  1. Once I get back to work I'll have a better idea of which days will be best for me.
  2. I didn't vote. You can flip a coin for me, either choice would be fine in my opinion.
  3. Count me in. Unless something pops up at work, I ought to be able to make it. Might finally sneak in some cool weather camping! Any other LAGer's gonna show up?
  4. quote:Originally posted by Mudfrog:By the way, has anyone heard anything from Phil and Stephanie? I finally recieved my LaGeocaching T-shirt in the mail (thanks Phil!). The return address was from Arkansas.
  5. quote:Originally posted by Jamie Z:Uh oh. Bad news, Russell. Oh well. Sorry to hear you didn't get to use it, after hauling it in your truck for the duration of PaterQuest. No biggie. Give me a call the next time you're in town. Russell
  6. I've met JamieZ. In fact, I helped furnish his apartment Great guy. Still looking forward to doing a paddle some time. Don't know if I could swing the Yukon though. I bumped into ClayJar over a year ago and we combined for a first find of a now archived cache. He was already a forum legend way back when Jeremy and Elias in New Orleans for a conference. Nothing like a geogathering at Pat O'briens! And of course there's the other gatherings... Buck8Point, Alex and Katie, pizzachef, Sabaharr, (who'd I forget?) All great folks!
  7. quote:Originally posted by Buck8Point:- Somewhere in Kistache again. Cool. Camped here once (near Kincaid), years ago. Also, since I missed the last event, it would be nice to come here. Only concern is hunting season. With a moniker like "Buck8Point" I would suspect you could shed a some light here quote:- Red Dirt has some primitive areas near Natchitoches including near the Longleaf Vista Trail. Ive heard a LOT of good things about this area, but have never explored it personally. Little bit of a longer drive from N.O., but what the heck?!? Like B8P, I've heard good things, just never been there. Same concerns about hunting. quote:- Some Primitive camping areas around Toldeo Bend. Again Ive never explored this area. Yikes! Sounds like a REAL long drive from N.O. Talk me into it quote:- Some where around the St. Francisville, Cat Island, or Tunica Trail area. There are several possibilities there. BEAUTIFUL Area.. I've never camped around here. I've driven through a few times and of course hunted waterfall 3. The only Cat Island I'm aware of is off the coast of Mississippi, just west of Ship Island. Is there another? quote:- Some remote location along the Atchafalaya Spillway Levee. Four words: "Squeal like a pig" quote:- A Particular State Park. A very reasonable compromise, as long as we're not surrounded by RVs. I must say, I've been impressed by the Louisiana State Parks I've visited after taking up Geocaching. My daughter lives (with my ex) very near Chicot. That would get my vote if we go the State Park route. quote:- Some Private Property (With Permission of Course). quote:- The Ritz Carlton on Canal Street in New Orleans.. For a truly urban wildlife experience I guess my preference would be for a National Forest campsite. Like I stated above, my only concern this time of year is hunting season. I don't own a lot of orange. One of LA's State Parks might work just as well.
  8. quote:Originally posted by rbdupuy:Maybe after the holidays we'll see a big surge of new caches. I placed one today after a day of Christmas shopping. Keep an eye out for it on the Louisiana page. I've got a couple more in mind, but this time of year is just too hectic to get much of anything done.
  9. quote:Originally posted by alexm: Thinking about camping in the cold... I LOVE cool weather camping. Hard to call anything down here cold! I'd especailly be up for a gathering since I missed the last one.
  10. quote:Originally posted by SR & dboggny:are you coming into NYC buck? My daughter and I will be spending a few days in DC then a couple more in NYC - gotta see the Macys parade We've got a pretty tight schedule, but I was hoping to find a cache or two on the trip. Buck8Point was kind enough to bring Tom Turkey to Pennsyvania (MANY thanks ) Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll be able to make the trip over to see Tom. Any chance someone can give him a ride a little closer to I-95/Jersey Turnpike? Regarless of Tom's location, are there any must find caches between Washington and New York? Thanks in advance!
  11. Aaarrrggghhh. Absolutely fantastic weather. A weekend of geocaching. Camping out in the woods. And I'm stuck at home. Well, at least I get to spend some time with an old friend who's visiting. Otherwise, I'd definitely be with you folks. Have fun and let us know how it goes!!!
  12. quote:Originally posted by welch:what size can is it? i visited a book cache in WA, and this 50cal can had like 7or8 books it, course i think they were all paperbacks Well, it's definitely not a 50 cal. What's the next size smaller? I had to work to get five books in there. 2x2 regular sized paperbacks standing on end, and the slim childrens book squeezed in between.
  13. I placed a bookcrossing.com themed cache, New Orleans Public Library – City Park Branch, about a month ago. For the most part, folks are just logging it, not trading books (or much else for that matter). One problem is that the ammo box only fit 4 or 5 books, and it was a tight squeeze at that. So there’s not much room for even a traditional happy-meal-type trade. One other thing I’ve found is that the couple of original books that have been taken have not been logged on bookcrossing.com. Not really a big deal, but I hoping to see a log or two on the other web site too. Another thing I didn’t expect was the Travel Bug traffic it’s had. This is my first traditional sized cache in a fairly urban/touristy area, so I guess I should have expected it.
  14. How about Sunday afternoon? (if I can drag myself away from the Saints game ) I don't know, what's good for you? Unfortunately crawfish are out of season. If you like oysters tho, you're in luck. Also, try an Abita Amber while you're here. Mmmm, good stuff!
  15. Lots of tree limbs down. I was without power for most of the day. Flooding was worse last week during Isidore, at least in my area (Gentilly/Lakefront). Last Sunday I checked on my Cane Island hydro-cache and it was ok. I wasn't able to get to Seal Team due to high water along the Tchefuncte River. I wonder how they both faired this time around. The news is saying the tidal surge on the North Shore is worse this week. I'm sure there's gonna be a few caches that end up MIA.

  17. I love the Brevard/Pisgah NF area. One of my favorite places in the country!

  19. Hey folks, let's not downplay the power of mother nature. Besides, the government doesn't think it's a good idea for us to play around in the woods so soon after Lili. From the USDA website (link provided by Mudfrog): quote: Today the Forest Service announced the closure of Kisatchie National Forest to all public uses as Hurricane Lili approaches the Gulf Coast. The closure will likely last a week. For more information, see news release.
  20. I hate to be the one to bring this up, but the forecast for the weekend is not looking favorable. If Lili continues on her current path, you'd be hard pressed to find me sleeping in a tent in the woods this weekend. Two computer models put it directly over the gathering some time Friday. Is there a Plan B? What does everyone else think? Am I being too cautious? Russell [This message was edited by rpecot on October 01, 2002 at 11:06 AM.]
