  1. Would it be proper protocol to log in a few finds from November that we forgot about or is it better to let them go and chalk it up as experience?
  2. I was awarded my Eagle rank in 1975 as a member of the Wallace M. "Pappy" Grube class. I am still proud of that fact but, what's more exciting is that my two oldest sons received their Eagle Awards at the troops Court of Honor last Saturday afternoon. My third son should be an Eagle in a couple of years. Scouting while not for everyone, teaches "Timless Values". The boys and adults in my troop all respect the flag of our country and are not afraid to join in the prayers we say at the opening and closing of every meeting. They also know the meaning of the Scout Oath and Law not just the words. 60 youth and adult members of our troop will be attending the H. Roe Bartle Scout reservation this summer. If you are ever in the Truman Lake area of the Missouri Ozarks you should check it out.
  3. The Boy Scout Handbook is a great resource - Anyone who spends any time in the outdoors should also have a copy of the Boy Scout Fieldbook. It can be found for about $20.00
  4. Geocaching gets me outside, away from the TV. It is also a great way to spend time time with my three sons. One of these days we will get Mom to go out with us.
  5. Scouter - a great way to get something started in the KC area would be to talk it up at the November roundtable - The exposure given to the sport at the camporee was great
  6. One other thing - don't forget to buy good socks. I usually wear two pair, one is very light called a liner) and the other is heavier. For the heavier one - I like a brand called "smartwool". Smartwool is expensive but well worth it.
  7. IMO you can't go wrong with the Hi-Tec Alpine Lite or Vasque Clarion Impact. Both of these boots will give you years of service.
  8. The best program to keep dogs free and clear of fleas and ticks is to deploy a three phase attack. 1. Treat your yard with an approved granular or liquid insecticide. 2. Treat your dog with an approved topical insecticide. 3. Bomb your house with an approved aerosol insecticide. If you can do all three of the above actions the same day, you have a good chance of breaking the insects life cycle.
  9. A cigar would be great for a time like this. A Partagas Robusto comes to mind.
  10. I am sure that your husband will be pleased with his gift. If you will be going out with your children you might want to consider two additional items. 1. Plenty of baby/hand wipes 2. Good floor mats or extra newspaper for muddy feet
  11. I purchased a Etrex Venture from Target yesterday for $91.37 including tax. Seemed like it was the least expensive way to go when getting our Boy Scout Troop started into GPS. I hope that it will be a great activity for them to do on campouts.
