  1. The joys of living in a police state =( Oh, I mean... yah, bad cachers! In that case, we may want to archive Vegas 9/11 Memorial Cache as well, because that shares similarities with I'd Walk A Mile For A Geocache. Both are near a police academy, both near "potential soft targets," and, strangely enough, both near -215! (OK, in LAS I think its SR 215, but close enough.) And, ours has a skate park nearby as well. Won't somebody think about the children??? The cache location wasn't the problem. If the cachers had some tact, or, had been smart enough to return at a less busy time, they wouldn't have raised the ire of the nosy jogger. I do think that the jogger may have gone a bit overboard, but John Ashcroft and the media have conditioned her to report "anything out of the ordinary," because THEY could attack ANYWHERE, AT ANYTIME. So its not entirely her fault. As much as I'd like to fault UHP for confiscating the cache, at that point, they had no choice. I'm sure that the responding officer quickly realized that the cache posed no threat to public safety, however, its only a time until the next jogger calls another cacher in the same location..... ::sigh::
  2. My first cache was a DNF. After I searched high and low for about 30 minutes, I gave up, knowing that it was there, but not sure where. I went on to successfully hit one or two more that evening. After monitoring the cache for a while, and being bugged about the DNF, one night the answer hit he while I was smoking. (The container was a decon kit... and they have the little hook on the end. When I was in the service, I used to keep my cigarettes in an empty decon kit which I clipped to my suspenders.) If I hadn't logged that DNF, and it didn't mock me everytime I logged on, I may not have gone back for it.
  3. You could purchase a rucksack with a built-in case attached to the shoulder strap, such as the OGIO IONIK (which I can't find on their website, but they have other excellent packs as well): http://www.ogio.com/packs.htm
  4. I'm going to avoid the MRE just because I don't need the 2000 calories and to be "bound up" for a week...
  5. Did the reporter try his hand at using the GPSr?
  6. AOL CD tins arrived today! I expect to see a rash of Micro's in the coming weeks! =)
  7. No, its not condensation. I filled it with room temp tap water, and it was 60's outside. (temperature-wise =) I knew that I forgot to mention that!
  8. All - Recently I purchased an Eddie Bauer hydration system (on clearance at my local Target-tto). However, it seems to have a tendancy to leak - somewhere. I can't detect any leaks, perhaps it has poor seams. Any suggestions as to best keep me dry? I'm planning on dropping it in a big "zip-loc" bag, and going from there. Thanks -
  9. Here's a tip from a former resident... Stay away from the Super WalMart in Kissimmee - this is closest to WALT DISNEY WORLD. The lines there can be up to 45 minutes long - locals and tourists shop there. Your best bet is the Target located on Sandlake Road next to the Florida Mall, or the SuperTarget location on Orange Blossom Trail, right off State Road 417 in the Hunter's Creek Subdivision (near the location where they're building the new Grande Lakes Resort). Don't worry, your cab or shuttle driver will know how to get there. Any more questions about the Orlando area, just let me know!
  10. I found the coordinates for three resturants at an intersection down the road from my house. I am going to use it to "calibrate" my GPSr when I get a chance.
  11. I've found that the case for my Nokia 3360 mobile phone fits my eTrex quite nicely. Clips onto my pants pocket!
  12. Purchase an Eyemodule, which is an add-on for the Handspring Visor (and Deluxe) PDA. Walmart had them recently for $50. Not the best resolution, but its tiny, and gets the job done!
