  1. From my unedited OP. We have three numbers in agreement and one out of whack. Why do you believe the OR odometer is correct? Had to read your post again, this time a little closer. Indeed, that is odd!
  2. Could it be that it's the Colorado that is off? It would seem to me that the Oregon is a newer and superior unit.
  3. If it works in one unit but not the other,I would say it's a glitch in the Oregon 450 not the pre-programmed SD card. If you haven't done so already, try updating the unit with the latest firmware.
  4. One could also consider the Colorado as it's also a great unit when purchased for $200.00
  5. You're going to have to be very careful. If you have one of those fancy phones that is always using data in the background,it will give you a cardiac arrest when your next bill arrives and you see the data roaming charges. Some GPS phones allow you to turn off the data connection. Just depends if the GPS hardware in your phone can function independently without a data connection. Since you never mentioned the type of phone you have,it may be a good idea to determine what type of GPS system is built into the phone.
  6. Since you have both units,do you mind doing some more side-by-side comparisons before returning the 62st? The 62 series has significantly more software upgrades/enhancements for the time being. Putting that aside,it would certainly help current Colorado owner's decide if it's worth the upgrade.
  7. If you had waited a month, the Colorado would have been fine. All those issues were fixed years ago. I've had a Colorado since March of 2008. It's been a good performer and rock-solid since I purchased it. Never really understood why Garmin has to be so inconsistent with it's new products, just look at the thread on the 62.
  8. There is likely to be another software update coming on the heals of the recent beta's for the 62/78,Dakota and Oregon lines based on the Colorado's latest software being beta 3.42. It's a fantastic buy at $200.00!
  9. It would seem that your GPS unit is not recognizing the SD card and/or the map. Have you tried putting the SD card into any other Garmin GPS unit that will accept the card? If it's a micro SD within an adaptor, make sure it's seated properly. You may want to check with the seller on eBay that sold it to you for assistance.
  10. Look.... You are wrong. All of the newer handheld units starting at the Colorado use SDHC or regular SD. Like I said earlier, I'm using an SDHC and I have over 10 GB of data that the GPS uses with no problems. Colorados use full sized SD (or SDHC) cards. All the other ones use microSD or microSDHC. I've tested three different SDHC cards on my Colorado. 4GB class 6,8GB class 4 and 16GB class 4. They all work fine. Nice thing about the Colorado is that you can use both full size and micro SD cards with an adaptor.
  11. I use a mix of "regular" and low self discharge NiMH. I usually keep the LSD cells for backup. Keeping LSD cells primarily for backup is a great idea!
  12. Anyone looking for a great deal on 4 AA Low Self Discharge batteries may be interested in going on ebay an typing in this exact search: nimh 2050mah . For less than $7.50 what more do you want!
  13. I've run webupdater and it's still offering the Hotfix update even though I installed it the day before. Very strange indeed. Acquisition time seems to be much faster, perhaps it's my imagination. My typical experience is an EPE of 3m as the norm and occasionally it will drop down to 2m with WAAS.
  14. The latest GPS software version is still 2.9. I'm using beta 3.42 since it came out on June 1st without any issues. Don't know what Garmin has in mind for 3.5,not expecting much though.
  15. Another good brand from the world's largest battery manufacturer is the low-discharge GP Recyko.
  16. I was a bit mystified seeing what I thought was another Hotfix update which appeared the same as last year. Not sure if was because I was having some issues and had to roll back the firmware to an earlier version and reinstall the latest beta 2.42. Perhaps it blew out the Hotfix update when I rolled it back. It seemed to all stem from when I added an all white background .jpg image for easier viewing which caused the unit to shut down when selecting a different background.
  17. Is this just an update for Hotfix? Thought it was working fine already!
  18. I do agree that the R&R is a great concept and perhaps better than multiple buttons, the issue is with the way you must select characters and numbers displayed on the screen. Since you have a Colorado, have a look at the calculator and how you can scroll around the keypad and select the number you wish;why is it they couldn't have offered this option for searches when inputing characters and numbers. Spinning the R&R on a grid display to move from one character(or number)to the next,or rocking the wheel to scroll over a grid would have been nice. Again,I agree with your view on the Colorado 2,other than to say denying the 60 lovers and updated unit would be bad for business. What's one more option to confuse they hell out of buyers trying to decide on their next purchase, just look at all the threads asking for advice on what to buy over the last year.
  19. I'll bet that was a big part of it. The bad design of the battery cover, allowing it to leak. Also, a LOT of people didn't like the rock-n-roller interface, either. Can't really fix those things without recalling them all and I'm pretty sure Garmin wasn't going to do that. It was just easier and more feasible to create an entirely new GPS line, aka the Oregon, and basically abandon the Colorado. Imagine how many pissed off consumers they'd have if they magically release a much better, "new and improved" Colorado right after everyone ran out and bought one because it was the latest and greatest. And even MORE consumers that might hold off (like myself) on buying the "latest and greatest" because a major non-firmware fixable update might just be right around the corner. iPhone syndrome... Commenting on the battery cover, seems the newer version corrected the possibility of this occurring, provided the user made sure the cover was properly installed. Looking at the back cover,it appears that it could have been constructed in two parts with a smaller battery access screw-lock type section within the main back cover. The R&R character input mystifies me as the calculator function allows you to scroll over the numbers and press enter to input like you would with an eTrex/60 series, yet it's not an option for general character and number input. I would agree with you on Garmin being reluctant to improve the Colorado software as they likely don't want consumers to view it as being one of their achievements.
  20. Number 3. is one of life's great mysteries! Never thought the software engineers at Garmin could not find a way to overcome what is probably one of the most important and assumed to be simple changes. It's my opinion that Garmin still has an opportunity for redemption on the Colorado line. The irony would be for the Colorado to become well sought after in the after market.
  21. I got to thinking about the 62 series and it's release, seems to me it hasn't been as much as a show-stopper compared to when the Colorado was released 2 1/2 years ago. Back then there was a thread that had over 1000 posts on the unit, perhaps it was due to it being the first unit to have paperless caching(never mind the issues). The Oregon made a splash for it's touch screen and the Dakota to a lesser extent for it's size. Would it be fair to say the 62 is only for the most part a 60 with some hardware and software changes/upgrades? I still don't fully understand the discontinuation of the Colorado line, surely Garmin could have worked on improving the software, unless there is an issue with the hardware that was too challenging for software engineers to overcome.
  22. Has anyone that also owns a Colorado and has recently purchased one of the new 62 models could do an side by side comparison,I would be very interested in their impressions.
  23. Applying a small amount of lubricant to the seal will help. I use a bit of spark plug silicon sealant.
  24. Glad to hear the repair worked well for you! Now I need some help...What GPS should I buy?
