Are you talking about adding the coordinates to a photo, like a "time-stamp" does?

Does Anybody Own A 76csx?
Centex Trekker replied to Centex Trekker's topic in GPS technology and devices
Not a problem for me. My 14 YO daughter never complained either. At least not about the size of it. Only about being tired or too hot. I'm happy with mine, except for a couple of minor things. The "needle" on the compass page won't point to the cache when doing a "Goto" until you get around 50-60 ' from the cache. I just walk around until the numbers start going down and set off in that direction. The signal strength bars were to to single color and WAAS/RGNOS was turned off. Both were on with my 60CS. I just need to learn it bit more about it; such as turning on/off Blue Chart and Topo maps. Also how to use the mini-card. -
I know the internals should basically be the same thing as I had upgraded from a 60CS that I got 05/04. If I remember correctly, the only differences are, case, internal memory, screen/button orientation, built in Blue Chart, ant it floats. The 60S also floats, but barely, unless you're using lithium batteries. My question is; Why don't I see any post with 76 CSx problems?

No, looks like I'm still running 6.7. I've been trying to update, but I can't get to Garmin's website. I'm using wi-fi at a motel and can go anywhere else. Maybe they;re have server problems.

Difference Between 60c And 76c
Centex Trekker replied to gdragon34's topic in GPS technology and devices
I have both; A 60CS that I got 2 years ago when they first came out, and a 76CSx that I got last week. The only thing I don't like about it is I keep finding myself holding it upside down. Won't take long to get accustomed to it. -
Is there any way to stop this? When I upload waypoints from the GPS (Garmin 76CSx) I find the .gdb file I had loaded have reverted to a new one. It's a real PITA.

Got My Garmin 76csx Today.
Centex Trekker replied to Centex Trekker's topic in GPS technology and devices
Yes, when the 76CSx is USB attached it gets it's power from the USB and does not use the battery. The Pwr icon in the top bar indicates when it is using external power or battery. The same external power icon will display when you attach a car 12v power adaptor. The batteres just sit there and wait for the next time you don't have external power available. Cool, thanks, that's what it looked like to me. Thanks. -

I noticed somrthing else I think id different from the 60CS. Does it get power from the USB port when it's plugged in to the PC? Because when it is, it shows the AC power icon and the backlight is on. -

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I got my 60CS 05/04. I'm typing this in a motel room in Carlsbad, NM. We're on a "Out West Quest". Did 4 easy ones today. Now I need help with GSAK. Like I said, I'm on the road and internet time is limited to evenings and maybe breaks. If somebody can provide a link, I'd greatly appreciate it. I can't find the info I'm looking for. I've forgotten how to use Cachmate as well. -

OK, I did that. I still get the "Can't unlock maps" error mesage when turning the GPSr on. Do I need to upload the maps again? I uploaded the maps again and they show up now. Thanks for the "prompting". Have I said how much I like this thing? It even gets a good satt lock inside the motel room with it sitting 3' from the window; and the walkway has a roof. Works great in the car too. I have an external ant for my 60 CS, but it's been on so long, we can't get it off without pliers. Good thing I don't need it. So far tho only thing I don't like is that the satts are all the same blue color instead of different like the 60. -

Well, if it is City Select or City Navigator you will need an unlock code. Hopefully you only used one of the two available for your software. Use the unlock wizard in MapSource to get the second code (Tools/Unlock Maps). It's City Select 6. I think I might have used both unlocks because I have it 2 computers; my desktop and a laptop. It's also on my 60CS. Now I want it on the new 76CSx. -
National Geographic Topo And Waypoints
Centex Trekker replied to KirklandExplorers's topic in GPS technology and devices
Not sure what you mean; are you downloading waypoints from your GPSr? -
Just got my new GPS76CSx today. I got 61.4 MB of maps uploaded to it successfully. Trouble is they don't show up on the GPSr. It's been so long since I uploaded the maps to my 60CS, that I forgot how to "activate" them. Also, it told me the maps I was trying to upload for CA were locked. What's up with that? We leave for CA tomorrow, so any help tonight will be greatly appreciated.

Well, thanks for the one comment.

Rechargeable -vs- Disposable Batteries
Centex Trekker replied to MouseFart's topic in GPS technology and devices
I use rechargables if I have any charged, but I agree that Lithiums last the longest. -
My first GPSr was a Magellan SporTrak Map. I got tired of the "Bumble bee" behavior when I near a cache. 2 years ago, I got a Garmin 60CS. Never touched the Maggie again. I just ordered a Garmin 76CSx even though I don't have a boat. Never know, just might get one someday. I do plan to buy a kayak or a canoe; just can't decide on which one.

City Select 7 Or City Navigator?
Centex Trekker replied to Centex Trekker's topic in GPS technology and devices
For which GPSr? It's for a 60CS. -
I need to know soon because we're going on vacation in 2 weeks. Who's got the best price?

Have you checked with Garmin ( http://www.garmin.com/unlock/update.jsp )? Since you have version 6 you could get the upgrade from them for $50. From what I understand, I'd have to have v6.0 installed on my notebook. Since it's new, I don't. I have no clue where the CD is anyway since I moved. It'd be great to get it on the cheap, but I just want it on the new notebook before we leave in 2 weeks.
