  1. This Tuesday evening, May 13th, I am staying at the Chequers Inn just below Jonah's Journey and would appreciate company in attempting the cache. Anyone interested please email me through my profile. Trouble is I am 15 stone and 6'3" tall so might not fit.
  2. How do you intend we get the message out to the others? I would have thought that GSP could easily turn off the cache placed in United Kingdom option when submitting a cache for review, for a period of time until new reviewers are in place. Dec and Erik will be resigning under the mountain of new caches to be reviewed pile otherwise. What has happened has happened, head up and move forward. The truth will come out in the end.
  3. Can I suggest that we hold a moratorium on all new cache listings until Deceangi and Erik have adequate support to undertaking the reviewing process. Also given the increasing cache density out there, would it now be appropriate to limit the number of caches that one can place? Or place a hurdle of say 50 cache finds before a placement can be approved. I would also suggest that the proximity rule be altered to increase the distance between caches.especially those that form a series where at times you are nearly tripping over them as you take on the series. In terms of reviewers locations, with current numbers of new caches being placed, is the 3 way split that has been in place up to the start of the week, to broad, and that we need more reviewers covering less area. Scotland, Wales, South of the M4 corridor, M4 north to Wash/Wrexham. Wash/Wrexham to the borders?
  4. Well you know those Americans are 200 miles out and behind with everything ! LOL ! I suppose its better than the old "Watford Standard" that was 30ft out all the time. And thats also how far out their shooting is at the moment. Seriously though, easter meet up with in-laws over Bedford yesterday so took BIL and his two children out to get three local ones, one part of the Bedford's Easter Egg Hunt. well it was only 400 metres away. and two down by the river. He revealed that they were thinking of getting a gps (they had been out with me on two other occassions) as friends of theirs liked a walk but just could not get their kids walking, and therefore deduced that getting the caching will help all. Well our walk was successful, with one very good hide which baffled them when I pulled it out of the hat so to speak, and another well hidden which the eldest found under supervision. Anyway to cut a long story short, get back to the house, open Sunday Times Travel section, and lo and behold, the said article. My wife moaned!
  5. Had similar problem myself yesterday with my Etrex but today, right as rain, or should I say snow. Guess the problem is at Garmins end and not the gps.
  6. I would amend your hint by say making it very cryptic but very specific to where the nano is hidden. It therefore becomes a minor puzzle. Or remove the hint altogether and add, as I have on my Chiltern Hundreds series, a little rhyme that links the subject with the hiding place. This from Chiltern Hundreds: Neil Kinnock The Welsh Windbag some would say, Deserves this lofty windswept way, From Islwyn to Mountain Ash, Its bole protects this little cache. The clue is that you need to know your Welsh geography and have an interest in trees.
  7. Totally agree Moss, I have been banging on for the last three years about quality over quantity but seemed if no one paid any interest. The circular walks are a nice diversion though as you do get some quality time in a specific area. We should set up some exemplars as a pointer to all.
  8. Thinks we may have to put the 'real' link back in until Edgemaster can really do the business.
  9. Don't think BikerKats link is a very good, or right one come to that.......Bookmark deletion?.
  10. Most of the Morse suburban scenes were shot in Ealing as they were close to the studio. However wherever you walk in Oxford is featured in one movie or another, or tv come to think of it.
  11. Sounds like you support a club that wanted to be first, but then decided that the eventual goal may not be worth it. And are therefore prepared to come second or have a playoff for it.
  12. The interest in circular walks has risen in my view, partly due to the price hike in fuel. With petrol at £1.05 and diesel at £1.10 a litre (glad I get over 65mpg in my Megane), dashing around the countryside after a cache here and another there starts becoming questionable. The ability to arrive at one destination and then get a very decent walk in with a number of caches thrown in somewhat ameliorates the pain emanating from ones pocket. The only draw back I can see with them is that the hides / containers become slightly boring as they have been set by one person. What I think is required is a collaborative effort, under a theme, where different cachers place caches along a prescribed route, thereby achieving a degree of variety that previously was not available. So calling all Oxford based cachers, would you like to collaborate in a 6 mile circular, great views etc in the vicinity of the city? It already has a great theme and four caches have already been placed of different shapes and sizes (not a 35mm cassette in sight) but not published. If you are interested then contact me off thread. Otherwise it will be summer before I can put it all together by myself. Two to recommend though. Chilterns Ramble and the Ridgeway Ramble, all close to Nettlebed, just north of Henley on Thames
  13. It would be good if someone could organise a bookmark list of circular walks and pin it as a constant thread. I would love to do it myself, but life is so busy at the moment that time is a bit precious. Can someone take on the mantle please?
  14. Cheers to all. Sorted! 5 pocket queries centered at different locations around a 100 mile radius of home taking in 500 caches each time (Trads). Loaded into GSAK then used the filter with Hill in the Cache name. That revealed 56 of which I suppose 10 meet the requirement 100% BINGO
  15. With now 3 in total, I am looking to do all my 100's on a cache with the word Hill in their title. But a pocket query does not cover keywords and a keyword search did not bring up anything either. Any ideas? Or if you of any let me know, it would be much appreciated.
  16. Good God, its over 15 miles long. You would not want to run out of petrol in that one!
  17. I heard that a number of problems caused by 'walkers' lost were due to the fact that they had left too late in the day to undertake the walk they had planned. The experienced fell walker who made the point added that he would see numerous people walking up the fell after lunch when he was returning after setting out earlier in the day.
  18. I have a growing affection for circular walks where a good number of caches can be gained en route. They certainly have taken over from multis which I do not have any affection for (one digit out and your lost, or having to look for the early numbers when they are a given anyway, don’t the setters realise that?) A new one in South Oxfordshire recently yielding 12 caches in a three and half hour walk, up and down dale and squelchy mud. Some were rather obviously placed but with the sun setting, no bad thing. Box Hill also two weeks ago garnered six caches in a very up and down walk, was equally enjoyable. The big point was that all I had to do was park the car up once, and then fresh air. It does beat driving from one location to another. I agree that a '5/9 for the day' log says bugger all and I have now tried myself to write up the logs as if they were part of an ongoing story. So I am now in the planning stage of a 5 mile circular walk with all sizes of caches from nano to regular, and about 700 metres apart. Just to give something back to those who have given to me. Begins and ends by a pub, up and down dale, and an educational content to each cache description that is linked with the location (too often they are not, for whilst I enjoyed it, what has Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs got to do with Box Hill?). We need more circular walks, and if you want to call them a power trail, then thats all right by me.
  19. Any entrance fee required to gain access to a cache must be noted in the cache description. A number of locations where an entrance fee is required do have back doors available to the locals. Westonbirt Arbouretum springs to mind as does Blenheim Palace (get in free!!!) and both will save you oodles of money.
  20. Would a little fund raising help to upgrade the hardware. I for one would put my hand in my pocket. (I just love those little red dots all over (or not as the case maybe) the map)
  21. Like it a lot and I will be adopting it on all my puzzles. Still open to give out hints and receive queries though.
  22. Can a reviewer strike through the Cornwall caches please.
  23. All I have to say is QUALITY, not quantity, that matters.
  24. Wrong Side of the Track has gone to the Rainbow Chasers Can a reviewer strike that one out please. Wake up you Cornish Lot!!!
