  1. The advert below has been placed in the Primary Times which is circulated through schools to all parents of primary school children. Should be out around 9th July. Two radio broadcasts have gone out and another one today. [This message was edited by THE BRAMBLERS on July 03, 2003 at 09:43 AM.]
  2. There are still a few things to add to the web site, i.e. story board with pics. It will be updated soon.
  3. We have sent a press release to all TV and radio stations in the area. We have also booked space in all the relevant newspapers.
  4. Quote by Groundspeak:- We truly commend the Hampshire County Council on being the first land owning/managing authority to take such a progressive step. It will undoubtedly be a benefit to all. OK guys, we guess this is what you’ve been waiting for. We’re on! Please visit www.hants.gov.uk/geocaching
  5. Hi all We haven't quite finished the geocaching pages on HCC yet. We were hoping to get them finalised before anyone saw them, but IT Services have put them up in error. We have worked hard on this and really wanted it to be at it's best when you saw it. David and Debbie
  6. As the time is drawing near, quite alot of cachers have expressed an interest in camping and helping out at the event on the 19th July. For those people we will be issuing passes, one for the tent and one for the car. Camping is for helpers only. Camping available Friday 18th from 5 pm until 12 noon Sunday 20th. Toilets available. Sorry no caravans. Dogs allowed. Fresh water. BBQ - please bring your own food and drink. Camping will only be permitted for those with passes. We will therefore need to know definite numbers, so those requiring passes please post here.
  7. Originally posted by Team Paradise quote:I'm happy to bring along a couple to make up the numbers... they're nothing special tho'... Thanks Team Paradise, we will be pleased to display them. The main reason for the display, as I said in my last post, is to show the geomuggles what great places we visit when we are out geocaching.
  8. We have had 5 replies with around 10 - 15 photo's, so thanks very much for those offers. We still need more photo's to make a really good and worthwhile display so come on you lot, we know there are some great photo's out there -we've seen them on the cache pages! The photo's don't have to be UK only as long as they were taken whilst out geocaching and they only need to be mounted on card. The display will be in a marquee. If anyone wants to enter but isn't attending the event, they can send their photo's by post and include enough postage stamps for their return. So come on everyone, let's show the geomuggles what wonderful places we visit on our geocaching travels. Debbie
  9. Some of you asked a while back how will the public know who we are and there were a few suggestions. HCC will be producing badges for those helping out. The badges will simply say "Geocaching Assistant". Apparently they have been done using the colours of geocaching.com. Haven't actually seen them yet.

  11. At the Winchester event on 19th July we are hoping to have a display and competition of scenic photo's taken by cachers whilst out on their caching travels. We will obviously need to have a good number of photo's so if any of you would like to exibit one or more, please could you let us know on this thread, stating the number you would like to enter. The photo's would need to be mounted and no larger than 10" by 8" including mount. The photographs will be judged by a Photographic Alliance judge and the winners will be awarded certificates. We will let you have further details if there are enough entries to make a good display.
  12. Originally posted by Gaz, Suni, Jack & Kashi quote:We are now sooooo excited about the 19th!!! Great to see you are looking forward to the event. I was caught "on the hop" with this interview, hence the couple of small inaccuracies one on my part and one on the interviewer's, but hopefully it gave a good impression of geocaching. Dunlop Greens, yeh I have to admit I had a pair of those.

  14. Originally posted by Richard & Beth quote:The one we have was sold as a 'spare key' stones, and was inherited from a previous owner of the house paranoid about locking themselves out. The stones on sale at Hawkins Bazaar are actually sold as "spare key stones". I don't know how our 18 year old would fair after coming home in the early hours and trying to find a stone with a key in it! Debbie
  15. Originally posted by Omally quote:Chesil Beach, eh? Hmm... sounds good. Merman, what say you? Hey Omally, you don't need to wait to get these, they are already here. You can buy them at Hawkins Bazaar shops or at www.hawkin.com. You could probably get a bucket and spade there as well!
  16. Originally posted by Pharisee quote: posted June 10, 2003 06:23 AM Peoples, with all the 'events' coming up over the summer, it would really help OFs like me to keep track of what's going on and when if you'd make a brief entry in the calender that's available on the G:UK site. We did try to post the Winchester event on the G:UK calendar a few weeks ago, but for some reason it didn't work. We will try again. Also by Pharisee quote:it would be a shame (and somewhat churlish) not to take advantage of it. We are as we speak about to order some merchandise from Mark for the Winchester event. GeocacheUK.com will be mentioned in the event literature, and in any media publicity that we are organising.
  17. Emptied out the backpack at 10.30 pm after a days caching and found a log book in there. Aaah! What's that doing in there? A quick check of the cache page only to find two more logs for the same day saying how disappointed they were that there was no log book in the cache. We threw it in there in a mad rush after being surprised by a gang of geomuggles and forgot to put it back in the cache. Well it was only 2" x 2"! Needless to say, up at the crack of dawn the next morning to replace it. [This message was edited by THE BRAMBLERS on June 03, 2003 at 02:00 PM.]
  18. Originally posted by plaid-dragon quote:I am considering taking some leave in the area, starting with this event, and doing as many of the local caches as possible in the few days following. You mentioned camping for people helping out? Oh, and would my dog also be welcome? If you are intending to help out, then camping is available on the evening of Friday 18th until 12 noon on Sunday 20th. Your dog is welcome to come along.
  19. Originally quoted by Team Hydro quote:Does this still mean you'd like cachers to buy TB's for their local schools? We'd be happy to buy one for our childrens school and one for the school where I teach? Just to make things a little clearer, HCC will be releasing three travel bugs from the event. These are being made by a local artist and will represent rare bugs found in Hampshire. Schools will be made aware of this and how they can track the bugs' travels on the internet. There is no need for anyone to buy anything for the event, but if they wish to do something independently with their school then that would be fine.
  20. Thanks for the congrat's guys. Looking forward to meeting all those going to the Winchester event. Debbie, David and boys
  21. Originall posted by Motley Crew quote:Taking into account the potential misgivings/problems of children and the Internet I think it would be wise to have something 'official' when contacting schools. Is there any 'Official' letter/document that we can use (or refer to) when approaching the schools, maybe refer to something from the HCC? The HCC Marketing Department are currently liaising with the Education Dept. on the releasing of travels bugs for the event. Head Teachers should be aware of this shortly. HCC are also intending to set up a Geocaching page on their site.
  22. Originally posted by Motley Crew quote:A thought. Instead of releasing 3 bugs for schools to track how about a Travel Bug for each school? I'd be happy to purchase the bug for each of my daughters schools (if, of course, there is interest), perhaps other cachers would be prepared to pay for the bug for their kids school or perhaps a school near to where they live. Good idea. The best way forward would probably be as you suggest, parents approaching schools and purchasing their own travel bugs. Logistically it wouldn't be practical for us to do this from the event as there are over 500 schools in our area alone.
  23. quote: Do we know what's being done to promote the event to non-cachers? Any idea how many are expected to turn up? The event will be promoted through the press, radio and TV. Schools publications will also be promoting it. We will be releasing three travel bugs for schools to track, hopefully around the world. There will also be other attractions that we are in the process of negotiating at present. David and Debbie
  24. Great to see you've reached your first century. We did order a red carpet, but it didn't arrive in time. Well done Neil. Debbie and David
  25. Congratuations on your century Kevin and Michael. We have only ever bumped into other cachers twice and both times it was you. We hope you will be able to help out at the Winchester event on 19th July, especially with all your experience.
