  1. Been out of the game for awhile ... Sounds to me like theft of caches has gotten worse ... Sadly , this only makes sense ... More people , more caches ... More theft ... This is the part of the game that stinks , but never the less is an inherent part of it ...
  2. Cemetery Caches are fine.As a student of the American Civil War,cemetery caches give me an oppertunity to visit fallen Heros of the Union.Although this type of cache is not my favorite,I believe that if respect and tact are used they are O.K...God Bless the Union and Abraham Lincoln...
  3. I'd have to say a leaky Gladware container with a wet, moldy log book, filled with rusty key rings that is hidden under a rotting piece of plywood in a feces and debris strewn lot, next to a homeless encampment would fit that category. Of course there is a segment of the population who are thankful for any opportunity to log a smiley and would not find that to be lame, but I'd bet the vast majority of geocachers would. I'm trying to hit a hundred finds here...Geezul-peat...Now thats what I call a ROTFLMAO reply.Your killing me dude...
  4. My proposal is either spend more time out there making the sport better instead of complaining about it, or learn how to type. I am so tired of people going out there and complaining about how much crap is out there and then they don't do anything about it except come into the forums and complain. How do I help the sport? Every full sized cache I place is stocked with CITO containers that are to be taken without trade. Even my micros under lightpoles (I have one so far, but I'm about to make a series with them) are clever or informative. I check my caches periodically, even if all is well with them. I move travel bugs and swag around if one is getting too full or too empty. I take people to interesting locations. Stop complaining and learn how to type...now thats a post we can all sink our teeth into and learn from.
  5. snat, your first point on your last post of this subject,I believe to be correct. However, your second point,I disagree with.Eventually, the people placing Gladeware in dog poop parks will have there limit and will be unable to place more"crapy"(pun intended) Caches...Limitations are only a thought.I know that everytime somebody makes a suggestion for a change, people get up tight about it and start on that "We already have enough rules"stuff. At least with this forum post may-be people will put more effort into there Caches that they place and what they may leave behind in a cache...
  6. Not so...There are many veteran Cachers that throw junk under bushes, distinct area are not.I'm not buying that...
  7. The problem briansnat is not "numerous, excellent Caches."It is otherwise.I believe it is starting to a problem.
  8. Nice thought-out reply Blue Deuce...Keep thoes posting numbers coming.
  9. Look at what has happened in the past two years to Geocaching. When I started Geocaching two years ago, Cache quality and placement seemed to be a more thought-out process. Now there seems to be more lame Caches with more lame Geo-swag placed in lame locations.I'll admit it,I have not been the best person for logging "did not find",something that I will pay closer attition too and will partisipate in from now on,I should have logged these Caches that are so much more often now becoming the norm, and did not. There are Cachers in my area that place Cache after Cache when they have no way of maintaining such a large number of game pieces.I call these "Drive by Caches,"Caches that are practically thrown out of the car window as the placer drives by an area.Coords are off,the container looks like crap and the contents are total junk...My proposal is this;limit the number of Caches that a Cacher can place. Its as simple as that. This will make people(hopefully) take more time and effort to place a Cache.I maintain mine, others should do the same.I take pride in my Caches and they are of good quality. And for Cachings sake,TRADE FAIRLY.Is it all about the log?For some yes,I myself, love finding pins, buttons and patches, not wet, soggy, dog chewed Mctoys that take up Cache space and will never be traded anyway.I love finding the above mintioned items,Its awesome when I do,its a great thrill. We as a community need to swing the momentium of Caching upward,I feel that it is otherwise.I love Caching and Geocaching.com,but I am starting to fear that it is going to get so bad that nobody is going to care and this game that I love so much will cease to exist.
  10. Just reading through the forums when the subject of oldest Cache was mentioned. How would one be able to find a listing for the oldest Cache in his or her State?I'm in Ohio and I think it would be cool to hunt the oldest in my home state.Any ideas?
  11. O.K. here's the story.Myself (CWOPER) and Punkers had planed a fast trip to Canada from southern Ohio to Cache.I wanted to be able to say that I had Cached in two countries. So,with 60 Caches programed into our GPSs(not all Canada, some Michigan, some Ohio)we headed out in the early morn. 5 or 6 hours later we arrived at the U.S. and Canadian border in Detroit/Windsor,7:30ish Ohio time. The Canadian border guards then precieded to bombard us with questions and unwarented suspision. They could not believe that we were going to stay in Canada for just one day.It was like "hiking in Canada, why would you want to do something like that,it makes no sence, your up to no good Americans."Then the bombshell hit,It was like a scean out of Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant..."Have you ever been arested...?"I had not,but punker's had,...a D.U.I. two years ago.Now its over to the next border guard for more intensive intarigation...the same stuff only now they have a dangerious AMERICAN at thier border. When he got done with us,it was immigrations turn to hassel us,and believe me they did.Threats of jail for trying to cross the border with a criminal record, stupid Americans should know better.Know what better? He got poped with a DUI and paid the price two years ago!!! Needless to say,we were "DE"nied as undesirabils. With Passports, birthcertificates and drivers licences in hand, we were pointed back to the U.S. and told never try this again for 10 years are pay some money to be reinstated. Needless to say, we had the best time Caching in Michigan and upstate Ohio, and bumbed very little.May God bless Canada, they need all the help they can get.
  12. me too... I even married one...
  13. Garmin Etrex Legend...My four year old Magellan Color Trax up and died on me,so...Garmin it is.
  14. Sometimes you kill me Snat!!! My first find was a Mossberg Viking button and thats my #1 best item.
  15. I have a Cache that is ready to place that I am going to call:Buttons,Patches and Pins.Trade either or for either or(Does that sound right?).I think that it would be cool to see what different types of these items are placed into my Cache, and be able to keep track by the log listings.Seeing how these items are what I most like to find in Caches,I thought it would be interesting to watch from the otherside.Having a Cache for pins only...Awesome!!! I'd love to hunt it. Go for it!!!
  16. Bad news today...Cache scattered, log book missing. It's a sad aspect of this game, but a part of it none the less.Out of 5 Caches hidden,2 have been lost. One, I archived for a different reason.Thats 2 out of five.I'll admit it that one of my hides was in a high traffic area and that I was prepared for it to go to Cache Heaven. However, the one that I lost today was hidden well(not well enough I guess) and not in a high traffic area.I feel like I have lost a good friend .What kind of numbers are we looking at for Caches placed that have been lost.Just curious, thought it might make an interesting topic.Keep on Caching...I know I will!!!
  17. I vote for Benhamtroll for President!!! You want to know if it's cool to leave small works of art in a Cache?...YES!!! Stop by and visit Southwest Ohio anytime.Way too cool!!!
  18. Are you serious? No offense, really, are you serious? Do a forum search for all the threads about WAAS, and you'll have enough to keep you busy for a month! To actually answer your question, yes, I can tell a difference....it makes my batteries drain faster. Other than that, WAAS is a total waste of my time. The two or three times I've actually let it set long enough to acquire WAAS (up to an hour once, two hours another time), it got me an accuracy reading of 9 or 10 feet. I get 12 to 16 feet normally without WAAS, and have had as low as 7 feet without it. The GPSr is sluggish on updates, etc with WAAS on, so for me it's a total waste of time....that's the story from Kansas..... Yes Sparky,I'm serious.I have had a GPSr for 4 years and have recently bought a new model that has WAAS.Just wanting some recent input from my fellow Cachers. How serious are you? No offense Sparky, really, how serious are you?
  19. Does anybody enable their WAAS and have any luck with it?Any tricks I should know about when using this feature. What do you think?I would be intrested in reading any thoughts on this subject.
  20. FarsideX and McKenzie Clan both your suggestions were excellent.I had done the advanced search that was pointed out to me before and it kept asking for a street #.Tried it again and it worked.Maybe the blood had something to do with it.The Yellow pages worked great too,Thanks Fellow Cachers.
  21. Thanks for the reply OG,but it doesn't help me much. They want a street address. There has to be a site that just needs province and city to get the postal code for that area.
  22. I'm getting mad here fellow Cachers.I have searched in vain for a site to get a simple postal code in Canada.I need the postal code so I can look up Caches for a trip that I am planning to Canada. You know, enter the province and city,GET THE POSTAL CODE!!! U.S. postal codes,no problem.Somebody help me before blood shoots from my eyes and ears and I have a massive heart attack!!!God Bless America.
