Providing GPSrs to hardship cases sounds like a Clinton program. How about putting the onus on the indiviudals to obtain their own toys? I'm not blind to the needs of the needy and volunteerism, but let's be reasonable. A "GPSr for the needy" fund is way over the top. Just so you know I'm not some grumpy scrouge, I volunteer on two water utility boards, participate in the Econ. Dev. Committee of our local Chamber of Commerce and am a School Board member. My wife donates her time at the local food bank on Tuesdays. I believe in helping out, but for logical purposes. If you really want to help, then donate some food to your foodbank. Would you maintain a tourist's cache if asked?
geoStrider replied to Alan2's topic in General geocaching topics
This thread begs the question about the need for this rule that is currently on the books. I found this under the guidelines for placing a cache. Placing Caches on Vacation Placing caches on vacation is unacceptable and these caches will not be approved on the web site. As the cache owner you are obligated to be in a position to manage your caches, and caches placed on vacation require someone else to maintain them for you. Please be responsible. Strange device uncovered in Iraqi Museum
geoStrider replied to Alan2's topic in General geocaching topics
I read about this too. Wasn't Minrag the half brother of Nimrag? One account has it that it was Nimrag, not Minrag, who made that ancient device. Some believe it was used to receive messages from the lost Sah'teh'lite tribe. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone -

Claypidegeon and Jamie Z, Sounds like what your guys are really debating is something called "Impulse", which is the change of momemtum over time. It has the same units as force, but is a different physical concept. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone

I believe that this would actually be modeled as a conservation of momentum problem, the good old M1V1=M2V2 approach. We could debate whether the collisions are elastic or inelastic, depends on soil types and shoes. It is further complicated by the gyroscopic motion of the earth and the resultant resistance of the earth to change the orientation of its pole. The dispersion of the jumpers around the globe would factor in also, and there would certainly be some offsetting collisions. dadgum, I miss school. Time to fire up the HP and crunch numbers. Not. Claypigeon58 and Renegade Knight are correct - it wouldn't amount to anything material. I'd put my P.E. stamp on that I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. I am unfamiliar with bilibi.com. However, I recently bought a digital camera on-line and all said and done it worked out well. Many of the companies found on-line are New York (electronics district) or NJ based and they make up their discounted price in pushing the accessories. I mean really pushing them. The company I finally bought from actually sent me an email saying there was a problem with my order and I needed to call them (toll free). I called, and it was merely a second attempt to push accessories I had already declined. On a couple of prior purchase attempts, I declined the accessories and the camera suddenly became unavailable/out-of-stock. Also, make sure that you get the American package, not the grey market package as the prior poster noted. One important difference to look out for is that many of the "European" and "Japanese" grey market packages do not contain the cables, software, manuals, one year warranty (vs. 90 day grey market warranty) or any of the other standard accessories common to the same camera you'd buy from your local electronics store. All of this just means you've got to ask questions and get the details. I hope this helps. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone

Here are the stats: Caches Found/Hidden: 46/11 I checked out the posts for the hidden caches. They all seem fine to me. Great in fact. Virtually all of the posts are very positive and complimentary. The rattlers are on the move out here in Arizona. We've run across one at a cache site already, and that was a few weeks ago. One of my sons turned over a rock looking for the cache, and there it was, a good sized rattlesnake ready to strike. Nothing like you've reported though, just a straggler here and there. My favorites are caches where you have to solve some trig or geometry problem to obtain the actual coordinates. For some twisted reason, I find these most rewarding. A cache with a good climb to the peak of some landmark feature is great too. Combine the above, have my boys join me, thrown in one of my lovely wife's lunches, and I've got the best weekend I can imagine! I guess that's a traditional cache, it is for me anyhow.
