  1. so I could load a region on my SD memory and when I want the detailed topo info just load that one, there is no overlay info such as both working together....correct?
  2. Wow, mine at least asked for disk 2, the discs would not work on my laptop I had to use a external USB CD drive. The new discs worked on the laptop drive and went smooth. You can call customer support but be patient
  3. I had a problem with my MapSend Topo 3D software (see thread below) it took a few calls but after I got the right guy he shipped me out new software that I installed last night and it works well! If you get hold of someone that does not seem helpful, ask to speak to a supervisor....one of the hardest things to do though...is remain calm...trust me I have yet to have this down when it comes to dealing with customer service. Ask for a supervisor....sometimes it helps
  4. I now have a working install of MapSend TOPO 3D and MapSend Direct 3.0 (DVD) So my question is why do I have both What is the advantage of one over the other?? Peace Rick
  5. Just to update this thread, I got the new CD's from Magellan today and they work like a champ!
  6. Thanks I tried that, it still fails at the same point each time, it gets to 93% done and fails as usual...this really is th pits, now I have to call customer support and do the same things I just did until they decide to send me new media, I have tried this in multiple times on multiple computers
  7. well tried on my wifes computer .....same thing, did some searching on the net and seems embra is right, there are CD issues and they (Magellan) need to send me new CD's.....oh this ought to be fun going to customer support again
  8. I would try another pc I suspect your cd player could be on its way out. Some cd players can be pickier than others. If you can access another pc see if you get the same problem.. Ray Thanks I used a different CD player then my internal CD drive on my laptop, I used a USB drive as the internal would not read the CD itself, I am leaning towards bad media embra had said, but I will try and install on my wifes computer...
  9. Hmmm. I bought it on eBay from a "dealer" I have contacted them so we will see what happens
  10. ok, this time I put the CD #3 in and same issues....
  11. Had the same problem with mine, with the 500 you don't upload to the GPS when you select save to...save to the PC, then navigate to the folder on the 500 where you want to save things. If you try to save to the GPS it will just sit and sit and sit and sit and do nothing, the 500 is seen as a drive, so you save to a PC hard drive, in this case the 500
  12. I installed again and here is the error The second CD gets to 93% and this error pops up Failed to copy additional map files I hit OK Then it pops up a message saying The wrong volume in in the drive. Please insert voulme MS3DUS_100_1 into drive E it gives the option to cancel try again or continue The volume mentioned is CD 1 So I put CD 1 in and hit try again and then the prompt to install (step 1 ) starts again....
  13. I just got a brand new sealed MapSend Topo 3D (CD) and during install it works fine, it asks fro the second CD I insert the second CD and it chugs along, then a message pops up sating failed to load a certain library would you like to continue...well of course I would, then it states...missing volume...then fails. Any ideas??
  14. Yes I have had the same issue, apparently(according to Magellan customer service) you can't exceed 64 thousand K per region.I know.. pain in the ***,But could be allot worse no? I'm sure if ya keep the regions under that size you will be a happy camper...ummm..gps-er. Cheers! Ok, thats odd, since I am using a ex500 I wonder if I can just copy the file over to the unit through windows explorer and load it then?? I mean how do you plot a course if say for example you are driving across the country?? and happy camper I will be, i am going camping tonight here in IL a low of -6 degrees...we are using tents and I will not have my explorist with me so as not to have problems form the cold
  15. I am trying to load a region that is 4 states, but MapSend Direct says I can't because it is over a size of 122880K....anyone else ever have this problem??
  16. Ok, I see what you are asking now...sorry can't help there.. I tried it with mine and it does the samething you observe, but since I am new to this device I don;t know why i would go into NMEA data mode
  17. Can;t help you with the NMEA, but asking for drivers is very odd, I just got a ex500 and it did not ask me for anything like that. What service pack is you XP running??
  18. Wow! Thats tough love After my initial problems with my EX 500 (user had no brains...me) I am loving this thing, I can;t wait to get my 2GB SD card so I can but a larger region in then what I have currently.
  19. Most I have read on this site think fondly of Amazon.com
  20. Honesty is always the best, though I have not had an encounter while with the GPS, when I was into ham radio we would have fox hunts and walking around public places with a Yagi (directional antenna) and a radio would always garner some questions....
  21. Yep...it was the 24 hour wait time...feels like buying a gun
