  1. I'm sorry Neo_Geo but you are wrong. Provided an individual is a premium member and are 'logged-in' when viewing an individual cache page they can download a .gpx file of its detail. See ...Cache Page HTH
  2. What's CoTM Some TB charity or something.
  3. In view of Slimey's post it might be prudent to get your freebie booking in poste-haste
  4. Q1. A .gpx file can be read via a suitable text editor (it may be too big for Windows 'Notepad' and you may have more luck with windows 'WordPad'. Q2. The .gpx file should contain all the cache info and the last 5 logs. GSAK will load either .gpx or .loc files natively. I suspect that the method you are using to download your data results in a .loc file. To download a .gpx file you must be a paid up member, then access the pocket queries pages to generate your search and ensure you tick the 'gpx' file box. Edited to add: If a paid up member you can generate a .gpx file download direct from a single cache page.
  5. I have not received an invoice as yet. I've just sent an email to you as requested. For info the email is from my personal account.
  6. Where in the rules of the game does it stipulate a speed limit when seeking out caches? Whilst driving down the motorway I find it handy to see a cache (not a parking) icon appearing - it gives me the opportunity to take the next turn off, take a look at 'CacheMate' to see whether its within reasonable distance and feasable to hunt for - this also helps to comply with the suggested 2 hour break by TPTB too . It seems that you have an alternative idea on what constitutes an 'additional' waypoint and, as Clyde of GSAK fame, has come up with a macro to fix this mis-use (IMHO) of waypoints then AFAIC the topic no longer requires debate - and I'm closing the thread. Many thanks for your alternative view and input .
  7. If you are going to add 'additional' waypoints then make them additional to the main cache, not the same. When I'm driving through an area I would prefer to see on my GPSr map a 'cache' icon not an information/parking/trailhead or whatever icon - at least that way I know there's a cache origin point there and won't confuse it with information/parking/trailheads for a cache that is in the nearby area. I would much prefer to know that there is a cache nearby rather than have it being muddled with waypoints for an alternative nearby cache. At 70mph I really don't have the time!
  8. 0.1 mile provided it wasn't a multi, puzzle or mickey mouse cache Edited to correct spellin.
  9. Forgot to mention it earlier - do the 3 nights include Ferry travel from the mainland? Depending when you book/travel it can be quite costly to get over to the IOW. It's allegedly one of the most expensive water crossings around It also might be worth your while signing up for WightLinks newsletter - they often email you with special offers on fares. You can register at WightLink Special Offers. Edited to add: ... and no I don't work for the IOW tourist board!
  10. Yes the IOW is a lovely place and I have spent 3 days caching there with some mates and we had a great time. With 3 nights available you have a good chance of bagging all the available IOW caches should you want to. They are spread around the island so you'll see plenty of it. I can recommend the 'Vectis' series and 'Diamond Isle' (currently temp. disabled but may be back on line when you're there). The 'Lord Palmerston' is also good, as is the 'Ledge' (though this one is a fairly lengthy walk). Although an island there are some fairly steep gradients and some of the roads are quite narrow.
  11. I disagree. To set the record straight I think the additional waypoints are a great feature. They are supposed to be additional waypoints which in my book means that they should not be the same as the main cache waypoint. IHMO people who duplicate waypoints are the ones misusing the system. You appear to not understand the significance of 3 icons appearing one on top of the other - you can only see the one on top not the two underneath, which could be either the Cache, parking or information icons.
  12. Not true I'm afraid - any waypoint can be allocated a different icon be it parking or whatever on GPSr and Mapping programs such as Mapsource. With one cache that has 2 additional waypoints with the same co-ords as the main cache I end up with the following ... Main cache co-ords = Multi Parking co-ords = Parking Stage of Multi = Information These are one on top of the other - now which one do I see on the GPSr/Map
  13. As I understand it the additional waypoints are meant to be 'additional' to the 'main' co-ords. There is at least one cache that has 2 additional waypoints with the same co-ords as the main - what is the point of that? When viewed on a map/GPSr there is a good chance that whichever icon is on top will lead to confusion especially in a cache dense area. I started looking for further occurences where 'additional' waypoints = main and gave up when I got to 50. (Note to self - get a life )
  14. If you are gonna use the 'additional' waypoints facility when submitting a cache PLEASE ensure that the co-ords for the 'additionals' are not the same as the 'original' cache . It causes problems with one icon (e.g.Parking) superimposed on another when using mapping software on the PC or GPSr .
  15. Hi Kai Team It seems only you and I have experienced this problem
  16. The additional waypoints are a great feature. However, some cacher placers are listing additional waypoints with exactly the same co-ords as the main cache (e.g. GCT6D1). This causes problems when viewing using mapping software both on the PC and the GPSr, one icon is superimposed upon another. Could Geocaching.com provide a validation check when the waypoints are initially entered on the cache submission page to ensure that the co-ords of additional waypoints are not the same as the 'parent' cache?
  17. Play the game how you want, don't worry how others play it. As long as you have a clear conscience why worry yourself about anyone else?
  18. At the moment you can change your user name to anything that hasn't already been registered on gc.com. Your user name is tied to your user ID 'number' - (mouse over a posting - lh side of screen to see it for those who aren't aware). In the last couple of days I tried to revert to my former Caching name but was unable to because it was 'already registered'. Huh!?1? Searching for any cache 'finds' or 'hidden' by that name shows "Sorry, no results were found for this search." I suspect the database just has my former name recorded as being 'in use' and not recorded against my user ID number.
  19. I rarely swap these days and just carry the odd item in case something takes my fancy. Makes for a lighter load in my rucksack too
  20. My first thoughts were that the fake co-ords came down in a PQ delivered to you sometime between cache placed date (11 Jun 2005) and the archived date (approx 13 Jun 2005). Having re-read the post I twigged that you found the cache on 14 Jun 2005 so my next best guess is that the co-ords came down in a 'My finds' PQ.
  21. Select 'Backup' from the 'File' menu, press 'Select All Databases' & tick 'Save GSAK Settings'. Then save to your desired location using the pull down menu. To restore when your PC is sorted select 'Restore' from the 'File' menu.
  22. Thanks for the reply - that explains things nicely - ta
  23. On a similar subject ... What has happened to ... GCV790 - last appeared in a PQ 14th April 2006 ? GCTRP5 - last appeared in a PQ 20th March 2006 ? When accessed both now show "Sorry, you cannot view this cache listing until it has been published." Odd as they've already been distributed in a PQ & GCTRP5, in particular, has a "found log" against it in the PQ
  24. Fact ... That's what I & Pharisee have been saying all along Fact My accounts do not display this behavior, unless I have the leave on server flag assigned, I'm positive that having it assigned is not an issue so you have no need to dissolution the setting. If I've understood you all correctly Moote says that "Delete" removes his pqs completely from GoogleMail, and Pharisee and Hi-Tek say it moves their pqs to "Trash". (I've only just skimmed through this rather long thread, so sorry if I've got that wrong). For me, "Delete" does nothing! The files stay in my inbox after using Getmail...! I've just checked that - I ran Getmail yesterday evening with "Delete" checked as always, and the pqs it fetched and loaded are still in my inbox. Could some other factor be involved here, to cause different behaviour with different setups? Fact ... Hi Bill Good to see some more factual info relevant to this fascinating subject. For my part my Gmail account is set as follows ... Under Gmail "settings" ... ... there is a tab called "Forwarding and POP" ... here I have "When messages are accessed with POP" I have " delete Google Mail's copy" selected. Hope you had a great weekend - I surely did.
  25. Sometimes I'll just log a bug number only to show I've actually handled it and other times I'll take it with me and move it along. That's the way I choose to play the game.
