  1. While visiting "You're Among Friends" (GCNZYK), I dropped the TB "Bharatpur, Nepal" Unite for Diabetes Travel Bug (TB1AXRF) but submitted my log without selecting it from my inventory. I thought I could just edit the log posting, but that didn't work. Nothing on my inventory page appears to help either. Another person has taken the TB from the cache, so I need some help getting it "dropped". Can you suggest something?
  2. I was able to get V7 (full, no upgrade) in person at my "local" Cabelas. You might want to check there.
  3. My Garmin GPS V has begun to go through batteries like kids in a candy store. I mostly used the power supply from my car, then would use the batteries when I was hunting for a cache. So my exposure until recently was only for one hour off car power at most. Saturday I took my GPS to work and rode with it on the motorcycle. Since I don't have an accessory outlet, I was forced to use battery power. Within 4 hours, my first set was dead. Granted, they were NiMH rechargeables and I thought they were charged, but wasn't sure. So I purchased new batteries, and within 3 hours they were dead. Yesterday I put freshly charged NiMH's back in, and reset the battery timer and turned the unit off. No use between then and now. Turned it on today, and got the low battery warning. Any thoughts? Is this something I can rectify, or is this a manufacturer issue? The unit is only 3 months old. John Esher, Jr Team Guinness
  4. It's got about 34,000 miles on it - very well taken care of by the previous owner(s), although they apparently didn't ride much! I also ride at work - 2002 FLHPI. Probably don't want to meet me on that, though I never really thought about taking it caching, since I usually take my GSD with me with I go. She loves to run in the woods! I guess on those days that I decide to leave her at home and take a ride, I'll aim for a cache. John Esher, Jr Team Guinness
  5. The time consuming part is using the Find... tool to locate the winery. Typing the addresses in Mapsource is one of the worst interfaces I've ever used. Well, what I found in the interium is MapsOnUs. Just type the address (like you'd do on an envelope), then click it to get lat/lon. I then add that to EasyGPS, and now I have the beginnings of a file. It's the best I can figure. John Esher, Jr John Esher, Jr Team Guinness
  6. Is there an easy way to add multiple waypoints to the GPS V? I have a list of wineries close to my house in PA. I'd like to add the addresses to my GPS as waypoints. This way while my wife and I are geocaching, we can go tasting as well. I added two using the search functions of the Mapsource program, but stopped due to the extrememly time consuming process ahead. Any thoughts? John Esher, Jr Team Guinness
  7. The file you uploaded was the fix I was looking for. I'm now a happy mobile PDA cacher! Thanks for the nice job, John Esher, Jr Team Guinness
  8. Based on the suggestion above, I created three new queries and had the .gpx files sent to me tonight. I tried to run gpx2html, and ran into the same problem described above. I believe that somehow I got a bad gpx2html file, since fizzymagic did state "I am making a new version that doesn't use the offending module. I'll post it to the website tonight and send you an email." The thing I don't understand how is why everyone else's file seems to be OK. Did anyone else grab the file from fizzymagic's site? Any problems or all OK? Thanks for all the help, John Esher, Jr Team Guinness
  9. Here's a photo of Guinness near the Stonehill Greenway Cache. This was a somewhat rocky area (as are a lot of parks in PA) and she had no problems jumping from rock to rock. Sometimes I think we'll have to take a different track because of a log or other obstruction and before I can find a route around, she's over it. Most times I have her on lead, either a Long Flexi3 or a convertible service dog lead close in to me. If you haven't seen one of these, check out this link. When she's off lead, it's in an area that I feel confident that I can regain her attention if necessary. I guess those many Tuesday nights at Obedience classes _have_ paid off. 10. A quick check of Google yielded these results: "Searched the web for open source spell checker. Results 1 - 10 of about 34,400. Search took 0.19 seconds." "Searched the web for free spell checker. Results 1 - 10 of about 147,000. Search took 0.21 seconds." Often, how the message is presented has a lot to do with how the message is received! 11. >This is a GPX file sent to you from >Geocaching.com, from the Personalize Query page? Yes, it's a GPX from the geocaching page. >Try it with only one gpx file. If it still does >that, we'll try something else. Tried that, started with three, then two, then one...still didn't work. >I'm not sure why it's barfing, but the most >likely reason is that it doesn't see any gpx >files. Make sure they don't have some hidden >extension that Windows isn't showing you... Nope, all extensions are shown and it's a .gpx file. When executed, gpx2html begins to run and states: Finding GPX files... Getting ignore list... Getting corrections list... Getting reference locations... Cleaning input GPX file 7612.gpx: Then the error message states in part(thanks to bspeng for the DOS window idea): Please see the Perl2exe user manual under "Can't locate somemodule.pm in @INC" Can't locate Carp/Heavy.pm in @INC (@INC contains: PERL2EXE_STORAGE C:WINNTTEMP C:EASYGPSGPS@HTML .) at PERL2EXE_STORAGE/Carp.pm line 109. I got the gpx2html.exe file from the link at very near the top of the page at: http://home.attbi.com/~fizzymagic/gpx2html.html#Introduction Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions? 12. I'm having difficulty utilizing gpx2html. I downloaded the .exe file, placed in a directory where I saved three .gpx files. Double clicking on gpx2html brings up a window in which I get some sort of error message, but I can't read or copy it because it then quickly disappears! If it's any help, the HTML subdirectory is being created, but it's empty. Any ideas? John Esher, Jr John Esher, Jr & Guinness, GSD Team Guinness
  13. Wlel, how about that. All you have to do is scroll through the OTHER postings... All the features that I desire are available through the Pocket Query. Which I am entitled to receive, so disregard this post. Thanks.
  14. I'd like to be able to search for caches based on terrain/difficulty or type. For instance, show me all caches within 100 miles that have a terrain difficulty of 3 stars or more. Or, let me see all caches within 300 miles that are designated "Multi-Cached". Is this feature available now? (I can't seem to find it if it is) Is this something other users would find useful? 15. It was running on battery power when I switched the page orientation. I'm fairly certain that I switched it once while on car power and the same behavior was noted. But, that's easy enough to check, so I'll repost when I can test that theory.
  16. Olar, will this ensure that the upcoming road (cross street) appears in the map page? Is this the setting that allows cross streets to appear? I do see that my unit's preference for Lock-On Road is set to Off. John
  17. While using my GPS V unit today for geocaching, I observed for the third time the following behavior. If I choose a waypoint from the waypoint or RFP menu, choose GoTo, then Off-Road the bearing indicator and compass pop up. Great so far, but then I remove the unit from the car and change the screen orientation. Now the problem begins - the bearing pointer and compass disappear. I can see the fields that I have chosen, but to get the pointer back, I must Stop Navigation, then Recalculate the route. Anyone else notice this behavior? Is there a fix?
  18. I've noticed a curious behavior with my GPS V unit. Today I was out Geocaching and was using it in the Off-Road mode. I then stopped navigation and went into what I thought was "ready to navigate" mode. But, the upcoming streets did not appear. I was able to get them back by creating an autoroute, then stopping that navigation, but this is just a work around. I know that I've started the unit and after acquistion, had the upcoming streets appear, in fact it took me 10 minutes to stop grinning the first time I used the unit. Anyone else notice behavior?
  19. I'd do it and would look for others like it. But, I guess that's why my wife calls me a geek!
