  1. No I would not describe DVD or VHS tapes as being either cult, iconic or rather expensive. Some will define this not as a consumable but as a Durable instead.
  2. A noble guess but the Ipod hit the streets in October 2001 so no. So its clue time, I could have added the following:- What late 20C and early 21C very successful, cult, iconic and rather expensive consumerable, was said to have been sold to its commissioning bosses as 'costing 50% of X but having a 50% greater profit margin than X'? Although very British in its 'genes' was not of these shores This btw hit the streets around 1989
  3. What late 20C and early 21C successful cult iconic consumerable was said to have been sold to its commissioning bosses as 'costing 50% of X but having a 50% greater profit margin than X'? (where X was a similar product sold by said producer)
  4. YOSM's are just a clever manipulation of the rules. The difference is that we know where the next 6000 (?) odd are already located! Do you know in advance where my next cache is going to be hidden? I somewhat doubt it. YOSM's in this current rolling format should not have been allowed and TPTB know that but have done nothing about it.
  5. Well therefore the 'Oscars' are a particular type/class of satellite dedicated to communications and hence our total dependence on their very existence. And nothing to do with a little ceremony that takes place in Hollywood every spring.
  6. It became available as a satellite broadcast. No idea what therefore happened after 1996 though. Or a particular satellite was then used for the military use of their own gps's
  7. Fugawi for your maps (@£49 for the whole of Southern England and Wales below Ipswich in one hit is a good deal and very simple to operate. (Memory Map more expensive and more complicated) PDA, An Acer, (the Germans like them)
  8. Oh, OK then, how about "types of fog"? Advection, Ground, Sea and Hail. Oh - look Gaz beat me to it...! I'll have to give a Ding to milvus-milvus as he did say Pea souper right from the start. (sorry Gaz) Radiation or Ground fog Radiation fog is formed on clear, still nights when the ground loses heat by radiation, and cools. Advection fog Advection fog is formed when very mild moist air moves over a cold ground. Hill fog Hill fog or upslope fog, as its name implies, is formed as mild moist air is forced to ascend a hill or mountain range. Sea fog Some coastal regions of the British Isles suffer from 'sea fog' which forms when moist air is cooled to saturation point by travelling over a cooler sea. Steam fog 'Steam fog' is sometimes seen rising from the ground after a shower. If the ground is warm, the water from the shower may evaporate. Ice or Freezing fog Ice / Freezing fog is composed of supercooled water droplets (i.e. ones which remain liquid even though the temperature is below freezing-point) So now you know.
  9. Energy? No I am waiting on a certain Red Kite to complete his answer.
  10. Didn't you miss out "Pea Souper"? Baz Would you like to elucidate a bit further?
  11. Radiation, Ice, Steam, A********, S**, G***** and H*** are all types of what?
  12. Lochranza!!!!!!!!!!! Cache And reading the map I thought the location would not have been as open as it is.
  13. Too true, too true. And it does not matter whether its digital or paper. Its an art that appears not to be taught in schools anymore and even from what I have seen, the DOE scheme does not seem to address it very well either.
  14. I've been looking at my digital maps for contenders but difficult to locate a settlement thats at a head on a north facing glaciated valley. No Guiness Book of Records here to consult either.
  15. Methinks that this could be an advert for Arran,......... and there are a couple of geographic contenders,........... and there are a number of caches that have the name of Jango & Boba Fett against them.
  16. I was surprised by the outcry to retain the OS coordinates as I have for some years become exclusively digital and therefore only rely on the WGS84 format. I love the old paper OS and have many including the four local ones when I first started in this madness. But they were soon discarded never to be opened again when I acquired my first digital map. All my cache location and route planning is now on screen for uploading to PDA and can say that I am about 90% paperless. So the simple question is, who still uses the OS paper maps and who uses Digital (Memory Map, Fugawi etc.)?
  17. Well my original complaint appears to have been fixed, but the OS map appears to be frozen somewhere in Scotland in all the caches I have looked at.
  18. Unfortunately to far from me but I will add, The Alchemy Quest still remains the best I have done and should be preserved in aspic for all to enjoy. Please look after it well whoever takes it one.
  19. Lights or Signals SP? Both are in cities and both in squares that I have been in. I'll leave others to answer it though.
  20. From timbuckley.com: Coroner's Report, Dr. Joseph H. Choi: Timothy Charles Buckley III died on June 29, 1975 at 9:42pm from acute heroin/morphine and ethanol intoxication due to inhalation and ingestion of overdose. So you were a couple of years out I think. Well done to imajica though. I though that was a tough question. a. Trping error I am afraid, saw Tim Buckley June 1974 Radio 1 and 2 full of Jeff Buckley last night.
  21. I was going to say Jeff Buckley but I think the dates are wrong for Tim Buckley. This was going to be my question the other day and I went for Zappa at the last second. Well I'll give it a DING As those are my dates, father in bed on the night of 28th but pronouced dead on the 29th
  22. Who died 10 years ago yesterday 29th May aged 31, somewhat prematurely and a great miss to many people, just like his father who died 29th July 1977 aged 28.
  23. Well apart from the fact that it is an event, not a event. Could it not be written as by 2202 (an event cache) by 2202 (a micro cache) by 2202 (a large cache) etc etc.. Tony (Off sick and nothing much else to do)
