I thought I would let you all know that Gill and I are getting married on Friday 30th May in Worthing, Sussex. We would welcome anyone from the forum to come in the evening and help us celebrate our marriage There will be plenty of food and a disco from 1930 onwards. Unfortunately it can not be claimed as a cache. The co-ordinates to the venue are N50 49.293 W000 19.207W John and Gill

How many cachers take dogs caching??
John & Gill replied to djh's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
We take our two dogs with us - Caz and Andme. They love the walk, the hunting for the cache and the nosing around inside the tupperware box <g> Perhaps with all these posts, it would be nice if those placing caches indicated whether it is dog friendly or not - what do you think? -
you could always cut the ball off the end <g>

Whilst busy at work tomorrow afternoon I shall think of you all sitting in the sun supping refreshment. Have a great time John

18th May Chichester Get Together
John & Gill replied to Wood Smoke's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I am on nights but at this moment in time can not see any reason why we should not come along and buy a pint or two (with a suitable number of straws for friends) Got in my diary John -
I wish to vote for the TV coverage - after all it was "Inside Out" that alerted me to Geocaching. I thought about it long and hard before parting with my money for a GPS, decided it was for me and have never looked back. Without the TV program I, along with countless others, would have not known about it. Having read the postings, it would appear that several wish this to be a "closed shop" with only invited friends and guest becoming involved. That will be the death of the "sport", over time it will become stale and uninteresting - it needs new blood, new life and above all new caches. John & Gill

A bit late - but hi from us as well

I was going to add onto the bottom of the last thread, but thought this might be easier. Thank you for all the postings on the other thread - it did answer some of the queries I had. I have a book of walks in Sussex and I want to create some routes for my Magellan. Can anyone tell me if there is an on-line map that you can use to create waypoints and then routes. I do have Mapsend and Easy GPS, but the UK map does not go down to footpaths and bridleways, only streets. I have tried scanning a pathfinder map and importing that into a program, but it didn't seem to calibrate it in the right place. How have others done it? Thanks John (& Gill)

UK Geocachers... How many R we (part III)
John & Gill replied to a topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
oh - don't forget us John & Gill - we recently joined and have found 5 caches so far (well at least Gill and dogs have, I seem to always be the other side of the tree, ditch or hill) Thanks -
I have now got a Magellan SporTrak ad would really like to get a decent road map for it - the problem is I do not like to get ripped off and would prefer to see before I buy. Does anyone know any sites that offer a demo version of the maps, or does anyone know how i can get to see without having to buy in the first instance. John

Well I took the plunge and brought a Magellan SporTrak Pro - took it out today and found my second Cache (1st one using GPS) - think the bug has bitten - going out again tomorrow to do another - John
-
Okay, the bug has bitten - now looking for a cheap GPS unit. I have looked at the E-Trex but would like a little more. I have seen a Garmin Legend and an Garmin E-Map which have taken my fancy. I like the idea of using the GPS in the car as well - (navigator not very good Not sure about the map - how old is it? - is the only way of updating it by CD costing ?90+ ? - does it go to street level? Both the above units were around ?210 and that is about the most I can afford. I can be swayed by opinion and would love to hear from others - John

Hi - Just heard about GeoCache on the Television last night - I want to give it a go - looks a lot of fun. Has anyone in UK got a cheap GPS for sale which would be ideal for first timer. John
