  1. Since it was my cache and my choice that started this thread, I suppose I should comment briefly. I don't worry about beta testing very much. I am a FFW at times so I get to see it from both sides. It is still a first find if the only cacher there before me was the beta tester(s). I can live with that. I have been a beta tester and signed in numerous places including above the title, on the bottom of the first page and elsewhere. Can't see an appreciable difference there. I'm sorry if anyone feels that beta testing (or having friends along who DON"T claim a FF) ruins the FF. It is rather irresponsible to waste fuel to drive back many miles just to keep the experience "pure". Not doing it. FYI: I have been known to rant myself and I try not to get to worked up about same. A good debate is fun and I try to have them whenever a fine opponent is available. I have to go to bed now so enjoy the fun and don't be surprised when I don't respond.
  2. Sarcasm is a tool with which only the intelligent are equipped. ...and like all tools, it can be used properly or _in_properly.. Actually, it can't be used INproperly... there's no such word. The correct negation of properly is UNproperly. In spite of your status as an educator (not English, I presume), you are incorrect. The Oxford English Dictionary lists improperly as the correct negation of properly and has no listing for unproperly, in spite of an exhaustive list of words negated by the prefix un. Can you say sarcasm? Clearly, Squealy, if your skin were any thinner, you'd look like you were covered in saran wrap. FYI: These are attacks on your postings, not your value as persons. quote:Well, I gotta get back to work. Willem Lange
  3. quote:Originally posted by Cannonlaw: He decided, however, not to log the find, nor did he sign the logbook because I had not yet submitted the cache and so no one else in the world knew about it. In my opinion, if you are going to crow about a FTF, you should not have any coordinates available to you until the general public also has them. Since it is not obvious from Squealy's log that s/he had any real advanced notice of the coordinates of the cache then I am going to think of it as a "good" FTF and give them both the benefit of the doubt. The map on the cache page will give you the general area of a cache so scouting the area is not a big help in my book unless there is only one place that a cache could ever be and since I have seen some pretty creative hides I doubt any wooded area will meet that criteria. Some good points and some further thoughts on them: Doesn't scouting the area imply looking for those creative hiding spots? The cache in question (GCGMTW) did not appear on the public post until the late on the night of the day the FF was logged. I was watching since I too am an FFW. I could not have raced for the FF anyway since I had to work early on the morning after the actual post. As to Squealy's newbie claim, didn't I see 150 finds listed on your post? It's only a game - so it works much better if we play fairly. [This message was edited by crashco on August 14, 2003 at 08:24 PM.]
  4. Flask is right - 100/100 is a good start. 200/200 by fall?
  5. I am just short of this club (96/122) but my (cache) partner, Flask is easily in. Beatnik, you are not BM obsessed yet. Flask and I look at rock vistas and think they are all great places for BM's. We also stop for witness posts while driving nearly anywhere. On hunts, it is the navigator's job to watch for witnesses.
