  1. Doesn't anybody know how to do this, or can you only copy POI's using the POI loader? Please help.
  2. OK, I just did it the "regular" way, by using MapSource. It took 25 minutes to load 309.5MB worth of maps. I loaded City Navigator and Topo West for the entire state of Texas. I also remembered that you have to use Garmin's image loader to copy to the card reader. O forgot that I had downloaded it. Now. I'll have to figure out how to use it.
  3. Well, that was a resounding failure. I viewed the device with Explorer and it showed the file, but it was only 70KB. Maybe I didn't wait long enough for it to copy everything. It shows as a .gdb file. The one on my 128MB card is in a Garmin folder and appears as a gmapsupp.img file that is 122,464KB in size.
  4. I got my 1GB micro SD card in the mail today, along with a SD adapter and a USB reader. I discovered that I already had a USB SD cad reader, so if anybody needs one, let me know. I'll make you a good deal. To copy the file from MapSource, do I simply copy the .gdb file to the reader? Or is it more complicated than that? Thanks.
  5. did you have to do anything special for this? Reason why I'm asking is because I just ordered a 60CSX yesterday and am thinking about refusing shipment on it when it comes and reordering one today since they just came out with a rebate today. i was one friggin day early If I was you, Id call Garmin and see if they'll still honor it.
  6. Yeah, I saw that but it didn't dawn on me it would have anything to do with the problem. Thanks.
  7. POI loader opens whenever I have the 76CSx hooked up to the PC and turn it on and it did it again when I ran WebUpdater. Why?
  8. Since the LED is rated for such a long life, as a former electronics tech, I'd say it had a bad connection somewhere.
  9. Something weird. I just installed the POI program and now whenever I have the GPS hooked up to the PC, it runs the POI program when I turn the GPS on. Is this supposed to happen? It's kind of annoying.
  10. Whenever I have my 76CSx hooked up to my PC via USB, the backlight is on. If I forget to turn it off, will the backlight fail (burn out) over a period of time?
  11. Ones of these days I gotta figger out how to do this. Thanks for posting it. I had no idea.
  12. Thanks again, but who has a good price on a card reader?
  13. Thanks, guys. Let me see if I understand. The SD card replaced the internal memory that the 78CS had. It has no memory available with the card out? Who has a good price on a 512MB or 1 GB card?
  14. It would only let me install 121.1MB which would mean the 128MB card is where it was being loaded. Do I get 512MB if I remove the card?
  15. That's providing they're even in the program. The was some place in some city that I knew was there, but it didn't show up.
  16. Cool. I didn't take it that way. Yeah, for some reason I don't see myself ever using a mounted gps on my bike (watch me eat my words someday). I took a trip to Big Sur recently and simply printed out my route from mapquest. Every time I stopped for a break (about every 100 miles or so) I just memorized the next leg of my trip. The reason I want a GPS is so I'm not limited to what I've printed out, and can explore more without worrying about getting lost, or running out of gas in the middle of the desert or something. I don't find myself going on too many urban-goose-chases on my bike. What kind of bike do you ride? I have an '03 Suzuki SV650. That's what I did back in 1986 when I rode a '81 HD Sturgis from the top of Denmark to 70 Km. south of Rome, Italy. All I had a road atlas. The only time I was ever "lost" was near Heidelberg, Germany and that was only because I couldn't find the entrance back to the Autobahn.
  17. I just got an e-mail with my rebate tracking #. Still no status other than that on the rebate site. Just got this available. 18. I was quite satisfied with the 60CS, but I decided to get the 76CSx just before I went on vacation because of it's extra memory. I didn't realize how sensitive the Sirf circuitry was. It was so good that I let my brother take the Gilsson antenna I had bought for the 60CS.
  19. I had to wait quite a while before I got the email from the rebate place. Thanks.
  20. If I was you, I would protest it. Other Forum members have done so and gotten their rebate. I'm still waiting for mine. The deadline was 07/09/06. I mailed mine Certified Mail on 07/06/06 and they received it 07/11/06. I agree with the acquisition. I let my brother have my Gilsson antenna because I don't need it now. When i was vacation the last week of May, I never needed it in the car. My old 60 CS did, though.
  21. OK, I sent my rebate stuff on 07/06/06, certified so I can prove they received it. I checked on it with USPS, and Garmin got it on the 11th. When I go to the rebate website, nothing appears. Is there an e-mail address for this sort of thing? Thanks.
  22. I just posted to another thread about the same issue. I had a 60CS for 2 years and recently got a 76CSx. Talk about night and day. More memory (thus more maps you can load) and it floats. The 60 sort of floats too, but not on the surface unless you are using lithium batteries..
  23. I sold my 60CS to my brother and got a 76CSx. The only problem I have with it is I find myself holding it upside down, often as not. I had a Gilsson external antenna, but I let my brother have it because the 76 works fine in the car without it. I can even get a lock in the house.
