  1. Re: GeoMascot, it's actually quite obvious it should be a homing pigeon! Antenna optional. Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  2. If they can't be sold maybe they could be donated? Like to a geocaching group....say as a prize at an event? If only they would last, they would also make a really cool travel bug. Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  3. Yeah I caught that also. This really isn't in a heavily industrialized area tho. Just one factory within a 1/4 mile or so of spot picture was taken. I think picture is of what is left of tower...but of course cannot be sure... like it says in my log it would be hard to miss a 200-300' tower in any case. Will try to follow up with the city, hopefully they would know if such a large natual gas storage tank was in the area. Fire department might be my best chance. There does seem to be two quite different standards that need to be met, NGS & GC.com. I think that since I dont have as much time to devote to be as accurate as the NGS needs I'll go with the more relaxed GC.com standards- but still try and be as accurate and descriptive as I can be in the logs and upload pictures as I have been doing. Remember, wherever you go- there you are! [This message was edited by Corp Of Discovery on August 09, 2003 at 07:28 PM.]
  4. Point taken Sixthings...I will modify to a not found but leave message and picture. Upon reading some past posts it is apparent that the PID's are the main thing to look for and none was assigned to the reset mark. What about this mark: ME2956 ? Thanks for any input...getting to like this benchmark thing. Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  5. What about this BM: http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.asp?PID=ME1846 ? The only designation is T137 which is same as on the one I found and it clearly says it is a reset. The structure it is set on was built in 1981 so original is presumably destroyed, also 2 notes since 1981 say it was found (1987 & 1989). Thanks. Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  6. Hmmmm.... seems like something is missing.... I know...I think I can get my hands on a Saturday night special if you would like to complete the cache.........lol Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  7. MMMMMMMMMM.........picante sauce! Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  8. Landing gear? We don't need no stinking landing gear. Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  9. Just in case no one else mentions it- a sense of adventure is necessary and a sense of humor is indispensable Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  10. YEAH!!! What Sluggo, Logscaler and Pater47 said. Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  11. quote:Buy why must you feel you must attack it, and not the context of what was said? Or what has been going on in the logs? Obiously you do really need to go back and reread the original posts, and you still have not gone beyond personal attacks. If someone can find this website, make an account, start a new topic and not leave a valid email address or website in return- they could just have contacted the site admin and registered a complaint. This would have been a much easier and more tactful, to say nothing of the right way, to do it. One last thing- you are assuming the cache placers are in the wrong and did not follow the correct procedure for placing a cache, where is your research into that? Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  12. quote: My argument is well thought-out and sound. Try me big-boy. I know words like "onus" and "slather" and am not scared by the likes of you! "Try you" how? Obviously your argument is neither well thought out or sound as the only thing you replied to in my original post was the USE of the word slather. I never said I did not know what it meant but was deriding the use of the word in this context- this is not a barbeque or a shaving forum. I also know many words and their meanings....some of which I am restraining myself from using right now. In what way do you think I was trying to scare you? Since you seem to be an enlightened individual please grace us with a solution to our most grievious error of our ways.???? Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  13. quote: Problems with "slather" and "onus"...just what is the literacy level around here? George Knowing what a word means and using it are 2 different things. If you have such a problem with caching just leave it and find something else to do...say as a movie critic or something like that. If you have to stoop so quickly to personal attacks it makes one wonder how well thought out any of your argument is. I see now why you thought that the original post was not condescending- you seem to be more than a little yourself. Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  14. 1st- Slather? who actually says that? 2nd- If she could find this website and post she could most certainly have contacted the admin and done it in a more tactful way.... 3rd- The "web presence"(???), fodr.org she mentions is not up. 4th- The "Cause" uh....which one is that? There are soooo many to choose from.... Here are 2 of the caches in question by the way- 1 regular and 1 virtual. The placers do mention to stay on trails etc. and between the both of them have less than 40 finders... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=d727c4ed-b07b-4930-a035-95b5e3affd76 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=447f4b0b-3184-43c0-8ae7-5ea57a8bba9b The regular cache is now missing- I guess thats how they came to post here. One of the caches even mentions that they BUS seniors there at times......if they are so concerned why do that? Remember, wherever you go- there you are! 15. Here are links to some caches that are near what is reputed to be the most haunted site in the Chicago area. Active: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=d68f3634-480a-4855-bbdc-59192e9e0b99 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=344610f7-9608-4c0e-9e3b-dc3db2c69643 Deactive: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=766704ce-0902-4056-9bdd-707046d2f61b Heres a link to a website about the area. http://www.bachelorsgrove.com/ Enjoy! Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  16. Heres a joke...but someone else will have to provide the punch line. Why did the geocacher cross the river? Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  17. I use a Palm PDA, just copy, paste then edit the cache info and load it up. Less paper to carry around, altho I do print out a copy for those further from home just in case. My GPS unit is a Magellan Meridian Gold with a 64mb SD card in it...I have all of Illinois and most of the surrounding states on it...down to street level, I use Mapsend Streets only...nothing fancy, it's generally accurate and better than trying to carry a road atlas with you. I used this set up on a recent vacation (had to use a 128md card to cover all the areas we went to tho), went through 14 states, DC and even into Canada slightly (Niagra Falls) and had no problem. In between vacation stuff we managed to do 37 caches in 28 days or so, all those were virtual tho since we didn't have alot of time to search for normal ones. I am also not a hardcore tech head and no college degree. Don't consider myself one of the smart ones and am just really starting out also...I treat every cache as a learning experience and hopefully I'll get the hang of it someday. I actually consider my 2 most important pieces of equipment my 2 sons who cache with me.... Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  18. Heres mine...best of luck to all...lots of nice avatars.... Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  19. Got our hat prize today! Heres a picture: Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  20. Same to you buddy.... Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  21. It's not only asking me to log in twice but it kicks me out of not only geocaching.com but also AOL or MSIE...ususlly at the main page but has done it while looking up caches too. Heres the AOL error message if it helps: WAOL caused an invalid page fault in module JGDW400.DLL at 0167:028c440f. Registers: EAX=00000018 CS=0167 EIP=028c440f EFLGS=00010246 EBX=00000000 SS=016f ESP=0576f484 EBP=00000000 ECX=00000016 DS=016f ESI=00000179 FS=47af EDX=0000000f ES=016f EDI=0074d2fc GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 8b 83 c8 0b 00 00 85 c0 75 1c 6a 00 8d 93 bc 0b Stack dump: 00000000 00000001 00000000 0074d2fc 028c3f17 0074d2fc 016dc9ac 000001a6 00000018 00000000 00000000 0074d2fc 000001a6 028c3e41 0074d2fc 01b03c80 Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  22. Just my 2 cents...but checked cache page and others seemed to enjoy it...altho 1 other person mentioned the road construction but that is not the placers fault. The post did not seem to be too far out of line but perhaps he could have given you the chance to edit it before he deleted (and hopefully you may have done so after reflecting on it). The biggest problem I see is that I thought food items were generally a no no and that cache is stocked like a minimart... Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  23. For those interested but unable to get on the Magellan site...heres a picture of me and my younger son with the cache box: It's the Sunken Santiago box from outside Chicago. Thanks to Nash79 for taking the picture. Paul. Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
  24. Hope this test works... Remember, wherever you go- there you are!
