fine.
  17. Got mine, even though I had to doctor a receipt to get it ;-). That was quite a while ago though... I'd give them a call and start whining.

    Units

Garmin Vista, which has pretty much everything you could want (electronic compass and all that). Also sits on your dash without sliding around too much, so it's great for moving-map applications with a laptop. Also have a Magellan SporTrak Map, which seems to get a bit better reception sometimes. Overall they're both great units; the Magellan is better in dense cover or for really precise stuff and averaging; the Vista is good when you're lost and need better navigation features.
  19. Sure, I'd be in any time. Guess I have to un-reserve my boat now - either that or go paddling on two day trips around Vancouver (not that it'd be a bad thing...)
  20. OK, I'm ready to go - just reserved my boat and I've gotten some practise lately...
  21. Hey - you trying to steal our operatives? Just kidding - hope to see you out there!
  22. Hmmm, too bad! I had someone out there with a GPS last week, but they're home now. I know there are a few NS cachers around...
  23. Server is messed... couldn't reply til now! Sign me up - I have some experience but no boat so I'll have to rent a single. Let's go!
  24. quote:Originally posted by Coupar-Angus:Great, now we have extreme Geocaching. Much as I like hiking into caches, I draw the line whe a tent is a piece of required equipment. Ha ha - that's funny! I now draw the line when a tent is NOT required equipment! Along with a laptop, maps, all weather gear, BFL's, and possibly a rented Protege 5 so you can get sideways on some logging roads :-)
