  1. I have a few GPX files I would like to transfer onto my Magellan eXplorist, but having trouble. Can some one explain how to do this? I load pocket queries all the time no problem. I am using Magellan Geocache Manager Thanks!
  2. My eXplorist 500 that is 14 months old stopped receiving satellites, no satellites at all. Called Magellan customer service and the guy troubleshot over the phone for 10 minutes and decided I should send it in for service under warranty. Shipped it on a Monday and 15 days later received either a new or refurbished eXplorist 500 back. If it is a refurb the case, screen and all buttons are new along with a new rechargeable battery. Can't beat that for customer service.
  3. I have had my Magellan explorist 500 for about 15 months worked great until recently. Now I can not pick up satellites, maybe two or three satellites standing in the middle of a field. Any idea why this would be? I have not dropped it or abused it. I guess I am looking for a new GPS?
  4. I have had my Magellan eXplorist 500 LE for almost a year and really like it, no problems at all. Never had to use customer service. I would purchase it again.
  5. I like the Magellans. The MAgellan 210 is black and white, expandable memory and will connect to your PC for loading GC's. The 500 is a step up with color for a few bucks more. Easy to use. Hopefully these are in your budget.
  6. 1. Open the GPS file with geocache manager, it will display all caches in query. Then transfer them to a folder on the GPS. After doing this a couple times very easy. 2. MArk cache as found - couple ways to do it on the GPS receiver. Click on cache icon in the map. Click on I mean push down on the joystick portion of the receiver. This will dispaly info on cache with three fields you can toggel between, one is mark as found, click on it and clear the cache. Or if doing a goto you can m,ark as found. All easy once you get the hang of it.
  7. 50 characters is not much. The screen sure has room for more characters and the increase in used memory would be minimual.
  8. My 5 and 7 year olds like hotwheel cars and little rubber animals like dinosaurs or fish. They like to leave the same think, of course after they have played with them.
  9. I have the Magellan eXplorist 500 and like it. Not sure of the differences from the 400. Only thing that would be nice to have additional is the electronic compass, but not a big deal and not sure it is worth the extra money for me. I have had my 500 about 3 months, no problems and would purchase a MAgellan again.
  10. Mine was on backorder for about 6 weeks. I finally called and asked what was going on an the just happened to ship it the next day.
  11. I purchased a Magellan 500LE about two months ago, I am happy with it. The 3 AAA batteries lasted 4 to 6 hours, the backlighting is a big drain. Turning the display to dim greatly extends battery life but makes it hard to read in the sun. Magellan has the rechargeable battery pack and charger on sale for $20, just takes about 6 weeks to ship. I paid $175. I do not know anything about the 400.
  12. I have a Magellan Explorist 500 LE and looking to get the Mapsend North America, just debating on spending $100 for version 2 or $150 for version 3. Is the extra $50 worth version 3? Anything different between the two that is not explained on their website description. Does anyone sell version 1 anymore? Thanks!
  13. I am still messing with this, thanks for the help. I am going into the active set up and trying to displaying the map, but it is not located in the file to select. I am trying to store it on the SD card and am searching the SD card in active set upbut no luck. The problem is I have a .img file, not imi. MAybe I will try this again in a few days and get it figured out then. Thanks,
  14. Well...I am not sure what I am doing. I am selecting the area that I want to load in to my GPSr, then I click on Regions and then "Upload to GPS..." I select the "Store on Hard drive" option, put my GPSr S/N in hit next and it tells me the size of the file it is going to create and then I click on Finish and it creates a .img file. Is that what you are doing and you get a .imi file? I tried to load the .img file to GPSr using Magellan Conversion Manager and I can get it to transfer over to my GPSr but the map does not show up on my GPSr. Any advise on what I am doing wrong? Thanks
  15. I have Mapsend DirectRoute NA. Right now when I create a map to be loaded to my GPSr I get a .img file. I have read that version 1.0 creates these type of files and there is a patch, that would upgrade the software to version 1.3, and when installed it will make the software create .mgi files and then I can use Magellan Conversion Manager to load the map to my GPSr. Does that make sense?
  16. I have an old version of Mapsend V1 and need the patch for V1.3 or higher so I can get it to make .mgi files instead of the .img files. Does anyone know where I can find that patch? Thanks,
  17. I think the Magellan eXoplorist 100 or Garmin etrex would be what you are looking for. Both good models for well under $100.
  18. MAgellan has the battery and AC adapter for $20 on sale right now. Just on backorder.
  19. I heard the USB port will charge the battery just not as fast as the AC cord.
  20. I have the Magelan eXplorist 500le and need am ready to purchase a sd memory card. Any suggestions what size to get? Would I ever fill up a 2 gig?
  21. The 9th is not bad, these AAA batteries are adding up in price.
  22. My battery and charger have been on backorder from Magellan for about a week. How long have your been on backorder? Any word when the batteries and chargers will be shipped?
  23. I have the Magellan eXplorist 500le, I notice it has a screen for more info about the cache but is blank on the GPS. How do I get the additional info to the GPS? Thanks!
  24. Newbie here - Obviously not using paper, but doesn't the GPS display everything needed? What do you write on paper?
