  1. Geochaching reality show: Group of six first-time cachers seek a 5/5 cache. Gotta find four totally incompatible and inept city-folks. Two of the group are plants who cause havoc at various points along the journey.
  2. Thanks for the tip! That got it done. I was going through the "Landmarks" menu, not the setup menu. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  3. Having loaded lots of waypoints via computer, there's now too many to deal with and I'd like to get rid of them all and start fresh. I can't seem to find a menu item for wiping out the entire WP memory. Am I missing something? Tell me I don't have to go and delete them one at a time... The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  4. I got there at about 1625h on friday. Don't know what time the coordinates were posted, but i think maybe a dozen or so others beat me to it. Met two groups hiking out as I was hiking in. Lots of kids in tow. So who got there first? Whaddya get? What time were you there? The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  5. Be prepared. Take one or more of these items with you: Dog Whistle or electronic noise-maker Firearm (get a permit) Mace or Pepper Spray (or blend) Keys carried as mentioned above Cell phone (note that it may not work when doing backcountry caches) Another cacher Cane or walking stick (good weapon)
  6. I just mean that, decoding in the field - if you do it enough times - you might start to recognize whole words and then be able to just read the stuff. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  7. Nsgre V qrpbqr rabhtu bs gurz, V guvax Vyy or noyr gb whfg ernq gurz.
  8. Favorite Tick Disposal Methods: Camera-lens Magnfying glass on the hood of my truck - amazing how fast those guys can scurry when they're warm. Crush with a pointy rock. This is the most common. New method: Package carefully and mail to BrianSnat
  9. MountainMudBug - That sounds pretty cool! I went to the hobby shop at lunch today and found the polymer clay. Gotta get some big new erasers and then I'll give it a try. Thanks for the instructions. I'm already dreaming up other uses for this technology. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  10. but what's a "crawgator?" The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  11. I found it... Select "New Search" from the top of your results page. The options mentioned are there. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  12. Check it out HERE. Never worry about leaving your GPS behind again.
  13. ... or is UTM always on its own datum??? I got a fancy new map from my local state park today and was pleased to see UTM grids on the map. Read all of the legend bits and nowhere did it say what map datum they were using. Got to thinking that maybe UTM is always the same and datum is just part of it. Comments? The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  14. Put it down there. I'll give it a try. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  15. I was with the local Sheriff search&rescue team. It was a handy item to keep myself from getting lost. Not long after, the whole team was using them and it soon became a required piece of equipment.
  16. Desert Warrior had it right: BDUs (Battle Dress Uniform?)are a great thing. If you go to your nearby army surplus place you may be able to find some long enough. I could not (6' 9") and sewed extensions on the bottoms of the legs. BDUs are made to be worn with tall boots and have legs which tie around the boot. Good for keeping bugs out. They come in a variety of fabrics. Cotton is the coolest and doesn't snag too badly. Also come in a variety of colors from camo to khaki to black. Backup is plain old blue jeans. great in the stickers
  17. I lost my first GPS (black) in the hills. Though I know it was on the trail somewhere in about a 1/4 mile range, I could not locate it at all. Got another GPS (black) and added lots of day-glo orange tape and white reflector tape dots to it. I'd not buy a camo model. I think it's good that they finally came out with a yellow one. 18. Snickers bars and Pepsi all the way. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  19. quote: Hey, I just learned how to quote, too! Thanks for starting this interesting thread!! Is this how it's done? The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  20. HEADING is the direction that you're heading at the time... your direction of travel relative to either true or magnetic north. BEARING is the direction that you would travel a straight line to your intended waypoint. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  21. I do fine in the outdoors, but i'll get lost quickly in a large building.
  22. a cooler of beer on ice hidden deep in the forest GPS coordinates to a trailhead Flour Marks leading to a Big Circle-G with the beer hidden nearby. Count me in. Who's buying?
  23. Found our first disposable camera in a cache yesterday. As luck would have it, we took a photo and then realized it was the last on the roll. What is the appropriate thing to do with spent cameras? We didn't know, so left it there and emailing the cache owner. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
