  1. Well done Paul. Are you having nightmares about rabbits yet? Regards from Switzerland!!!
  2. Just heard the news from Geoff (Geoff and Bonnie). What a real shame. I met Mark on a few occasions and you could tell how much he enjoyed the sport. I regularly use his website and find it very useful. I particularly remember the Fox Hunt last year where Geoff and I raced up to the Garmin office in Romsey to catch him. We were soon joined by others and as June said earlier it turned into a cache meet. I can only send my condolences to all his family and friends and say that he will be sadly missed. Totally agree with the Gavotteers. He took nothing but left loads!!!
  3. Check out my caches all close to Romsey. If you try Abbey View I suggest breaking for a while to take your three your old in the playground. That should pacify them for a while although you may have problems getting them out again. There are a few others in the vicinity. Just type Romsey into Geocacheuk.com cache search page. Have fun!
  4. How about being shot whilst out caching!!!! I was shot while in park in Southampton by a yob with an air rifle. The pellet lodged in my ear and had to be cut out at hospital. Needless to say that I won't be going back to complete the cache (now archived).
  5. Seriously, thanks everyone for your kind words. Its been great fun being part of this sport for the last year and a quarter. My favourites would have to be Tumuli Turmoil of course as I still hold the record for the quickest time (and Omally might hit me otherwise!!), the caches I did in Switzerland and Majorca last year and too many to mention in this country. I also particularly enjoy the event caches as I get to meet others as mad as myself.
  6. Thanks Motley Crew. Very witty!!!! And do ask Omally how to spell my name correctly next time......or was that in retaliation for car sabotaging?????????
  7. Well done both of you. Nice to have met you again near Windsor a few weeks ago. Here's to the next 100!!!
  8. If anyone wants a hard copy then let me know as I work at the OS.
  9. Well done Lizeeeeeeeeee. Look forward to hearing from you soon. Krazy Kats.
  10. As the OS Surveyor who was at the Farley Mount event, I was probably the person MCL spoke to. I'm surprised that these points are being referred to as Benchmarks. They are not generally used for heighting which is what you'd associate BM's to be. This point in particular is I think a GPS station which is used for surveying purposes. Its used to base surveys from, as it is a known, coordinated point. The cross or crosscut as it's known, is the point itself and the centre of that cut is the actual coordinated point. It would usually have a punch mark in the centre too. Obviously we would not mark on the main drain cover where the paint is, as this can be turned. The point has to be permanent and stable. I've enjoyed making these marks in the past myself, although putting a brass rivet into a kerb was more fun. Sad I know! As for the paint, I can only think it was put there by someone as a marker to point out where the cross was. Many people use these points for surveying purposes. As for buried blocks. I only know of one near Chertsey that I had to dig down to. Once found I was then able to set the theodolite up on it and commence the survey work. I hope this has helped. If anyone wants anymore info. then just email me and I'll try and help.
  11. Thanks Olar. I will follow that advice. A Happy New Year to you and all fellow Geocachers over there in Canada. We've got about 50 mins to go!
  12. What an achievement. I don't think I'll be catching you up just yet. Well done and good luck on the next 100!!
  13. Hello fellow cachers. I am trying to do the Locationless cache called 'Where's in a name - GC3153', and have come up with Longitude 57W29.95. I was trying to find places on the map and have found that Pynns Brook and Corner Brook in Newfoundland are near this line of longitude. Are there any other cachers in that area or anywhere else on the line who could help me out with this cache. I would be extremely grateful if anyone could help and of course you get to log the cache as well. Thanks, Krazy Kats.
  14. As I'm too late to wish everyone a Happy Christmas, I'll wish you all a brilliant Caching New Year instead!!!
  15. Thought you might have picked up Doree the fish that we left in Compton School Cache. We have loads of old McD toys under beds etc. that some might leave, but instead we left a current toy in its unopened bag. I know my kids are thrilled if they find the missing toy in their latest collection. We don't visit McD's each week to enable the kids to collect every toy so finding one is great for them. Admittedly some toys that you find have seen better days! I would only place one if it was a current toy and in good condition. It's not always about what us adults want to find in the box!
  16. Do you think it's enough of a challenge for Woodsmoke to get up there and be the 8th?????????
  17. The Krazy Kats will be there. Looking forward to it.
  18. Well after looking back through my logs, it appears that I found 103 caches before placing one of my own. I'm sure The Cookie Crew will be able to beat that now!!
  19. How about we just all meet at a pub somewhere that does food, so that we can have an Xmas social. Perhaps if someone is planning on setting a cache in the South somewhere we could tie it in with the event. I don't mind organising it if we can agree on a venue to meet on that Saturday. I think its a good idea to have it on the 13th so that those who want to carry on into the night, can.
  20. No. 2 is the Krazy Kats with Colin and no. 3 is Krazy Kat, Colin and Adam.
  21. quote:Originally posted by Firth of Forth:As a relative newcomer to geocaching I feel dismayed reading this kind of stuff in the forums. I thought it was all about people having a bit of fun, getting out into the countryside or exploring parts of towns and cities not visited before, and occasionally meeting others sharing the interest. This kind of debate just puts me off, and I hope that those getting drawn into a 'political' side of geocaching are in the minority of those involved in the 'sport'. No doubt someone will post an irate reply to this, and I will not bother looking on the forums again. Hello and welcome to geocaching. I'm so sorry you were dismayed at what you were reading on the forums. I too felt like you a few months ago and now very rarely read them as I just get angry at how rude and disrespectful some people choose to be. If you truely enjoy geocaching, as I do, then carry on but don't take this part too seriously. If you manage to get to any events you will soon see that most people are really lovely and its a pleasure to share a common interest with them. Happy Caching!!
  22. Not sure if anyone remembers, but a few months ago someone had put notes on some of the New Forest caches saying that they should not be there because it was Forestry Commission land. I remember thinking that I would wait and see whether the owners removed them before I went out to have a go at finding them. Unfortunately I can't remember who this was and can't find any mention of these notes on any caches now. Is it possible for them to have been removed? Hopefully all those owners with caches that had these notes on may be able to recollect the name. I would suggest that this may be the person we're talking about here.
