  1. I just recently visited a cache that was in the middle of a Home Depot parking lot. Right in a 4x4ft section of foilage. With me, I guess there comes the hope that a member's only cache will be a quality journey, not a trip to the home improvement store. I know that's not absolute however, that's the hope....

  3. <comment removed, holding tongue instead>
  4. Let's remember that they'd shut it down in the event of a 'national emergency'. That's a big event and one that would most likely have you either glued to your TV or hiding in your cellar. Hmm... finding trinkets in the woods OR dodging suicide bombers. Nate
  5. Yes, I carry while geocaching. I've got a Keltec P11 (which I love btw...). But I'm also a LEO and having that badge to flash goes a long way for such a situation. In response to the multiple Canadians and individuals overseas...guns are a long held, and closely guarded right here. I'm sure I could make all kinds of generalizations about American culture based on that, but that would be off topic. Many of us grow up around guns, shoot often or often enough, and for us (generally) are really no big deal. Besides, as the saying goes "if you outlaw firearms, only outlaws will have them" or at least in America might be true. Anyway yes, I carry while caching because it is my Constitutional right, and because I see first hand every day the kind of people there are out there. I am not a victim and won't allow myself to become one! (Please excuse my slightly off-topic rant. I'm done for the moment....) Nate
  6. Hey all: Just giving you a heads up on a new type of themed cach I'm planning for the Fayetteville, NC area. They're called TacCaches (short for Tactical Caches). With any luck, they'll be a set of military themed caches making use of a with a mission brief type storyline and a couple innovative new uses for caches. I can't tell ya too much because I don't want to spoil it, but it should be interesting. I know there's a bunch of military and ex-military cachers in the area as well as just good 'ole military enthusiasts. I'll be hitting up Fayetteville and surrounding areas and scouting for locations. I welcome any comments on the idea. Happy caching all... Nate (agentblue)
  7. Awesome idea! Also sounds like a good trinket for the cache. ~ Nate
  8. Here's the lowdown on batteries: - Lithiums - best choice! work in cold weather unlike alkalines. however, they're expensive but last a looooong time. - Heavy Duty - non-alkaline, cheap to manufacture, hold very little charge - Alkalines - good standard choice, but stay away from warehouse stores (Walmart, Sams). Alkalines need to be stored at particular temps and these stores make no effort. - Rechargeables - look for highest mAh rating. radioshack has some 15 min rechargeables that are expensive but work great, plus they've got 2000 mAh which amounts to long lasting batteries. Just my FYI. =) Worked at Radioshack for tooooo long during college. Hope this helps. ~ Nate
  9. Hey all, Looking for some good NC area caches that actually require a bit of a hike and a little 'roughing' it to reach. Gettin' kind of sick of these drive-through caches. (I've seen a million too many ballparks and swingsets.) Let me know. I'm in the Fayetteville area. ~ Nate
  10. Eh, I post 'em as I think of 'em. Saw a some cachers complaining about that happening (though I could care less) and I thought I might post a solution. Happy hunting... ~ Nate
  11. Eh, it's a matter of people determining if it's really a problem. Personally, I don't find it to be but I've seen some disgruntleds that believe differently. ~ Nate
  12. Here's a thought that, to my knowledge, hasn't been brought up as a suggestion. There seems to be a little discern about people logging caches without actually finding them. One measure to prevent this could be a pre-programmed code generated (or inputed) when an individual logs a created cache on the website. This code could be put into the cache and recorded when an individual finds it. This code would be required in order to log the cache on the site. Might be optional at first then slowly switched over as it's adopted. Any thoughts? ~ Nate
  13. 2nd Lt. Jacobs here. Security Forces (cop) Officer based at Pope AFB, NC.
  14. I was wondering if there's a set channel unofficially used by geocachers on either the FRS or GMRS radios. If not, it would be an excellent idea to have a commonly understood channel when geocaching and an alternate in case of interference or traffic. What do you think? ~ Nate
  15. Not to post the same as so many other posts, but is that unit still for sale? And what's the current price. Thanks. Nate "Not all who wander are lost..." -Tolkien
  16. Evening all, I recently upgraded to a newer PDA and I would like to get my Handspring Visor into the hands of someone who will use it. I'll even throw in the folding keyboard to go along with it. I'm willing to either trade for a Garmin Etrex Legend, or cash. Make me an offer. =) Hope to hear from y'all soon. 17. I just sold it for a price reflecting the rebate price. It's called bargining. Price high, sell low. Thank you for your interest. "Not all who wander are lost..." -Tolkien

  19. Well, unfortuantely due to financial problems the GPS has to go. I'm a college student, you know how it is. It's less than a month old and comes with all the documentation. I'll even throw in a really nice EMS case for it. Not sure I have the box still around, but I've got everything else for it. I'm asking $200 because it is new. Hey, make me an offer! Get a hold of me through eagledriver2004@hotmail.com or on AOL instant messenger at nmj5586. Thanks. "Not all who wander are lost..." -Tolkien
  20. There's always some "what-if's" that you can imagine up for any event. I think they're a great idea and if you're a cache owner and don't like it in your cache: just remove it. No big deal. You should be checking your cache anyway. BTW, shotglasses are pretty cheap to make, so long as you want them in batches of over a hundered or more. Plus the setup fees kill 'ya ever time. Other than that...go for it! "Not all who wander are lost..." -Tolkien
  21. bigredmed.....once again, I'm behind you all the way. (Though not in the shuttle case of course.) But that's a whole other thread all together. "Not all who wander are lost..." -Tolkien
  22. It's always nice to ponder what ways we can use our skills, however this is another arena. This debris can be highly toxic and may contain some very unpleasurable "find" as we're starting to hear from the media. This is most likely to be covered by military SAR teams with the help of NASA scientists. It would be cool though, wouldn't it? "Not all who wander are lost..." -Tolkien
