  1. I was wondering if there is anyone planning another WV geocacher's get together this fall some time?

I'd like to eventually make it to one of these.

I bought a GPSr so the ladies would stop telling me to get lost. It didn't work icon_frown.gif.

  2. Looks good. There are only two things I really noticed that could be improved.

    1. It would be nice to seperate out or even not show the caches that I've hidden.

    2. I can no longer view the entire state. I tried to select the veiw stat map in a cache page and it only gave me a max of about 30 miles.

  3. The way I learned HTML was I went to a web page. When I seen something I liked, went to the Browser menu and selected view, then source. This gives you a screen with the code for that page. You can scroll down and find the part you liked and see how the code is written for it. It's really simple once you get the hang of it.

this Sunset is at of the cache area. The cache is a virtual where you must go to this point and take a picture of the New River Gorge Bridge with your GPSr in the photo.

The New River Gorge Bridge is the longest Steel Arch bridge in the world.

I also have a photo of the bridge without the gps in it.

The point of making sure they see you place your gun in the holster is that it's a proven fact that if someone has the intent of doing harm to you they may change their mind if they know you are armed.

Henceforth, there would be no need to even fire your weapon, and then go to court to prove the jerk was going to hurt you. icon_wink.gif

  6. I think the charity should be an organization that in some way contributes to geocaching. To be a kind of thank you. Some charity that maintains hiking trails, or teaches children/people about the outdoors, orienteering, etc., or preserves lands for recreational uses.

I also don't mind the money supporting geocaching.com. It takes money to maintain the web site. However Jeremy did say charity so if that what they want, give it to an organization that at least recognizes geocahing or contributes to it in some form.

Ok this is a brief hijack, then everyone can return to their regularly scheduled forums. This isn't an attempt to take the thread off topic, or derail the thread...This is just something that has bothered me for a while, and I have to ask. I've see "(sic)" used from time to time (here and other forums, etc) and I've never been able to figure out what it means. Any help here? icon_cool.gif

(sic) is usually used when a person quotes something from written text and they know the workd is misspelled. Some people also use it when they are not sure of the spelling of a word.

Back on topic. I usually ask people who are in an area of a cache if they are geocaching. If they have no idea what it is, I tell them about geocaching and offer to let them use my gps to find the near by cache. Several people have been very interested in it.

  8. Sorry about the previous post where I quoted my self. I hit the wrong button.

For the photos, I had to reduce the size for the post, but I have unedited sizes of the pics saved on my computer, so if chosen I can send those.

Shouldn't it be an international charity though, since geocaching is in 184 countries now? There are boy and girl scout orginazations all over the world.

Not sure how to post the photo, so if this dosn't work, can someone please tell me? The photos are posted on the cache page so they are on the web.

  11. I'd be happy to help.

Email me through Geocaching.com by clicking on my name above my avitar to the left. Then select the view my profile. In my profile you have an option to email me.

  12. Here is how we handel that situation in WV. After making sure we are being followed, park and make sure that they see you place you gun in the holster on your side. Then go after the cache. If they are still stupid enough to follow you in, make sure they are carried out.

    Simple enough. icon_wink.gif

So why did he put it in a pot and nail it high in a tree?

Most people cut paper strips and staple them together. It's a kludge but it works.

I thought that a log book was not required in micros. When did this change? Or did it? Someone who knows for sure let me know cause I'm thinking of putting a micro out soon.

  15. I've worked with highway plans and had to deal with RR right of way. They are typically 66' Right of ways. That's 33 feet each side of the centerline of the RR tracks. Some times they may go out a little more for a bridge or some other reason, but for the most part it's just a 66' total r/w. If there is more than one track the R/W may be wider too. I'm not sure where this 100 and 150' right of way issue came from.
