  1. I have found while caching garbage homeless camps small pot plants in a pot a pretty girl a chickens foot a coyote skull odd chemicals with a spoon a wagon wheel thorns old buildings stinging nettle deer sunglasses while fishing I have found knives fishing rods tons of gear old bottles native artifacts and forget what else if you want to read ALLOT of pages of what people find in the woods look here: http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?t=148441&page=31
  2. What Iv'e found is, when i delete all caches from my unit, any cache page photos Ive uploaded remain in a folder in my unit. I upload with Vantagepoint, and delete the entire batch from my machine before I add another query. In a folder marked images, then a subfolder marked geocaches I found every photo from the cache pages I have ever uploaded. I thought I would let people know so they can delete the photos if I want too. cheers
  3. "Parks Manager who was very upset of this" this makes me wonder if this power trail around the lake was done without permission? lets hope this has a positive outcome and THANKS go to all who work towards a positive relationship with MVP and other groups. as an aside, that was my first and last power trail, other than a few parts of one Ive done as they where local to me and was there anyways multiple times. 4. Gsak is the most complicated interface in existence, dont. when you have a downloaded pq or single cache file, drag it into Easy gps. when you send it, it will open a window, basically asking where do you want to put it.using that window, search through your My Computer files to find your gps, then open that and open geocaches folder.put the files into that folder. done
  5. I had a 500 Le for almost 5 years, a good unit if outdated a bit now I was not able to download single caches from each page using the Send to my GPSr feature either I used a free and very simple program called Easygps to send pocket queries to my unit The folders in the GPSr should open and display on your computer as well, open the geocache folder and you can drag and drop cache files or pocket query files that you have downloaded from the site as well. waypoints need to be manually added with the mark function yes, adding the numbers manually only files marked or named as a geocache will be in that folder, otherwise added waypoints will be in my POI, points of interest I recall it was a bit of a confusing folder system as well this machine will point you in a direction and tell you how far away you are, plus a few other minor details, thats about it. It comes with a very basic map, I at one point added a memory card with a local detailed map and WOW did it slow the machine down. That being said its a great geocaching tool, once you get the hang of it.If you looked at a street address say on google earth, got the co ords from that you could add it to your GPSr but it will not guide you street by street, only as the crow flies and the distance left. as a geocaching tool, to pre load POI,s you can download the gpx or loc file from the cache page, I used the Loc file when i had that unit.If you upgrade your geocaching membership to premium, you will then have the option to make pocket queries of multiple geocache files and drop them all at once via Easygps into your unit. You will not get the hints, logs cache size and diff terrain ratings though, just the co ords and basic description for each cache. But it beats printing it all out or writing it all down, like i did when i started in 07. any other waypoint can be added manually I hope this helps, feel free to message me with any questions cheers and good hunting TSSR
  6. I have had the GC for a month or so, I used to have an older Magellan 500 I would say its easy to use, as its made specifically for geocaching. That said if its your first model you will have a learning curve, finding out how it works, downloading pocket queries etc. And it has a great road map built in, though all the info windows and numbers etc are much smaller than my old magellan. I use a free program from Magellan called vantage point to input clusters ( pocket queries) of caches yo my unit. You can use other free programs as well, or do it cache by cache from each cache page. have fun
  7. Im liking my Magellan GC, its an upgrade from a Magellan Explorist 500 LE The GC easily meets all my paperless caching needs, though Id quickly go back to the 500 to get me to the cache if I could. The GC has tiny little everything on the screen and the compass isn't great.
  8. http://support.magellangps.com/support/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=view&parentcategoryid=34&pcid=24&nav=0,18,24 let me know if that link didnt work, maybe i can DL it for you or something I have used my Explorist 500 LE for 5 years up until recently. I did the latest software upgrade , it does give you more screens to play with but nothing that I used for caching at all cheers The Stainless Steel Rat

  13. thank you for your reply It does have or did have a slower reaction time if i had changed location, yes and would not work indoors usually at all now , outdoors in clear conditions even after rebooting and restarting recharging etc it will not or can not find even one satellite its old I guess its done, darn it

  16. I cache and live on the west coast as well very bag for bugs this year Deet is very good though ive had to apply over and over in one outing, kind of gross and cant be good for you my geo buddy uses natural repellants and has still had to use my deet spray, even on the dog! the secret is, to stop the itch afterword is to rub the inside of a banana peel on the sore areas works like a miracle cache on
  17. Ive been using that unit since feb 07 and it is usually pretty accurate, maybe more than some Ive cached along side of but at the same time its slower to settle into qround zero.I now expect to only get within say between a few feet and 20 or so of the exact spot the cache is in on average due to all the variables involved.Hopefully between getting some experience in the field and whatever info you can get from the manual and online it will become easier
  18. it would be amazing If i could finally have a better map for my Explorist 500 LE Thank you very allot if you could send me a copy as well lovethemack@yahoo.ca cheers

  20. I have an old Magellan explorist 500 LE 1005 ed Instead of clicking the Send to GPS tab on a cache page,I click the GPX tab next to it.It opens with my Easygps program free from the net. Then i can send it anywhere on my computer including the geocache file on my Magellan if it is plugged in and turned on. It works the same way for pocket queries.hope that helps
  21. end of the 6 o clock news tonight on Global 11 in BC will be a short bit on caching
