  1. When I first started geocaching I received a few coins as door prizes at events or as gifts from a couple of the local generous geocachers. I was always excited to rush home and "activate" the coin before adding it to my collection. Lately I have been trading more and more and buying more and more and now i'm stuck between activating the ones I receive or not activating them. For those of you that have been at this for awhile what do you do? Is there a reason you activate or don't activate? Are there special ones that you activate or special ones that you won't activate for any reason? Thanks for any input
  2. WOW! That is all I can say about my Easter Mission I received. It is truly amazing the generosity everyone in these forums gives on a daily basis. When I received this package the unusual shape made me wonder if it could be one of my Easter Missions. I INSTANTLY tore into the packaging as I just don't have the will-power some of you do in waiting. Once I tore into the mail packaging THIS is what i found: So now i'm REALLY excited and can hardly contain myself before i'm ripping this paper off of what exciting stuff it hides! I received the CUTEST Peter Rabbit pail stuffed with all sorts of candy, goodies, stickers and the cutest tiny little bunny rabbit trinkets! HOW CUTE ARE THEY!?!?! The package was filled with tiny rabbit confetti that my cats enjoyed swatting around the house more so than my dogs did by trying to pick them up. Nicely tucked away hidden in the pail was three tightly wrapped objects. COIN!....I....MUST.....O..P..E..N.. AT.....ONCEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! I received the best coins ever! A Moun10Like, Geojellies 3 and the Canadian Hockey Puck!!! (HOCKEY RULES!!!!!) What a great way to end a very long day of work!!!! Thank you.....THANK YOU to my Easter Bunny!!!!!! 5. Donation made!! Best of luck to you! This is such a great cause!! My grandmother was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia at age 73! For two years she went through various testings and many, many long days at the hospital. In 1996 adult Leukemia (especially her age) alot of the tests were new or still experimental. I am very thankful to be able to give to such a good cause and support a fellow geocacher.

    Missions

I have participated in a couple of missions and have been thinking of hosting one myself. I enjoy receiving "special" packages to see all the goodies inside but more so love giving packages to read the excitement from the person that received it. I have a couple of questions to ask in order to have a successful mission. First, how soon after a mission is appropriate to start another mission? I know we are just finishing up the Easter Mission, St. Patrick's Day Mission. There is the Birthday mission, Sunshine Mission and Hearts Desire Missions (there may be others, these were the ones I remembered off the top of my head). I don't want to host a mission and have a lack of participation because everyone is burnt out or ....I dare say it would ever happen..... but everyone is out of coins to give. Missions are suppose to be special and fun. I'm afraid if we have too many back to back they will lose the interest and less and less people will participate. Second, I am assuming missions do not have to be just holiday oriented but is it ok for them to have a special goal? To make more sense of that, I am the team captain for a local team in the Relay For Life. (For those of you who may not know what that is, it is a fundraiser for the Cancer Society to help find a cure for cancer. Teams raise money up to the day of their Relay For Life which is a 24 hour walk-a-thon. All proceeds go towards the Cancer Society). The idea of my mission is to have everyone sign up by a specific date (if and when I decide to do the mission I would actually post rules, etc just as all other missions have provided) and for every person that joins the mission I would donate $1.00 to the Cancer Society. Because I have friends and loved ones that are fighting the battle or have lost the battle due to cancer, each year I do my part to help in any way that I can. I just don't know if this type of Mission is appropriate and figured I would ask first before I went any further. I will still make my donation to the Cancer Society but thought it would be kinda fun to tie it in with another passion of mine (being geocaching and geocoin collecting). THIS IS IN NO WAY AN ATTEMPT TO SOLICIT MONEY. I am not asking anyone to donate money. I am the only person that will donate money from this mission. If you feel the need to do so I can direct you to the Cancer Society webpage for my event. I just thought it would be neat to host a mission with a purpose that was special to me. I just don't know if this type of mission is appropriate. If anyone has any advice I would certainly welcome it.
  9. I received grayllings 2007 personal coin today.
  10. I loved my mission package from you menace66! I thought you did a great job!!! Not too much, not too little....it was JUST RIGHT!
  11. I too still have wooden nickels for trade with anyone that doesn't already have one. Shoot me a pm with your address and i'll get one out to you. Mine are wood burned and no two are exactly alike. (it's nice to see others of you picking up on the wood burning. Its a neat little way to have your own personal item)
  12. It is definitely unacceptable to sign up for a mission and then not fulfill your obligation! I too am new to missions. I've only participated in three. When I send my packages off I always keep the receipt from the post office until my person has noted they received the package. I guess its just comforting to me to know that if ever questioned, i've got proof that I actually followed through with what I signed up for. Something to consider however, missions are open to everyone in the forums. The missions I have signed up for asked if I was willing to ship outside of the US. I don't have a problem with shipping any where in the world and therefore I realize my package may also come from outside of the US. Unfortunately there may be delays in receiving a package that comes from another country. So to be fair to the sender (and give a little room to the postal system) anything outside of the US may go a bit longer than expected. I know my first mission had me a little nervous because the mission date came and went and I never received anything. Eventually I received an email from my "secret sender" saying it had been mailed, a little late and would get here as soon as possible. We can say we would like to hold the missions coordinator responsible in some sort of way, but honestly the responsibility should be put on the sender. It takes two minutes to send an email to the person you are sending a package to or to the mission coordinator if there are delays or problems with upholding your end of the bargain. If you sign up for a mission and for whatever reason you are unable to fulfill your duties you should at least have the responsibility about yourself to let someone know so they can help you out. If nothing else, send the package you get to the person you are suppose to be sending to. With all of that said perhaps a list with names of people that truly don't fulfill their mission could be shared with coordinators. I'm one that doesn't speculate or assume what could have gone wrong. Things happen, life gets in the way, people forget, whatever the excuse may be. But the missions are suppose to be fun and all it takes is one person to take the fun out of a mission by not sending their package. Just my 2 cents
  13. Yesterday I got the following: 2 Quadrant coins (These coins are absolutely stunning!!!!) Greenman Appalachian Quilt Sextant Earth coin Feng Shui compass World Traveler Gary & Vicky Geopelli Kilted Cacher 11 pins 2 TBs
  14. I wondered the exact same thing! This was my first "personal" coin purchase in mass quantities and therefore I just didn't know if it was right or wrong. I even backed out of the invoice page and re-entered thinking I had clicked on something wrong. Then I noticed the "currency converter" thingy and realized that what I had been invoiced was in CAD.
  15. I'm in! (and like a good girl I did the "WHO ARE YOU")
  16. Great looking coin! I love the Tiki!! I like the symbology too! Hopefully I can grab one of these coins when they hit the market!
  17. So sorry to hear of your loss! I think this type of memorial is a wonderful idea! I'm not in any of the locations you specified but if you want one in North Carolina i'll be happy to drop one for you. (It's not Florida but I95 runs through here and most going to Florida from the North East travel 95 to get to Florida) I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers!
  18. Neat looking idea. I like the puzzle caches, don't always solve some of them right away but I like the challenge.
  19. I LOVE Celtic knots, Celtic art, Celtic music AND the Claddagh design, story and meaning in general. With that said, you definitely have my interest in this type of coin. I can't wait to see the artwork!!
  20. Anyone have an extra Broken W coin laying around? If so, i'd love to trade!
  21. I'm glad you liked it Jackie! umm...one problem though...I FORGOT your Jelly beans!!!! hahaha I realized it yesterday morning when I went to drop off another package that I still had jelly beans. *sigh* I'll have to drop them in the mail to you because Easter just isn't right without Pink and yellow Peeps and jellybeans LOL
  22. Back from the post office and my coins are on the way to you Tsun! Thanks for pulling this together. ATC06 (haha its funny calling you that) sit back, relax and enjoy the generosity of those of us here in the states (and else where) that want to be able to give back even just a little bit in appreciation for all that you are doing for us here at home. Honestly, its truly amazing to see EVERYONE getting involved. This just goes to show that geocaching (and the geocoin addiction) is truly a world wide hobby that brings us all together as one big family no matter where you call home! (wiping away a tear now.. I luv you guys!!)
