  1. From Logansport here ..... we will probably be in the Rochester area for a day soon. Will e-mail when we are. And welcome to geocaching. It's fun!
  2. It's not a drug ... It's vitamins and herbs. I just took a good look at my container .... Looks like it would work good. Chris
  3. I guess I don't see the problem. Most all state parks charge an entrance fee ... in any state. State parks are not for profit (by definition.) Some parks allow caches some don't. I guess I'll be glad to have two additional caches to find when I go to Utah. Chris
  4. If we all agreed on everything the world would be a pretty lame place. Sometimes people just get a bit obnoxiously too passionate about things that they find extremely important. I love it that Geocaching is fairly self sustaining and I think expression of opinion helps keep it that way. Chris
  5. I don't think I have a find in weather over 20 degrees. I was hoping to try to go out today, but the police have shut down all the roads and I can't get more than a couple of miles away from my house. I really don't think it's that bad out. I suppose it will just get worse though. Chris
  6. What do you mean we invaded this land? This land is your land, this land is my land. Not sure if I'm ready to relinquish control to a fuzzy critter quite yet. We don't have to relinquish control, time will take care of that for us. This land is your land, this land is my land .... for the last few thousand years anyway. All I'm really saying is we should impact the place as little as possible if we want this earth to continue to take care of us. Agree to disagree Chris
  7. I'm sorry, I'm not buying it. Really. You really think we should be peeing in to bottles, and carrying out feces in plastic baggies? Should the deer, bears, coyotes, etc. start doing the same thing? Obviously don't take a dump mid-trail. Go off somewhere reasonably private if you have to. Other than that, I don't have a problem. Yup, that is exactly what i'm saying. Not that we necessarily will do it, but that we should. We are not naturally placed here like deer and bear ... we have invaded this land, it it will only take care of us as long as we take care of it. We are stupid to think otherwise and eventually it will be our ruin. Be that as it may, I say we should do our best to take nothing/leave nothing just like I already mentioned ... if we don't it just means we are lazy. Chris
  8. Just a thought .... I logged a DNF two days in a row ... cache owner checked on it right away (good owner!) and it wasn't there. Looks like DNF's are a good thing ... as long as the seeker isn't too proud to admit failure. chris
  9. Yea!!! The world needs more responsible smokers! Thank you for being one! Chris
  10. ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ For Emphasis This sounds like a great idea. I'm new to this and would hate to see the hobby ligislated to death before I am able to fully get into it. I think this could certainly be an effective tool with the media and government agancies. As this "sport" grows ... and it will continue to do so ... the incedents of bad and unapproprite hides will grow proportionally. When we set out a plan to deal with things before they happen, we are able deal with them gracefully, swiftly and effectively when they actually occur. Props .... I'll help if I can. ^^v^^ Chris
  11. I have been trying to figure out how to deal with DNF's. For my purpose, I think if I got out and reasonably attempted to find it and didn't sign the log ... it's a DNF. If I just drove by, or quickly decided I didn't want to look (for whatever reason: barking dogs, muggles, muggles with barking dogs, muggles with guns, mountain lions .... whatever) I don't think I would log it ... unless something really significant happend that others might enjoy reading about. Chris
  12. didn't anyone else notice that this person's first cache find is now sitting on her desk???? I did. I also noticed the contents mentioned .... Hmmmm ..... Chris Edit - So, I went and read the Log and laughed. Now I understand.
  13. I just figure that if there is snow on the ground it will be harder. If it was too easy, everyone would be doing it. Chris
  14. Leave nothing (except well placed footprints), take nothing (except pictures and trash.) Pretty safe to assume then that approach doesn't cause more impact than necessary. We can make exceptions to the rule all day long if we like ... just means were lazy. It's neither easy nor fun to carry out our waste ... but we should. All of it. Chris
  15. You know....I don't know much and I'm just a silly Indiana boy, but with geocaching getting slapped in the face by the media and bomb squads a lot recently and our government causing everyone in the country who owns a TV or reads the newspaper to be paranoid .... um, can't we just find a place to hide a cache that doesn't have to push the rules or guidlines to the limit? Chris
  16. We are planning to visit, though it will likely be brief as I have to go to Chicago that afternoon. I am part of an already established group of musicians and cavers who just discovered Geocaching but I don't know how many of us will make it to France Park ... hopefully several. We actually cleanup trash around the park every spring as a group project, mostly in the dry quarry, and enjoy the time we spend there. Thanks for the invite, I expect we will be there. Chris
  17. I'm certain I will. This works nicely with all my other outdoor hobbies and will make them all the more interesting. Chris
  18. Hi. I'm new, but enjoying this tremendously! I can't believe how much of this was right under my nose and I never noticed. No better way to play in the snow than this. I look forward to meeting some of you! Chris
  19. I don't care too much about what is in there, but my kids do. If i like something I'll trade for it. I picked up some inexpensive LED headlamps and have left one of those thusfar ... more to come. I'd say ... just don't leave trash. Anything else and someone will like it. Chris
  20. I love tromping around the woods in the middle of the night. Been a little cold here lately for that, but it gets above 0 during the day. Chris
  21. I found a note in a lamp post cache from a local electrician that said he was confused by the strange access cover. He lol'd and wrote to enjoy our game! Chris
  22. New to this ... but we camp a lot. We plan to find caches while we are camping, anyway. It appears that they are placed so close to some of our favorite camping areas we have probably looked at them before. Chris
  23. http://www.myspace.com/152795244 or http://www.myspace.com/mudhippies I think we are fixin' to write a geocaching song. You can add me or us, we don't bite ... hard. Chris
  24. I am a caver. Our information and locations etc. are sensitive and great harm can come to our sport and our caves when such things are published ... I'd say this is similar. I am really new to geocaching and see it as a wonderful way to spend time outdoors ... with my kids, by myself or in a group. I am unfortunately getting the impression that I may be getting in on the beginning of the end. The more people become involved in a sport such as this the more visible and numerous the "bad ones" become. If you must publish then you must also educate. This is fun and lots of people will be fascinated and want to try so newsmedia is inevitable. People must be dealt with well if this is to survive. my $.02 Chris
