  1. A few days ago I set up a virtual called "Directly to Jail" that uses a dedicated web page for visit verification. Once someone visits the cache, they then go to the web page, answer the question, and paste the resulting unique code into the log here at gc.com Anyone know of other virtuals set up like this? I brainstormed it the best I could without having an example to go by...

  7. A few days ago I set up a virtual cache ("Directly to Jail") that has a dedicated web page set up to confirm the visit. Once you visit the cache, you go to the web page, answer the question correctly, then paste the unique code into the log here at gc.com Anyone know of any other caches set up like this? 8. My relatively new Garmin GPS V took a nose dive from the truck floorboard to the pavement today and is apparently none the worse for wear. There are a couple of dings in the case but hardly noticeable. Anyone have any GPS V abuse stories that have similar happy endings? http://www.yadkinriver.net/ (soon)
  9. A little more information might help, but then again, you already have experience with handguns so why not choose something you know you like and can use effectively? Some points you might want to consider: 1. Do you prefer semi-autos or revolvers? 2. You might want something that is corrosion resistant, maybe polymer or stainless 3. How large/strong of a person are you? That might dictate how large & heavy of a handgun you want to tote around. Also if you end up getting a CCW permit, a large handgun may be tougher to conceal. 4. Caliber. Are you used to a lot of recoil? Some have a hard time with recoil without instruction and frequent range time. http://www.yadkinriver.net/ (soon)
  10. Got a funny red or purple or black splotch on your head or neck? It might be skin cancer - believe me, I know. Get it checked and wear a hat. http://www.yadkinriver.net/
  11. Hmm, the price is now back to $399 - plus free shipping plus a $50 coupon for more Amazon stuff. Not too shabby. Yeah, that $75 rebate would have been super nice. http://doozy.us/
  12. Yesterday, they had it priced at $399. Today it is $499. I was really hoping to get it at Amazon to take advantage of the $50 coupon. Oh well...my Meridian Yellow still works fine. http://doozy.us/
  13. According to the Garmin website, none of the eTrex series are designed for external antennas. Lookie. http://doozy.us/
  14. They both cost the same, each has features the other doesn't. The Map 76s has buttons above the display which I don't particularly care for. The GPS V Deluxe has autorouting and comes with maps. Which model should I upgrade to? I don't suppose the GPS VI with Bluetooth is coming down the pike, is it? http://doozy.us/
  15. You might have tracked a bit too long. http://doozy.us/
  16. Has 4.03 been officially released? Maybe that's part of the answer.
  17. Not sure if anyone sent this to Magellan, but I sent them an e-mail suggesting that they make a "switch" for using rechargeable batteries. This would make the battery life indicator function properly with the lower voltage NiMH cells. They acknowleged my e-mail - who knows? Maybe it'll show up in a firmware upgrade. http://doozy.us/
  18. I'm glad Alan pointed to the DP Review site. I use it regularly for unbiased reviews of digicams. My camera is a Canon Powershot S330 Digital Elph. IMO it's hard to beat the Elph series for compact, sturdy cameras that take excellent photos. http://doozy.us/
  19. Pretty impressive, even for military standards! quote:I found a local bench mark that was GPS verified with a commercial GPS to an accuracy less than one centimeter.
  20. Would the availability of a geocaching.com e-mail address appeal to anyone? I was thinking this could be a feature for those that support the web site. Not a POP3 account, just a forwarding account.
  21. When does he have time to manage projects?!
  22. I have read that others have used this model for geocaching. Maybe you should actually search for a cache to see if it gets you there. Or get a friend with a more recent unit to mark a spot and see how close your 2000 gets you. In my little bit of experience, the GPS only gets you to the vicinity. You then have to use your hands and feet and brain to actually find the cache.
  23. Magellan Meridian GPS. It is cheap (one hundred bucks), accurate, expandable with memory card, and yellow. Plus it's my first GPS. Whoop!
  24. According to the Kodak site, NiMh rechargeables have excellent cold weather performance (very low internal resistance) and if you can afford them, Lithium batteries are good to forty below... quote:Does any one know which battery type is best when it's cold outside.
  25. Thanks, Elias! quote:Originally posted by Elias:We're in the process of moving from OpenTopic to UBB.x.
